      omg too funny.
Its called a community of snipers, and they like to compete...One way to compete against each other is to try to meet or beat the record. dbss is the best sniper I have ever seen in this game.

So we should all keep our awesome accomplishments to ourselves?

Re: An examination of the Sniper kit: Why is it so attractive to new players?

If I'm squad leader I kick snipers off the team. They don't help cap flags nor protect them. I like a squad that's mobile and lethal
Then you're a bad squad leader. You might regret your decision when I'm knocking off your teamates from 400+ yards and you can't do anything about it.
Or maybe he wont regret it cause he'll knock you off from 400+ with any assault gun or he might not regret it cause he'll easily get around you or simply close enough to take u out or if u'r somewhere out of the way he might just be able to ignore u alltogether. He might also not regret it cause he'll run across much bigger threats than you frequently where medics, supports, spec opps etc. will be of much more use. Perhaps he'll also not regret it cause he'll just spot u and then u will surely be taken care of.
After all the decision to want to have the squad 'lethal and mobile' seems like a very good reason to me to not include a sniper in it. It all depends on tactics.

I forgot, if you are really out of assault gun range (even L85) a squad of 6 people can avoid u. The greater the distance the easier it'll be for them. Medics will love u though cause u'll help them to get tons of points.

That said, I too like to play the sniper kit from time to time, just for a change of pace.

A simple Vodnik/Humvee/Nj2046 usually reduces that sniper loving distance of 50-300m to a more healthy and AK47 freindly 1-10m. That is all.

You must have run across some pretty lousy snipers if you can take them out at 400+ yards with assault rifle. I'd also like to point out that a sniper is capable of covering a larger area from one position than just about anyone else in the game. So going around is going to take time, and interfere with the squads plans, both of which are goals for the sniper. AND a good sniper is rarely spotted by a 'lethal and mobile' squad. More likely, that squad would be spotted by the sniper. Then artillery happens.

I can see how for flag hopping tactics, a sniper may not seem like an ideal choice, but I disagree with kicking them. Just by joining that squad, that sniper has already shown some interest in teamwork with the squad. Kicking them without even seeing how they play might be wasting good talent and depriving the squad of some unique abilities.

In BF2 its near impossible to sight in on any target with the assault guns over a distance greater than 250 meters. Even with your precious L85A1.

And since when did distance benefit any class/kit except the sniper. I like to think it is the other way around. Distance is the snipers greatest advantage in the game.

Its funny to see that after 1 year this game has been released people are still spreading fantasy tales on forums.

k just had to do a quick conversion of yards to meters. 400 yards equals 365.76m (factor is 0.9144). Which doesn't help me much cause in the game I measure the distance out of instinct, so if you say 250m is as far as i can shoot then 250m it is. Out of experience I can safley say if i can see it I can shoot it.

Don't play stupid, distance benefits both the snipers and the squads defensive capabilities. A 6 man squad with medics is perfectly able of just taking cover going around or closing in on a sniper (in most cases is simply unnecessary).
Don't act like the maps in Bf2 are open fields where distance is everything.

Its funny to see that after 1 year this game has been released the forums are still covered with master snipers who single-handedly take out one squad after another consisting of players who have also been playing this game since it has been released.

I see your point, I was just telling you that there are good reasons for not including a sniper in a squad and that this normally doesn't result in making the squad completly defenseless to sniper fire (especially on urban maps).

After 250 meters or whatever it is in yards (who cares anyways and what was your point?) you cannt see anythying anymore. And thats where I will be.
And out of experience I can safely say that I will long have acquired my target before he has seen me.
But seeing as you only dwell on city maps, Karkand-MedPack anybody(?) with a Max 150 meters viewing distance, you will probably never know what I am talking about.

I saw that coming. I'm of course only a nooblet groundpounder pointwhoring on Karkand. I beg your pardon Mr. Master Sniper, hopefully I'll never have to face your ingenious ingame alter ego.

What was my point? Do you have to have everything spelled out for you? Not the smartest huh?
1 important part of reading is comprehension my friend, you should try it. Reading a book once in a while is a good training. What was the last 1 you read by the way (and no the Bf2 users manual doesn't count)?

No you are the overinflated medic who boasts about being able to hit anything he can see but rarely leaves the city maps in BF2.
You still FAIL to explain what yards have to do with your whole argument or does the U.S. version of BF2 use yards instead of meters?
I'll try to find a copy of my library card for you so you dont have to cry yourself to sleep tonight

                        Ok lets do this.

I don't see how saying: "if i can see it I can shoot it" would make me 'overinflated'. That these does not even imply that I outgun everybody at long range. But I won't let you turn this one around like that buddy. Just as a little reminder you were replying to me on a comment that simply stated, not including a sniper in a squad is not bad tactics.
Again, try to comprehend before you answer (there's no shame in reading things twice, I know you can do it :)
Diarrabies replied to me in a much more sensible way.

Since you seem to be so well informed about my habits in the game I suppose you looked me up. Well I had a look at your profile too. Both our global score is around 70k, you have played roughly 300h more than I did (not judging that, we both wasted quite some time on the game)
Most of my 630h I spend on city maps. The rural maps I've been on for 15-20h, even a little more than you have. The big difference is you played on Dragon Valley for 380h, thats more than double the amount of time that I've been on any map. So I guess you're rather one sided there. In this light your argument about me being on city maps much appears pretty lame.

You became quite obsessed with yards, dind't you. I can only refer you to earlier posts, there you'll find your answer. Reading is the key here.

I would appreciate your library card, if i ever go to the Netherlands...

I can only guess how you feel but I'm sure I'm not far off. I'll close this with Shakespeare: "... but for mine own part, it was Greek to me."
