There's nothing a single person could do when the rest is justifying every action of a developer and allowing PC gaming to die.

Also, how about you leave the blatant insults out of this?

Taking some grief from less than 1% of the already tiny PC market is more than worth it to protect the secrets and technology behind their engine and Destruction 3.0.

At best you should expect a Map maker.
Mod tools aren't the same as source files. Also, if anyone tried to use it to release a purchasable game, they'd be sued by EA.

Even if other developers looked at as much as they could of this "far-superior engine", what so bad would come of it? The games being released are of higher quality? It's not like DICE hasn't already made a lot from the sale of BC, BC2, and BC2:Vietnam. They're going to make even more from BF3. They've already made a lot of money from this engine. Other companies studying whatever is released as part of the mod tools to improve their games would not hurt DICE's bottom line unless DICE started creating low quality games.

        edit:

look, dice couldn't even be bothered to spend time/resource on 1943 PC port. 2142 patch took over 2 years. they are not going to spend time on making mod tools, it's just not a worthwhile spending of their time/resource. even if they developed it and sold it, it wouldn't have been a worthwhile endeavor.

Re: Mod tools not looking so good.

Mods really extend the gameplay of a game which wore itself out. When BF3 comes out I think we won't need mods for a few months anyway as we will still be very entertained with what we have. I'm sure for some, they probably won't be playing anything but 24/7 Karkand.

After..let's say a few months maybe some people will want something new. Now i'm sure by then someone will have looked over the code enough times to understand how to make modifications, once they understand how they packed it and do everything in-reverse and then use..idk 3rd party software to do what they have to, or custom ones designed for it.

I don't know much about modding, but what comes to mind is the total war series. They were able to mod it(Empire/Napoleon) without any tools, so anything is possible when it comes to computers nothing is un-moddable it just takes time.

You don't deserve a damn thing from DICE. They making the freaking game, they get to do whatever you want with it. They aren't bloody well required to make the game for you; you aren't entitled to another BF3 game. If they don't choose to make mod tools which are of no advantage, and perhaps a disadvantage to them, that's their choice and you can whine about it all they want, but they're not going to throw away good money on account of the thoughts of a small minority of modders.
Ever heard of regular customers? Loyal customer base? Fanbase ( = hype = more guaranteed sales and more promotion)? Battlefield franchise was built around those. Or how about competitive gaming? Talent grabbed from the ranks of modders?

The only reason you get poor ports with no longetivity, no options and no learning curve (thats BF2142 included, by the way, as it was the first step), is so you would buy DLC-s and youd be ready for that sequel after sinking 50 hours into the game.

Its perfectly fine and acceptable to me if you fall into the category of whining kids who would rather *****, moan and complain about certain aspects of the game, rather than to adapt or come up with suggestions and solutions (maybe even simple ideas) which would NOT involve the word "nerf". Ive eaten "your kind" for lunch in every game. From soccer to BF2 to poker. But considering something happened during the past 6 years which made your population explode, those of us who used to treat games like a fun challenge, something which made us use at least some parts of our brains are now getting screwed.

Its not like you couldnt sell 10M units of BF3 by making it an actually good game. Its pure business. Instead of defending DICE simply because you just passed your eco course and it somehow feels right to defend someone who wants to make more money, you should put aside that "textbook" ******** and think about whats happening to your hobby (if you consider gaming as one).

And whats that with the "Commie" BS? Are you a Republican?

Feels nice to be back. Doesnt feel too nice to see people who have forgotten what games were about. If I handed you any NES game right now, I wouldnt even imagine how much complaining I would get.

I certainly do miss that learning curve. It took me forever to be able to play competently CS at all... BF2 I never had much trouble with, but I was always a ground pounder. So I don't have much to say about the vehicles learning curve.
