Has this option been discussed in the ROE program?
Yes it's been discussed, but here's the problem: GSP's (people who rent out servers) want to make money. If they delist or refuse to serve someone, they lose money because chances are one of their competitors will rent that person a server.

I think there have been actual examples of this happenning.

I dont have any reason to argue with any of you, so I wont. I do have an Idea, may not be the best Idea but its a place to start. How about a tip of the day that shows up while you are waiting for the server list or server list update. If thats to hard to do how about a bumper sticker or sign on all transport vehicles (Humvee, vodnik, etc.) that just looks like this "www.BFROE.com" or whatever the real web address for ROE is. If anyone has a better Idea please post it here and maybe we will get this done! . . . . . . . . . . .Red

It sounds like ROE does shut down K/P servers, but the people just pickup and move to a new provider often...and under a different name. It sucks.

As Redrider said, yes, a MOTD would be great in the new patch. Considering 1.41 might be the last of the server patches for BF2, this could be the only chance for ROE to get a word in before everything goes away.

Yea but arent these GSP's a part of EA's trusted server partners?

I would think that EA could close these servers.....there aren't that many afterall. Then they would be done with the whole mess and it would serve as warning to others that would try the same thing in future EA games.

I do see what you are saying though.....I just think that EA could fix this without resorting to the time-consuming method of going after individual players that may or may not know that what they've done is against a set of rules that they didn't know exisit. Afterall how many other games have this problem?

I noted in another thread that it should be the hammurabi rules when it comes to getting caught cheating. Get caught on a K/P server, you get all your knife/pistol stats wiped. Get caught padding the engineer kit, you loose all your engineer time, repair points, and points gained under that kit (team and kills). Get get caught using a wall hack, you loose all your team points or there is a two rank penalty reduction. You get caught hacking the server or using an aimbot, well, either that calls for a CD key lock or an account wipe.

It makes for a lot of work, but to me, it really helps tailor the criminal to the crime in sentencing.

Edit: found that thread, it was a long one too:

Okay, I noticed there were a few more ROE threads popping up. I didn't realize for a moment my thread was closed. I would just like to ask everyone to keep the flames down on this thread because I really think this is a topic that needs to be adressed, not destroyed.

Through teamwork and comprimise, I think we can all come to a solution.

Thanks IndianScout for keeping this open for us.

So how many of you are going to join BFROE, and try to actually help?

Absolutely, while it might take some more work to do it it could be done. I completely agree about the punishment fitting the crime. To wipe out 500 hours of someones gaming time for a single visit to a KP server seems cruel. While some may not care about stats others do, that time spent and points earned mean differnet things to different people.

I wish I could, but I am not sure if I can meet the time commitment they probably need from me.

Depending on what it entails, I might. But I would only feel right enforcing such laws if everyone knew about them; thus the reason why I started this thread.

I'd join but only to offer suggestions on what could be improved. Which anyone can do if others are willing to listen.

I'll join, but I have to be honest, I prefer to warn people ingame. I might have reported 3-4 people in my life and those were extreme cases...well, then again a couple were serious and a couple were extreme.

I never realized that there was Transformers in your Icon. I just thought it was Cobra haha. That's pretty cool.

Off-topic I know, but I don't know how many times I've looked at it and never saw decepticons.

EA can't close any servers except their own because they don't own them. They could de-list the servers from the in-game browser (I think) or try to get the server owner to shut it down, but the people renting the server will just move to a different box or a different provider and get a new IP address. Their server will be back in the list quickly and then everything is back where it started.

I agree that going after the source of the problem (people who run K&P servers) is better than going after the players that play there (especially if they dont know what the ROE is), but they both accomplish the same result in the end. I mean really all they have to do is alter the browser code slightly so that anything containing "knife", "kn1f3", "K&P, "pistol" doesn't show up in the list. It wouldn't stop the problem, but it would make it pretty hard to find a server that had those rules.

I think the only way to "fix" things is to get an official announcement from EA via the in-game popup that links to the rules and warns people to follow them or get reset. This way the "but I didn't know I was wrong" arguement is moot because you have to close that popup window to play.

I'd join if my view that a video game shouldn't have a police force wasn't held in the same respect as the ideas of extremist Muslim fundamentalists.
