So what about the map editor?

Help me out guys, why cant the community make a map editor?

The community can make a secondary IWnet for MW2, make a 128 person BF2, and make all these other great things, but cannot make a map editor?

You really think anyone is going to make something as complex and time consuming as a map editor and a map compiler for free?

        You're just being willingly thick.

Im making a point. No, I dont. Yet because a game is purchased they should be included, for free, by the devs, who also say its complex and difficult, yet is not believed?

Thank you for answering though, I figured no one was going to touch the question. +rep.

Well it really isn't that much of a hassle for them to release the map editor and compiler, which is the only thing really needed for modding in general. The community can easily learn it and create tutorials for it.

Scripts are usually obtainable one way or another. Modeling is only a matter of converting it to the right format, same with skinning. Mapping is the only one that needs software specific to the engine.

Re: Mod tools not looking so good.

I dont doubt that one bit. The community can make some awesome stuff. I also think that mod tools are partially left out because of DLC.

I would think that as well for this, except its on the frostbite engine. I know DICE could be using an excuse to say that its hard and its not, but after finding all those slideshows and other web based information about it, I think frostbite is so complex and hard, that it would take a DICE team to make mod tools and months and a HUGE learning curve for the community to use them.

Maybe I am naive about that, but with what I know so far, I dont think I am.

Theres no excuse for CoD not to have mod tools. Frostbite, there is.

Judging by how maps seem to be in BC2, the way maps are made don't seem so different from how they were in BF2.

And you are right about DLC being a reason. Who on PC would ever buy maps when you could just get equally good maps from the community for free?

And there is no denying that there were good maps because some were added in BF2/142 patches.

Im sure a lot more were junk though. I dont mean the good ones in the mods that have been around forever, but Im we've all seen them.

Seriously guys in the future nothing will be free, this is just another step forward in the evolution of monopoly and to premote mods will step on their DLC/pack toes.Do you really think they will give us all some of there monies too?.

This aint the 1940s anymore where people give out free sample showbags to premote the product.

If i was them id think about it becuase all engines grow old and die but while in the short run its money for them .

                      yup... times have changed.
it's in their best interest to have a game that has a shorter lifespan than BF2, so that they can pump more titles out more frequently. making it unmoddable is one way to do it.

i don't care that much because i never really got into any BF mods other than DC for 1942.

Im not saying its not a damn shame ,becuase it is...I still think DC/POE is the benchmark of what BF should be.

We all know if its wasnt for DC there would be no Dice.

Can't the devs just release w/e they are using to make the game? Even if it's difficult and almost impossible to learn, I'm sure SOMEONE will, and the tutorials will start hittin the net.

They say it's "too difficult to use"... Well, release the damn things and let the community be the judge of that!

I don't think they will ever release what they're using, because they've paid for it (coyright/license problems)/use custom techs and softwares they've made and don't want them to be stealed etc.

Well I remember the way Garand explained it a few days ago... was something along the lines of you needed a well done IT infrastructure in order to develop Frostbite.

I just don't think you guys should be complaining so much about things that might work totally different than what you might think. Frostbite could take nuclear power to develop in for all we know.
