Re: Helicopter pilots are under-appreciated
I think of myself as an average helo pilot, but I am a horrendous gunner (I suck w/ TV missile).
If I can communicate w/ my gunner on TeamSpeak then we are usually a force to be reckoned with (I'm sure an ace like Sloi would destroy us, but we do ok for not being full time chopper whores lol).
I usually have the problem of bad gunners and in particular people who can't or won't use the machine gun and this usually happens on Sharqi. Perhaps it's my graphics settings, but I see people running all over the ground and hover/circle strafe and the gunners just sit and stare or try to make 90deg TV shots into the ground directly below us (this never works BTW). This usually forces me to do some kind of ridiculous missile strafing run or get shot down by the Vodnik while waiting for the gunner to wake up.
More on topic, I think the larger problem is that a lot of people with a lot of playtime tend to overlook the jets or helos because there's always a line to use them. Now some of those jet and helo players might be taking a turn at infantry combat and the people that use the jets or helos are still learning even though they have tons of game time. Personally, I'm trying to learn how to fly a jet well. I've got 800 something hours of play time (plus another 700-800 in 2142), but only about 5 hours in a jet because I don't like standing there and waiting for something to crash, holding 'E' and praying that I get lucky and get in first. If a jet or chopper is sitting there unused with no line I will get in and do my best, but consequently I'm not the greatest at these roles.
