Thanx for your very comprehensive reply. It gave me something to try and get going with.
Well this didnt work either Im sad to say, nor did the affinity trick. I uninstalled ZA and switched to Win's FW to vain. I really have no clue what is wrong here. The computer freezes as soon as, or shortly after, I join an online map. Playing offline works perfectly fine with no probs whatsoever All I can do is wait for patch 1.2 and pray and hope that it solves it :hmm:

Try a different AntiVirus? I recommend Kaspersky. Is your DirectX and WindowsXP is updated? Hmmm tbh I'm running out of ideas, best of luck -pls keep us updated.

I have tried almost everything to get this solved and re-installed the game I dont know how many times. I use latest patch 1.12 and PB, my drivers are the latest and like I said, it works perfectly fine OFFline.
        Computerspecs are :

        AMD 64 x 2 Dual Core 4800+
        Nvidia GT7800GTX
        2GB RAM
        2x160GB Seagate Barracuda drives
        4Mb/768K ADSL

Could somebody PLEASE have a clue what could be wrong here. All other online games work fine, such as UT2K4 and EQ2. There are no problems at all with those.
I have tried turning my ZA free edition FW off to no vain and also NC AV as well to no vain. It must be some online related thing that cr*ps things up, and Im quite sure its within the game itself :hmm:
both of you should try the patch and reg fix i posted since it seems to work great with AMD dual cores

it's happening to me AGAIN.. I noticed that Punkbuster ahd 2 releases in the last couple of days and have updated to the latest (1.22xx or whatever). Last time Punkbuster had a release (~ month ago) I had the constant connection lost, I updated, everything was fine. Maybe it takes a few days to trickle down through the gmae servers so we are getting bumped becuase of a version mismatch??

Just started getting 'connection lost' for ANY server I connect to - this started since the PB 'patch'.

                    Re: Constant Connection Loss

This has become totally ridiculous. My computer was fine for months. All it has on it is XP Pro and a couple games. It was fine for months, but after SF and that patch and then PB updates, I can't stay connected for more than 5 minutes most the time. Some days I'm sort of ok, but yesterday it was every 5 minutes ... sometimes sooner.

My roomie has his computer hooked to the same connection and is not having the same problem. I don't believe he has updated punkbuster at all.

What the hell is going on with this. I've read all the supposed "fixes", but they only work for some and not others and I don't think they are the ultimate solution anyhow. With the numbers of people that are experiencing this (and it is becoming more and more common as the game ages) it leads me to believe that it is a software/coding problem that really needs to be addressed.

I'm about ready to throw the game in the garbage and find something else to play. Everything else runs fine, so I don't spend the time I could be playing banging my head on the keyboard.

                      Re: Constant Connection Loss

                      OK ..... update.

I changed two things and haven't had connection problems since. This leads me to believe that it was one of these things I changed OR my ISP has just been having some hiccups and the netcode for the game doesn't like that.

As for changes, I checked under device manager and looked at my network card. I went to power management and unchecked "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" While it is being used it shouldn't ever be powered down, so I don't think this was the issue, but I unchecked it anyhow.

Second, some people mentioned screen resolution. I do not believe that is the problem, but try setting your refresh rates to the same setting. My desktop was at 60hz and the game was at 75hz. I set them both at 75hz. Again, I highly doubt this could cause the issue, but who knows.

Like I said, I'm thinking my ISP was just misbehaving, but try the couple suggestions above and see if anything happens.

                        Re: Constant Connection Loss

If your roomie was on the same connection... then I doubt it's something your ISP has changed. Possibly it has something to do with your network adapter power management...?

Screen refresh rate though? That's a new fix to me; do you mind telling me where you read about that?

                        Thx!

                          Re: Constant Connection Loss

I didn't read about the refresh rate anywhere. People mentioned resolution settings which I know don't matter, but I was just cross checking things and checking out all the settings on my system to see if there was anything that could be causing the problem.

That was just one thing that I noticed, so I decided to set the refresh rate to the same thing. Again, I highly doubt this should make any difference at all, but I was in trial and error mode trying to figure out what the deal was.

My roomie hasn't been on most of the time when I'm having problems, but he plays other times when I don't and he hadn't mentioned any issues. That's why I was ruling out the ISP. You never know though.

Hi, this is looking like a nForce4 problem.
I have tried everything in this thread.
The only thing that helped me play for 2 to 3 hours until I got connection problems was to use the nVidia 6.65 chipset drivers.
I suggest going to your motherboard and nVidia forums and search for BF2 connection problems.
Post in these forums and make some noise so that this problem gets fixed.

I'm slightly amused at some of the more bizarre solutions ppl are touting.

                              - Make sure your desktop resolution is the same as your game res. What? (lay off the smoke, dude)
                              - Make sure you are running BF2.exe on only one CPU. What?? (yeah, cos its soooo multi-threaded NOT)
                              - Re-install BF2 from scratch (oh, sure, the installation was screwed up magically, not)
                              - Power cycle your router (erm, not having issues with any other game, so why?)
                              - update PB
                              - jump up and down and scream "EA are a bunch of f%ckers" (oh, i just made that up)

I'm not buying ANY OF IT.

                              But well done for trying.

Nup, this is pure and simply an issue EA is having with its netcode imho.

When the internet is busy, it seems, this game becomes unstable online.

Some ppl claim to have found solutions but i reckon they're testing them when internet traffic is down and the issue isn't as bad.

We dont have connection issues with any other games, it simply has to be EA's netcode.

I hope they are looking into it.

                                EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

I have been fighting to get on the net since I got the game for xmas. BF2 worked perfectly OFFline, but my pc froze up when entering an ONline map in BF2. My NW connections have been working perfectly with other games such as UT2K4 and EQ2, such has browsing and email without ANY problems. Trying to get BF2 ONline, I have been experimenting with AW on/off, FW on/off, graphic, sound driver updates, patches and numorous re-installs of the game. Even bought an brand new copy of BF2 as another desperate action coz it might have been my CD that was fckd up

Im using a Giagabyte GA-K8N Ultra SLI mobo with an Nvidia chipset and as a last desperate attempt to get this game working, I DL'ed and installed the mobo drivers I found on the Gigabyte website which included some networking stuff amongst other things, AND.........

THE GAME WORKS ONline now and havent had a single freeze up in the whole week I have been playing online. Had two crashes to desktop, but wtf...I have been playing online a whole week since this fix I have intensely been fighting for almost 3 months without being able to play online ONE single time !!

THIS was the solution, and the ONLY solution. Update ur mobo drivers and install them ! THEN ur ready to go soldier !!

Omg was this a relief to get this fixed !!

                                Update ur mobo driver !!!!
