I don't like ramming the BH's my-self, but it has happened a few times. Usually when I am flying along; just finnished dive bombing a base; pulling up, and there's a BH right infront of me. I have noticed that if you fire missiles at a BH's side they will almost always miss, so I have taken a liking to firing straight at the front or the back. It's still not a guaranteed kill though. I spent almost an entire round on Fushe Pass to practice it, and ended up taking out 5 Black Hawks during the round, and a bunch of annoying F-18's.

Its simple. They are in a heli, you dont want them to be. So you go kamikazi on their ass.

RAM that FAT BIRD. The 6 Kills you get instantly validates the sacrifice of your jet for a few seconds while depriving enemy team of quick spawn taking or other really nasty game winning abilities.

You can be respawned and taking off again while the 6 or 7 that just died are still waiting on the Bhawk on thier side... or better yet... fighting with each other and saying "Pilot you suck!" and refuse to fly the BHawk anymore.

Then you have won control of the sky because the opponets will not use the Bhawks again. Especially after several rammings.

I have perfected ramming tatics. No more wasting time seeing my missiles team kill fellow team's helis, jets with extrodinary precision.

RAM EM and to hell with what others think. Get your 6 kills... or was it 7 total.

Ramming consists of flying your jet into the hawk from any angle with the impact zone just below your cockpit along your belly. Make sure your jet's belly hits hard so you get the kills. Any other position will result in a death without credit to you still depriving the enemy of the Hawk... and sometimes creating a massive teamkill situation on the enemy side.

Having said this, I find it best to hang out where they load em and fire two missiles just as they are taking off. The flares they fire simply drops into the land or carrier and does not save them at all.

Also.. if you must engage a BHawk present your Enemy Helicopter in a position that is face down showing the tops of the rotors from above before you fire missiles. Apparently the computer generated rotors mask the Hawk's flares from your inbound missiles.

In a sense us peeps create our own gaming environment. As much cheesy arcade action there is in BF2, I like to think of this game as quasi-realistic. When I play I try to use real tactics from the real world. Ramming is just silly because its never used in any real armed conflict.
Tell that to the dozens of Destroyer Skippers in the previous wars who attempt to ram a sub caught on the surface.

Dude, c'mon. You're talking about SUBMARINES now - not aircraft. What kind of comparison is that? The thread is about AIR TO AIR ramming which does not exist in armed conflict as we know it.

              C'mon.

                Nice HTML tags there BTW.

For the purists, its all about some level of realism.

I mean, why did DICE go through all the trouble to implement thier ELABORATE WEAPON DAMAGE matrix & realistic weapons systems if they werent trying to create some kind of quasi-realistic combat environment?

why do people have so much trouble with the BlackHawk/SeaHawk?

If people will work together, it can be taken down in no time.

but if a jet wants you down u can survive.. just get your chopper 45° left or right and the missiles miss mostly.
and if u hover just make circles..

Yes it is about Air to AIR combat on this thread. The qouted poster was stating that specifically:

People dont RAM in real life warfare.

I used submarine vs Destroyers as a example.

I believe I can uncover examples where Air to air pilots have rammed each other in combat in real life.

For example.. the Corsair Propeller was extremly strong and was rumored to be used to actually chop off control surfaces on a tail of a Japanese Zero.

The subject bears more indepth research does it not?

It is a game. Ultimately ramming the jet into the Bhawk on BF2 is a expression of my desire to see that FAT BIRD eliminated from the map... and a expression of how CRAPPY the missiles are. PERIOD.

I think it's perfectly realistic, the Japanese did it in WW2, just into ships instead. I guess it's not realistic now because no one would want to wreck a $1 million aircraft for a few kills. But hey, the economy in BF2 is different, jets and helis respawn for free only a minute after they've been destroyed. Dice should have thought about that before hand.

its on the lame side but it's legit....

i noticed that sometimes missiles will pass straight through a helo even after you have had a nice leisurely straight level approach... and the gun seems very under powered....

$1 million aircraft? Try $57 million for the likes of an F18-E and god knows what for the new Chinese J-10.

Ok, it's a cheap tactic and undoubtedly one of desperation in real life, but people are getting desperate at the Blackhawk situation. We all know the Blackhawk can be a real whore on most maps, capturing flags and wiping out people like a plague, and on maps with no jets it's practically invulnerable and can win a round by itself. A squad gets inside, spawn inside on their leader and self repair whilst capturing flags all the way. Unless about 5 people hit it with anti-tank weapons and machine guns at the exact same time their's no way to take it down. Ramming is a cheap, effective way to stop the carage until such times as the Blackhawk is made more balanced.

Once the Blackhawk is weakened or prevented from capturing flags from the air we will then need to stop the ramming tactic, and it'll probably take something like denying all kills gained that way. If we make the Blackhawk more balanced but leave ramming unpunished we'll have yet another balance problem on our hands.

Bah... just use the 50cals on the jeeps/tanks and in like 5 to 10 seconds you can drop a blackhawk... And as for ramming, don't use missles, use the cannons on the jets...

(Altho, sometimes, when you're in a jet and you're dumping ammo into it and it turns and breaks to get outta the way, sometimes it's hard to avoid hitting it. Mid-Air collisions happen.)

Yeah right.. slow down huh?? Slowing down an airplane is a tough stuff.

By the time you know a Bh is there there is no way you have time to slow down your airplane and kill it with your cannons. Dont be silly ffs.
