:-(... just how many thread can there be on how many boads?....big problem though...no solution yet. Very depressing! There actually probably needs to be more for EA to take notice. ATM some things work for different people, as they say. But there is no defimnate cure!! I've had enoggh. When I bought BF2 they told me it was a funny game. It really is 'unfinished' JUNK!

Did anyone figure out whats causing this or how to stop it?

I bought BF2 last week and its been happening constantly. It seems to happen to me around 3/4pm and 2/3am GMT. I join the server and about 30 seconds later it loses connection again.

The problem is the netcode in the game. There is no fix or anything. I gave up my cable internet connection and went with ADSL and i have been getting less connection lost errors. lets hope that this issue will be brought up to be fixed in the 1.13 patch

I have a similar problem. I can join a game, but about 30 seconds later I get a B-I-G ass lag and disconnect from the server. I play fine on my friend's ADSL connection(1.2 Mbps/314Mbps)but I cant play on my (386/386). It really ticks me off.

After i did my switich from cable internet to ADSL (6.0/768) i am really impresse and i have a lot less lag and better performance.

I doubt this will help many people at all but I was having the whole 'There is a problem with your connection' followed by 'Your connection to the server has been lost' error messages but since I took a load of music off my PC I haven't had one problem since.

My PC had been packed with music, about 60gigs of mp3s but I bought an external hard drive to stick them all onto and once I did I haven't had one connection problem since.

Specs: P4, 3.0, 1gig drram, radeon 9800 pro 128mb with 5.11 Cat drivers, 125gb HD, 1mb broadband adsl connection.

Also try turning off the EAX and VOIP options in the sound menu if you can, it didn't solve it for me for a long time but I managed to play fine for a week before the problem came back. Although I've heard disabling these can fix it outright.

I don't think there is a definative answer for this problem yet and I doubt there will be but keep at it, my answer was to delete/move a load of mp3s from my PC to free up space and it worked great. Of course theres people with nothing on their hard drives that still have probs, hope this helped in some tiny way. Good luck.

actually what i have found that fixed a constant connection loss is windows xp does not like dual core CPU's. from the looks of it most of you have either dual core or hyperthreaded CPUs and it causes a connection loss. there is a fix that you can edit into the registry or set the affinity for the game to use only one CPU( has to be done each time game is started). the registry fix is this:

1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.2.Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager, point to New, and then click Key.3.Type Throttle for the new key name.4.Right-click Throttle, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.5.Type PerfEnablePackageIdle for the value name.6.Right-click PerfEnablePackageIdle, and then click Modify.7.In the Value data box, type 0. Make sure that Hexadecimal is selected in the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, and then click OK.

Note You can type 1 in the Value data box to enable the new performance state policy behavior.8.Quit Registry Editor.


that worked fine for me and now i dont get any connection loss unless the network drops or server crashes. i was getting them even on a local server 2 feet from my desk with a gigabit connection but now it's fine. this should fix quite a few problems with other games also.

Hi all just to let anyone with an X2 know if you are getting constant dissconets from BF2 servers or poor performance it is down to BF2 and your X2 if you are getting the disconections you need to run BF2 and while it is running open Task Manager then find BF2 in the processes list right click it and go to set affinity then un-tick CPU 1 this makes the game run just from CPU 0 which will solve the problem BF2 cant run from both cores running from one core hasent had any effect on my game performance and also i found this which might also be usefull to people having performance issues in all games not just BF2 have a look at this very interesting o i forgot you will have to do the affinity everytime you run BF2 as it resets its self there in a post in this forum somewhere on how to fix it to always run from CPU 0 but i cant find it lol

Also if you are getting disconnected it could be PB you should download the PbSetup.exe from the link below put it in a folder on you desktop brows to your BF2 folder and delete every thing in your PB folder then run the Pbsetup.exe you downloaded click add game select BF2 then click update it will re-install PB and update it for you

This is a confirmed fix for some X2/multi-core cpu owners. However a better solution is discussed here. Read down the post and use the "prioaff" fix.

The fix HERE as posted by myself and others uses a program to launch BF2 for you and set the affinity automatically. There is no manual setting each time you play. You just make a new shortcut.

It can even be used in conjunction with ASE (etc).

I'm assuming it's something you don't know about. Disabling both cores manually in registry is a bit of pain in the backside.

that registry fix doesnt disable either of the cores. what it does is fix the way windows handles dual cpu's with performance monitors. here is the reason from microsoft's page:

"Because Windows XP was not originally designed to support performance states on multiprocessor configurations, changes are required to correctly realize this support on multiprocessor systems. Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes the required changes to the kernel power manager. These changes make sure that Windows XP correctly functions on multiprocessor systems with processor performance states.

This hotfix also addresses the following issues on computers that have multiple processors that support processor performance states: •A possible decrease in performance on single-threaded workloads when processor performance states are using demand-based switching.•The synchronization of the processor Time Stamp Counter (TSC) registers across processors when you use the ACPI Power Management timer on multiprocessor systems. •ACPI C-state promotion and demotion issues in the kernel power manager."



that is why the registry fix works. has nothing to do with turning on or off a core to play. the reason setting affinity works is that it turns off the performance monitor for that program on that core or cpu. i never said the disabling one core doesnt work but seems to me that fixing the underlying issue is a better way than a bandaid fix. either way works but why have to go through the trouble of making new shortcuts if you can make one fix and be done with it. may even get better performance with it also.

To clarify, you DO NOT want to add the PerfEnablePackageIdle=0 registry param after applying the hotfix. Doing so causes the updated kernel to behave exactly as it did before the hotfix.

You would only consider PerfEnablePackageIdle=0 if you are concerned about the increased power usage of the CPU due to the update performance state management (eg. on a laptop).
