What do you expect from IO? IO just means that all the nade/claymore spammers are no longer afraid of a tank rolling up and blasting them away. No vehicles on large maps will also sunk too, cuz you will have to spend most of the time walking/running everywhere and then getting killed and having to walk/run there again.

        My opinion:

        IO-Bad
        Vehicles-Good

People are going to nade spam and claymore whore less because there will be more walkways open so people will be less compacted.

So you're saying the padding will be more widespread and not so concentrated?

Look Turnip, you may not be one of them, but most 24/7 Karkand players are just stats whores.

Remember when snipers had 8 X invincible claymores - Karkands full of snipers, remember when the tweaked PKM was discovered - Karkands full of support, remember the old noobtoob - Karkands full of assault.

Thats not even touching on building glitching, bunny hopping, turtling, prone spamming etc., etc.

All of these retarded behaviours, exploits, macro exploits have been at their worst on Karkand, because of the type of players Karkand attracts. I've only ever seen 2 people glitch into a building outside Karkand, and that was Dragon Valley, I'll wager this was some Karkand tard showing us how uberl337 he was.

Karkand always has and always will represent the worst of the stats whoring noob exploiters who exploit and pad their way through rounds and rounds of karkand 24/7. Karkand is already BF2 at it's worst, and the IO patch is just feeding the stats whoring glitching bunny hopping macro abusing retarded point whores.

I just don't see this level of retarded behaviour when Karkand comes up as part of a normal rotation, sure there's a little, but those guys probably learned that crap on 24/7.

It's just truth that nobody is more willing to whore and exploit than Karkand 24/7 players, and it's not the vehicles using the exploits and macros, it's infantry.

And as I said earlier, IO mode is going to be very appealing to cheats.

So why don't they play 16 / 32 player size of any map, or play Mashtuur and Sharqi, why are they all on 64 player 24/7 Karkand? Even servers running infantry map rotations are barren.

And as PW already pointed out Mashtuur has even less armour than Karkand, so if armour and bombs really are the reason Mashtuur would be more popular than Karkand, but it's not. You can go through all the denail and excuses again, but they've all been offered here already, and shot down convincingly.

Furthermore, you'd have to be in a pretty predictable location for that to happen, the targeting systems in jets only highlight "vehicles". And if that's the case then you're likely to be taken out by anything, not just bombs.

                  Rant On
Everyone with a semblance of intelligence can see the flaws in the IO model they are plain to see. My personal pick was the suggested vehicle light where jeeps were still around to use, it solves transport problems on the larger maps (especially without being able to switch SL now) and AT would be there still looking for those sweet full jeep kills.

Can I ask why people are so worried about the players on 24/7Karkand and IO being ranked? Is it because of the points they will be getting? Who f'n cares!!!! The only thing worth worrying about that points get you are unlocks. Are you worried some idiot on 24/7 Karkand is going to get more fictional points and fictional ranks that besides making you more eligible for commander mean absolutely zip, nothing, zero? Sure it may be fun to go for some of the badges but is not getting that badge really going to ruin the game play for you? In my opinion I hope it is easier for them to get points because then they will remain in their 24/7 Karkand lair grenade spamming, reviving, prone jumping, exploiting, admiring each others fictional rank and leave the rest of the servers to those of us who value a good game rather than points (besides the odd imbecile that slips through the net).

As to IO only I am looking forward to see how it goes. I can see the flaws but I am sure there are some clever types out there that will work out which maps IO will work better for and only put those in rotation and lesson some of the flaws. My main excitement for IO is I might even start playing Vanilla more regularly instead of SF most of the time. I dislike vanilla and the reason I dislike vanilla at the moment (like many) is solely and specifically because of jets, with them gone I might actually have a fun time in there again. I am not saying jets do not take skill to become good at I know they do but jets are overpowered and the air equivalent of a karkand whore imo opinion because besides other jets (and looking at the amount of threads on it on many maps even this is not right) and lack of some skill they have no other counters. There is a reason the jet is TK'd for more often than any other vehicle and people will sit for half a game in one spot to get it (hint: its not because it looks cool).

Anyway in summary IO has flaws but I am looking forward to giving it a go to see how life is without having to worry about veh whores ruining the game for me. If it doesn't work I go back to SF non IO and continue having fun.
P.S I think some people need to realise this is DICE's not their game and in the end (debate is always fun though isn't it?) they can do what they want to it. If you have an issue cancel your server subscription, post your complaints and goodbye speech and move on

Rant Off, undies unbunched, good luck and goodnight

I play 16 & 32 man servers quite often, I enjoy them as much as 64 man servers.

And as for PW's "analysis" of Mashtuur being a better infantry map... we are talking about someone who cries about "bunny hopping, stat padding, grenade spamming!!111" (actually you both do) so it does not surprise me in the least that either of you have such a naive outlook on infantry combat in this game (I'll make it easy for you, Mastuur 64/32 sucks for *pure infantry because of the large, wide open areas between flags, which translates to nothing but 1/2 of a team sitting on their *** sniping).

