I wouldnt mind that solution, and I suspect that we will actually get something like it in BF3. But a lot of people are going to whine and call it a skill-less weapon because of the lock-on.
It's a bit different than say a javelin. The stingers I played with in bf2 when you had it out you showed up to the jets. The jets usually have to come to you unless you camp them at the main, and camping aircraft really needs to be prevented. One of the best ways to help balance aircraft for ground pounders is to make sure aircraft can't be camped.

You aren't going to get 30 kills with a handheld stinger. Like you could with a javelin on some maps and on other maps the tank would never even have a chance to enter the game. Getting in a tank and driving across a large map for 3 minutes to be killed by a skilless javelin only to respawn and repeat would be insane. Getting in the only tank for your team to get killed by a javelin instantly would be retarded.

It's not hard to make stingers practically useless against ground vehicles and infantry; they did it in bf2. The stinger kits did become a little overpowered flack cannons were put in and those ended up being infantry rapers so you have to make sure something like that can't be pointed at infantry. The lockon stinger kits were replaces with dummy fired but they were extremely quick and effective if you got it down. They were 1 hit kills and were given to the assault class which I believe was a good choice.

Showed up to jets? Thats a no-no.
And I dont see why Jets should get any special camp protection. They are just another vehicle.
If the implication is that a lost jet means a lost game, then there are serious balance issues.

The style they had in Desert Combat, there wasn't a lock on but instead a fast missile and proximity detonation. Hard as hell but deadly if you could master it.

Well, in principle it seems like a good idea, making the weapon require skill.
But that kind of fast moving weapon against a fast moving vehicle will be really vulnerable to lag and bad hit detection.
Something that DICE has aways be kind enough to provide in ample quantities.

Of course they showed up to jets. You could take it out and shoot and put it right back up. When you had it out you had the same marker as if you were sitting in a stinger site.

You are really really out there when it comes to balancing things man. They aren't just another vehicle. Lets list the differences shall we? They FLY, they are FASTER, they have bombs, they fly, they fly fast and did I mention they don't travel on the ground?

Base rape kills BF2 gaming end of story. It doesn't matter if its jets or infantry only. The quickest way to ruin a game is base rape. It doesn't matter how powerful or crappy the jets and helicopters are. Camping them is retarded. When I first started playing BF2 I didn't understand that. I was thinking like it was war and you don't make rules in war about attacking bases and you shouldn't have to make rules in a game. But no base raping is vital to keep a server going unless the server is IO and most of the people are addicted to nade spam.

Anyone who has any kind of common sense should be able to see that base raping is a server killer. Then you add the fact that when jets are able to get in the air it makes the game fun for everyone compared to when one side has no jets.

I'm no jet pilot but I'm smart enough to realize that nerfing the jet to **** is retarded.

                .
And that is quite frankly why they need to be nerfed. The outcome of a 32/64 player game should not depend on losing two jets to the enemy. They should just be another vehicle, otherwise the rest of the players are nothing but guests in a flightsim.

By all means let them be the bane of armour and have great dogfights. But then there must be something they fear as much as Tanks fear them. And to limit the versatility, I think they should have limited use against infantry. That would fit nicely within the rock-paper-scissors model.

They were completly missing from BF2142, no harm done.

yeah, I thought bf2142 was **** and much of the bf2 community was right there with me. I bought the game and I might have put 10 hours into it. Jets were completely missing from Madden 2010 also, no harm done.

Can I see your BF2 stats?

You give absolutely no reason as to why base raping shouldn't be allowed.

You keep comparing **** to each other like it's similar when they are more different than apples and oranges.

                    Sure:

Compare to Bf2142, which I put three times as many hours into.

wtf man, you've never even really played bf2 which I could totally tell by your comments.

You got 70 total hours and 60 of them are lone wolf. Stop making suggestions I see why you have no clue what you are talking about now.

There are so many games out there if you don't like BF2 go choose another one.

                          I didn't even look at vreki's. I don't see any reason to bring up 2142 in a BF3 thread.

They'll probably make a 2143 after BF3 is released and you'll be able to make all the suggestions you want vreki.

Add decent AA like in PoE2 (in direct fire of a ZSU-23 a jet last 2 sec), add portable Stinger like PoE2/2142, peharps the jet need to land to rearm, you're done.

Vehicles should be just as protected as spawning in. They constantly try to make improvements on spawning in and they need to put just as much effort into vehicle spawns in main bases.

Landing jets is pointless unless they are also protected from enemy fire. The jet would never make it back into the air.

                              This is what would happen.

At the top of the screen you'd see PLAYER1 JET BOMBS PLAYER2 and PLAYER3 JET sees that PLAYER2 needs to rearm and strafes his runway.

It would be more practical to ram the jet into someone and let it respawn. If they make ramming cause no damage (which they wont) it would be more practical to just suicide and let the jet respawn. Or bail out and let someone else get the jet.

70 hours is an hour a day for two months, I think that is enough to get to know a game.
But fair enough, how about you then compare say a BF2 Tank and a Jet and tell me how they have equal strengths?
