That's what I've been running into lately. I'll spot the enemy chopper, line the gunner up for the shot, and he starts chaingunning infantry or tanks. Sometimes I even swing over to put his view right on the chopper and swing back to give him the shot, so I know he should have seen what he's supposed to be killing.

Well Sloi, no matter how good you think you are, until you can play with another persons goal as your own, you will always have room for improvement. You can never be the best at anything without help or without helping others.

Yeah yeah that sounded very hero-like and noble. But the goal here is not the be the best, the goal is to win the round. If your gunner does not kill, he waste a valuable position for the team. If a soloer, on the other hand, keeps the skies and ground clear, then the team will benefit.

I've already helped others by writing tutorials and making videos describing exactly what I do and think about when going through the motions, so interested parties have the necessary information and a great starting point to improve without impeding our ability to operate the chopper: in other words, they can learn on their own time in a private or quiet area.

Even if I felt the need to help someone improve and he was a willing participant, odds are he would need repeated instruction over the course of a month to achieve a satisfactory level of performance. Perhaps a little less if we're only talking about gunning. You over-estimate people's willingness to improve and ability to do so in a relatively short period of time.

Michael Jordan is one of the best, whether or not he spends time teaching others how to "fly". The key point is, we can teach others, but doing so on the job comes at a price... part of it is our enjoyment. I don't necessarily feel like spending MY TIME teaching you STUFF YOU SHOULD BE LEARNING ON YOUR OWN.

          :)

the goal is to leave a good impression in a server and to have your gunner\pilot say "damn you are good" :p

Leaving a good impression on your gunner generally means leaving your opponents pissed off. A pretty even trade if you ask me.

I dont think it was endless, but I know in the Demo version the range is about 650 - I still play that once in a while.

The time is in the timetolive.
so are you saying the TV distance is determined by Time, and not measured distance from the chopper? I'm just wondering because there have been times when I was in range (just under 450), fired the TV and as I was guiding it my chopper slipped backward away from the target and the TV exploded before reaching the target. If it was measured by time I would think it would of hit the target because it was initially in range. ???

Yes, the TV range is measured in time and not actual range. The more you move your missile, aka the more distance it travels to get to the target, the less range you will have.

Think about it, it's easier and more fair to do it by calculating time then by calculating the range.

For some reason this doesn't seem to convince me of your theory.

I mean, if you think about it, it would be easier to process it internally as time, rather than length.

But then again...the shortest distance from point A to point B is a straight line. But if I throw a few curves in that line, it doesn't effect the distance from those two points, just the distance you actually travel. Get what I'm saying? So technically, it could still be it's calculated by length.

If you multiply the time to live by the speed, you get 437.5(assuming that speed is calculated in m/s) - the real range of the TV guided missile, whether in a straight line or moving, since the time of self detonation is calculated in seconds - or a lifespan.

But, you also have to account for the acceleration. Which would be 300 m/s. Considering the maxSpeed is 125 m/s, you now need to figure how long it would take(and how far it would travel) before reaching it's maximum speed(~.41666667 or .417 seconds).

Someone help me finish my thought.

If you line up two objects, with the distance between them equal to 3.5 seconds of tv-missile-flight in a straight line then you would hit the target. If, however, you jerk around the flightpath in various directions the range (measured in meters or seconds doesn't matter) will increase, therefor you would plain not hit the thing you're aiming at.

I don't really know what you guys mean... The timetolive is obviously the time the missile can be in flight, while mixing around with these files I edited 3.5 to like 99999 and could hit myself after a while.

                                hey predrag.
I was your gunner when james started bitching. why? because we owned him many times. actually he started bitching AFTER the round was over, during the next round. how can you say your gunners kept missing?? I hit nearly every single shot in range. I think we dealt him at least 10 or 12 kills during that round and maybe he killed us half of that. I even complimented you on your flying and said it was a relief from the boring playing style of constant ranging seen on the ATG server.

I remember he challenged us on the choppers mayhem server after cause he was pissed, and he said that on chopper mayhem is "where we play good" - yeah as if he wasn't trying against us on the ATG server. he even had phil as his pilot the whole round.

I registered on here just to respond to your thread cause I found his argument very funny. Anyway I added you on xfire so we can chop sometime.
