I know this, that's simple geometry. If you line up two objects, with the distance between them equal to 3.5 seconds of tv-missile-flight in a straight line then you would hit the target. If, however, you jerk around the flightpath in various directions the range (measured in meters or seconds doesn't matter) will increase, therefor you would plain not hit the thing you're aiming at.
I was trying to figure out the ACTUAL range in meters.Comment

LOL phil is a fat tard... None of these maniax guys are any good EXCEPT ellips. I am both gunning and piloting for this guy, and he is amazing. I can take him out, he can take me out, but he's honestly the only skilled guy in maniax.Comment

I completely agree. How is "ranging" cheap or bad in any way? I think it is one of the most intelligent ways of flying with the threat of ground vehicles and AA. Makes him harder to hit? Isn´t that the whole point of it all?In my opinion, ranging is the smartest thing a helicopter pilot/soloer can do: if executed properly, it effectively nullifies the opposition's chance of scoring a hit. It may not be the prettiest maneuver, but it's the most efficient in terms of survival.
I'm not mentioning helicopter ground work because that's an entirely different scenario. If you're not hindered/being challenged by a competent enemy chopper, feel free to be a sky ninja and using the ground and objects as cover. You have to adapt.
Switch up your tactics once in a while: range for a few kills, be a ninja for the next little bit... keep him guessing. Soon enough, he'll really stay back and b*tch. But anyway...
Yes, it takes more skill to navigate around ground objects while simultaneously fighting/hiding from another heli, but that's just obvious. It comes down to whether or not it's the intelligent solution to the problem: you're expending a lot more energy than he is... interpret that any way you want.
Yes, I am a PR player/realism fan.Comment

True :) ... Speaking of that chopper server, has anyone noticed some weird hitdetection? I can't seem to hit half my shots, most of them being clear and obvious hits (on the hitbox ofc, i am not one of those "omfg it went through"-whiners).Originally posted by SkaggyI'm a "ninja-style" pilot, most of the time. But it does depend on the map/situation.
In the chopper server I frequent, ranging is the norm. And when someone tries something different, players start whining...Comment

Yes. I've noticed... the hitbox seems to lag a little farther back, or at least, isn't consistently lagging behind, if that makes sense to you.Comment

Meh, don't gun too much anyway so I never notice...:p
I can't gun at all tbh, remember when I hit those two obstacles one after another!
Anyway, Ninja stylie pilots FTW!Comment

Dunno but lately Ive been having more shots go through than usual. Same thing with lag and TV bugs.
Yesterday my team nearly lost a round of wake because the missile got all laggy while I was aiming for an incoming BH. Missed that damn thing TWICE and as a result my team was stuck defending the airfield for the rest of the round. We pulled a 7-0 victory though.Comment
