I'm hoping to update the guide after this week. This week was hell for me: SATs, and two major project presentations.

Re: Guide to the Commander Mode (Basic)

Although I too practice such method as commander, I created this guide so new players can learn the raw aspects and features of the commander mode; Not tactics or tricks as commander as I believe such articles are not necessary to be proficient as commander. This guide was written in a way that readers only needed to throughly read once to be a savvy commander in-game, or at least the basic aspects of it. I could name a several tricks a commander could pull off (legally) such as the supply-crate kill, "earning" class-based awards, supply crate + artillery combo, and several others, but that wasn't my goal.

As I say again, I wanted this guide to let new players, or players new to commander mode understand how it works. How they play as commander is up to them or another guide in this forum.

However, I might add such section once 1.30 patch arrives with the ability to drop transports, enough for me to update this walkthrough again.

    Awsome guide man,

But i have something to add...

The Expert Ground Defence, Air Defence badges are one of the least common badges earned, so if you are a commander jump in one of these vehicles and knock off those badges!

I see some people who have spent 200+ hrs as commander and i think to myself, gee if they spent 60hrs of those hrs on ground defence and 100 on air defence they would have both of them expert... so when it is time they came around to Colonel they would be going "Oh crap 60hrs on ground defence! ".

I have also seen some smart commanders on maps with an aircraft carrier and boats, just camp in them! They respwn automatically (only on 64 player maps) and then you can knock off Expert Transport badge!

Wouldn't YOU Like to see this after 310hrs as commander ?

PLEASE NOTE: It is not very smart to camp in a helicopter, airplane, tank/apc or ground transportation because your team members will need those vehicles to exicute your orders effectivley!

    Happy commandering

    comamber

I also noticed that this thread is the most viewed out of the entire forum (I think), that's got to have some w00t points ^_^

As for the commander based awards, I really don't have any explanation than to say maybe you didn't achieve the requirements despite your beliefs and memory. I haven't read or heard any bugs on awards yet either so I guess you really didn't earn the required points.
Thanks for the guide BirdKiller! I have been enjoying commander mode recently with the help of your guide.

    From the above instructional:

To accept the request, right-click the map and two choices, Accept and Decline, will appear. It's highly recommended that you accept requests as it helps your team and you get +1 in your commander score.

First part is correct, second isn't. There are no actions the CO can take that directly result in commander points.

    1) Did you command the entire round?

    2) Were the point totals before any 2X winning commander bonus?

I ask these questions because on 1) if you commanded the entire round, all your points would be command points. If you played a normal role in the game part of the time and commander part of the time, your total score would be round score while playing whatever kit (total of combat points and team points) PLUS commander score. So if you got 20 points while playing the game normally and 20 points while CO, your total game score would be 40 if you lost (20+20) with only the latter 20 applying to the CO badge requirement.

On 2) If you won, your score would be 60 (20 + (20*2)). Again, from a badge perspective, you only had 20 points...the 2X does not count.

No, randomly killing enemies with artilley is not the best method. The best and moral method is simply making sure you support your team with supplies, UAVs, scans, and artillery if necessary.
