I don't see much arguing, actually if anyone started an argument, it was you

Although your ideas are so stupid there isn't even anything to argue about.. people just ignore you

      (joystick offers no advantage, right?)

Clearly someone in the aviation industry has seriously screwed up. Photo courtesy of Proto, I think.

Yeah lets replace the flight stick, throttle and switches of every jet by M/K!.

I think Chris's picture means an EOD (end of discussion).

I will never let this discussion die! Yet, it is a pointless argument because with practice you can be just as good with EITHER. One may be easier at first, but there IS a limitation to how the jets can perform in BF2 - this is not an aviation game people.

::Edited:: I like to add random words that don't fit

One thing that makes a joystick better imo is that you can easily reach every button you'll need. Without pressing the wrong button accidently.

When I still flew with mouse and keyboard, sometimes i pressed "e" instead of "d", "3" or "4". (views) On a joystick you have a hat switch which allows you to switch between views very quick.

With the joystick you don't have to control the "wasd" keys. (if you have 4 axes on it) So it's like having 3 extra fingers. :P

I tried a joystick yesterday after reading this thread. I'm sure it just takes time to get use to it, but I am not as steady with the mg. I've been using the M&KB since I started playing in 05 and will continue to do that, because it works for me. I have no problem shooting down a j-10 with a f35, but it did take a good while to get it down.

I play with a mouse and keyboard. I have 500+ hours flying, approx 50k kills in a jet and a 10.5-1 kdr. I would happily tell you that I can beat most players (good or bad) in a dogfight but if I face someone with equal skill (or even slightly less) and they are using a joystick then they will usually win. I can adjust the dpi on my mouse on the fly and do but it basically comes down to who can make the move the fastest. An experienced pilot that uses all joystick can make almost instant movements were it might take me .25-.5 seconds to complete the move. That is a lot of time when all things are considered.

With that said, I only play on pub servers so it really is not a big deal. If i played competitive clan servers or ladders I would take the time to learn with a good joystick.

The fact is, people who have the choice between joystick and a mouse, use the joystick. People who only have a mouse, will use the mouse. Work it out for yourself what this tells us.

Most people who use Mouse/Keyboard will openly admit that they wished they had a joystick

Unfortunately, there are a small minority who are annoyed that they've played with Mouse/Keyboard for hundreds of hours. As it wouldn't be feasible for them to re-learn their skills with another form of input, they try to convince everyone how good their method is.

Need an analogy? Player A uses his knife for 1000 hours, and is pretty damn good with it. Player B uses his G3 for 1000 hours, and is too, pretty damn good with it.

Player A is the naive mouse/keyboarder, Player B joystick. Who would you rather be?
                                Just ignore 'em.
