    Re: Weapons in the game

Id like to see the drop system again. Like supply drops or a vehicle drop. Or an artillery drop.... xD
But for example instead of spawning outa noweree i think it should be some sort of scripted plane or helicopter that passes and drops the thing.

And i think i have a solution for the scripted plane/helicopter not to crash against frendly jets/helis.
For example every time a drop was marked, the friendly people in choppers and jets would get the regular message of " drop in your sector" ifthey were near it, but they would see something on their hud that others wouldnt, and that would be a simbol around the scripted plane/heli showing were it was for them to be caureful not to hit it. I Personally think that its hard for you to hit another plane/heli if you are not doing it on purpose.

For the other team they would not get any message but if they managed to spot that heli/plane they could take it out if they wanted to prevent the other team from getting any supply

I like the idea. However, the helicopter would still spawn out of nowhere to come in and drop off supplies or a vehicle. There should be a fenced off area at the base then for it to take off from. The helicopter would need to be a CH53E for the USMC. It would also need some type of defense that is AI controlled for it's protection against SAMs and small-arms fire.

The supply drops would have to be really useful to be worth going to all the trouble of securing an LZ though.

As for the weapons I hope they remove the XM8 prototype!
Why? I know it's not a "real" weapon anymore and nobody uses it, but it's still cool looking and the right balance between futuristic and modern without looking corny.

Why I don't like it? For the same reason I don't want US soldiers running with PKM and AK and russians soldiers with M16 and Garand, it breaks immersion. It's just a minor point though and I could perfectly live with BF3 having some prototypes and WW2 weapons, in the hands of every factions.

I think it would be nice to have factions with different weapons. That's what made BF2 so fun. You could have a favorite faction because they had their own weapons, which made them unique. Notice nobody gives a crap what team they're on in Call of Duty?

Counterpoint not meant to start a flame war:

Picture this - BFBC2 releases with traditional unlocks, or just weapons depending on faction; USarmy ends up with either the G3 or the M60 for the medics; doesn't matter what the other classes get; it would had been lopsided towards USarmy no contest. Russian would have gotten what; the PKM? the RPK? They wouldn't get the G36 at any rate; Russian faction gets mowed down left and right.

Now for the people who like guns but don't particularly care about accuracy (since this is not a combat simulator of real factions) this current method of unlocks lets you choose a weapon you are comfortable with and that suits your playstyle. It doesn't make any sense but it's more fun this way and adds another layer to the strategy and tactics since you can't be too sure what the other side is using until they start getting kills.

Balance is a very complicated issue.

I think not giving a crap is a good thing.
It is very frustrating to see half of the opposing players drop out when its time for switching sides.
Or how about one side always being outnumbered because the other side has the Über-weapon of the month?

You know it will happen, we have seen that kind of behavior often enough.

                  Re: Weapons in the game

That's why I proposed same weapons stats but different skins (PKM=M60 stats for ex). I don't remember what game exactly but in one game people found a weapon op over its counterpart but the fact it was the exact same stats (it wasn't due to the different model like iron sight for ex, just sound and feel). So different sounds/model for the same stats can be enough difference.

Unless the guys at Dice does a good job at balancing.

Nah, different teams would be forced to adopt different fighting techniques. That would be epic. We don't need identical weapon stats with different guns à la Battlefield Heroes.

Then you can dream, because Dice will never revert to balancing like that, too many complaints from BF2/2142 (AK101 vs M16, Scar vs Krylov) and almost none from BC2. The only asymetric thing between factions will be available vehicles depending of the map, like all BF.

I thought the AK101 vs. M16 balance was perfect. Sure I enjoyed the 101 more, but I still like the M16 and you had to play a little different with each weapon.

Yes it was fine but you heard many complaints especially in the beginning. As for the Scar/Krylov it's after the 1.4 something patch they buffed the Scar, every one wanted the Krylov, but the balance wasn't that broken I did fine with the Scar (but the Krylov was indeed superior). I'm quite sure they did allow every factions to use everything in BC2 because of those complaints and it spares them the balancing problem, at least they can take their time, if no one use the F2000 for 2-3 patchs it's not a big problem.

For PC, BC2 on release was just about perfect on weapons. PC players just wanted a few little buffs on a couple weapons. Instead, DICE changed all kinds of things like 3 different times, almost making the weapons perfect from release.

Its possible that DICE will make the weapons great on release, then the bad stuff will happen.

The M60 was way overpowered in BC2 haha, that thing was like cheat mode.

The M16 was never the same after they nerfed it....

Only after a lot of people started unlocking and using the perks and scopes; red dot+stabilizer=total ownage; before then DICE couldn't have anticipated that on PC th eM60 would overpowered all th eother weapons so much. (it wasn't an issue on console because everybody has autoaim and you don't actually need to center the guns on your target)
Also consoles have less recoil and deviation for some reason, and all weapons do double damage from their PC counterpart; so everything was very well balanced.

Aiming with mouse introduced "problems" that couldn't be feasible anticipated. Out of the package the G3 blows, the type 88 is kind of pointless; on consoles the locked on 3 shot burst AR suck but are godlike on PC.

And the problem with asimetric warfare is just that; it's asimetric; you can't balance that out anyways. It's already been mentioned with a recent game like 2142; arguably the SCAR11 and the Krylov were "the same" but objectively the Krylov is a better assault rifle only surpassed by the Voss; and you would see it, the Voss wasn't locked to any faction and both sides would abuse it to no end with the odd person here and there choosing the BAUR just so they wouldn't be accused of going with the flavor of the year weapon.

Back on BF2 it was the PKM that was more powerful regarding LMG; and you would see USMC killing MEC to pick it up since it was a 200 clip sniper rifle, the SAW was nowhere near and after a couple of months maps featuring the chinese wouldn't get play anyways and all of their weapons blew too.

The Krylov was better since it had less deviation and you could run and gun more effectively even tough you could too with the SCAR wich was more accurate when ADS was used; but both paled in comparison with the Voss in both aspects even if the Voss needed more bullets to kill an anemey; with its rof so high, you got kills faster anyways. The BAUR got patched so it had less deviation, but they also reduced the bullets in the clips, so you did more damage but you ran out of ammo real fast and couldn't keep up. if they had kept the original 30 round clip, then it would had been a viable alternative to the Voss as it would still need careful aiming and you couldn't run and gun with it.

The only objectively reasonable solution is to give everybody the same weapon loadout like in BC2; so maybe instead of forcing people to a specific weapon, make every weapon more "realistic" in its handling?

Other solution would be giving each faction the same number of weapons to unlock; and make them equivalent to the other faction; so an M16 for an AK74? exact same stats but you could also choose the M4 and AK94; I fail to see how more options are bad.