Seriously, do either of you even play infantry in any way shape of form?
I can't imagine that you do, based on both of you literally crying about every single element of BF2 ground-based combat.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that both of you are of the "spot, prone, spray & pray" ilk, and god forbid anyone kill you in any way other than that, thus here comes the whining.

Just judging on some of the newbie comments you two have made in this topic, I would love to see either of you in action on the ground.

Yeah, whenever Mashtuur, Sharqi, or Karkand come up I avoid using armour. I like the variety of different kits, so it's a good change. But I'll use it if the commander or squad leader says to, or other exceptions (e.g. the enemy keeps stealing it).

Lately however you'll only find me on Fly Boys servers, I'm trying to achieve some things. Well I'll be honest I'm racing some friends to a badge. Not some stats count or anything, just first to get there. So you'll have to give it a month or so before you'll see me in my normal favourites, which are just full rotations on Gamearena (Australia) 64 player servers.

So you're saying that grenade spamming, bunny hopping, dolphin diving, prone spamming, heal / revive whoring, and macro 'turtling' / hit box exploiting (ala Volx) comprise "every single element of BF2 ground-based combat", my god man it's worse than I thought.

Re: So this is IO..(infantry only)

I've not read all the way through this gargantuan thread, but I'll throw in my 2p

IO is a good concept. But I think that's all it really is until a balance is put in place to offset the various classes and map designs. IO is a great idea though and could be done well. The maps I have played have been a bit crap due to the odd pleb jumping into a nearby vehicle when he can't get the better of you. So I can't fully judge what IO will be like fully until the rules are in place on the servers.

The major flaw in the way it has/will be implemented is the class structure and the balance of various maps. As you know, several maps have uncappable bases with vehicles for one side while the other side usually have the rest of the map capped at the start. The vehicles are there to weigh out the disadvantage of having to storm a map from your starting base that is completely occupied by the enemy. Vehicles gave you that extra nudge to make it fair. IO servers tip the balance in favour of the MEC on Karkand and the USMC on Sharqi for example.

A quick example of unbalanced would be on Sharqi. You normally have the MEC storm in in vehicles, flanking the USMC and mixing infantry in there to try and break through the lines......

On IO Sharqi, you have all the USMC starting out as snipers, meds and support. Every flag is going to be claymored to hell and so is every ginnel and alleyway. Those souls fortunate to get through are gonna be taken out by the snipers scattered everywhere. I know it's not impossible and good players will find a way. But you cannot deny that without vehicles the MEC are knackered.

So lets rule out Sharqi for a start. Karkand is similar but the shi* storm at the hotel that takes place is amplified on an IO server. Fun as hell, but novelty fun at best. The presence of tanks and APC's parked up at the hotel and the market make for a more intense, diverse game and requires all the classes.

So in short, IO is a great idea but needs to be implemented with balance in mind or it will only work on a handful of maps. Which maybe the whole idea. I can't help feeling that DICE are trying to implement some sort of official stat padding method to give certain players a way to buff up their stats and keep them interested long enough until 2142 gets released.

Hopefully 2142 will have maps designed with IO in mind so this can be avoided.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

IO USMC on Sharqi for the stat padding w1n!!!!11!! Vet badges all round!!!! :hmm: :|: :)

I'll try it because honestly, for as much I love using tanks, it would be good to see the skills of plane, chopper, and tank whores on the ground.

I cant speak for everyone but I would like some of the maps to be more infantry oriented. Not all of the time just every three maps or something like that. I like the vehicles alot because they add depth and diversity of gameplay to master. I dont like it when they dictate every single battle though. I enjoy a good squad as much as a good vehicle. Maybe even more. If there were even a few maps where infantry were more of the primary element I think it would be better overall. I dont ever play most of the chinese maps and usually stick to just a small handful of maps unfortunately. I would play all if some of them were better for infantry. I have nothing against vehicle users, I myself like to use vehicles. And I know alot of older gamers enjoy using vehicles alot. If you cant rotate maps and gametypes in the server config files then it will just split up the playerbase. In that scenario I will play the original instead of IO. But options are always good.

My scenario would be to allow servers to set max player and map size independently. For instance allow 64 players on a 32 player map size. I think that would bring some of the maps back into the middle area. Then add maybe three more maps that are good all around infantry maps. The game would have a nice blend that I personally prefer.

But see, the thing is, with a good squad, a vehicle isn't a problem. Usually a good squad will have at least one AT trooper, usually more, and a support guy for ammo, a medic, and maybe even a Spec Ops mixed in. With a good squad, vehicles are very easy to overcome. The only 'good squad' you'll find on IO that you won't find on regular maps are 6-man medic squads, and that's not really any more of a 'good squad' than just a bunch of lonewolves. A true 'good squad' will make all of the maps playable, winnable, and quite fun. The only time a vehicle would be a problem would be if nobody in the squad wanted to go AT and take it out in which case it's not really a good squad at all, just a bunch of medics sticking together and spawning on one another.
