Re: Beefing up Transport Choppers on all sides?

The transport chopper nerfs should be rolled back in favor of the 1.0 behaviour. The only thing that was really wrong with the transport choppers was how overpowered they were on Mashtuur. Replace the choppers on mashtuur with more jeeps or choppers with no guns and the problem is solved. The transport choppers have become so useless now that many people just use them for kamikaze missions or let them collect dust at the airstrip. If the choppers are gonna continue to be useless, then I suggest that they should be removed from the game.

Learn to fly or learn to fly the Attack chopper, they are designed to kill people on the ground, even in the air, hurray!)

However, the armor on the choppers is rubbish, it needs to be improved. A .50 cal will rip it up far too quickly and the jet cannons just vaporise the damn things
I disagree. As they are right now, they are about as effective as the fake .50 cal wooden machine guns my dad installed on my treehouse, except these make cool noises and flashes. They're fun to shoot while you're being transported around...but that's about it.

I've killed people with them and I've damaged vodniks with them, but those instances are very few and very far between.

Either make them more effective or just get rid of them altogether.

Yes, the armor on the choppers aren't very high, and I don't really have a problem with that. If the pilots fly high and then descend quickly over their LZ, you should be okay. Which is the way it should be.

Aircraft just don't take as much damage as land vehicles do.

as they should be, say it with meh now TRANSPORT! with the right pilot/gunner communication that minigun can be awfuly good, but nobody cares, they just want thier easy kill machine back. its the same thing with those retarded attack heli pilots that dont understand how to fly smooth enough to give thier gunner some accuracy.

This is a common misconception. BF2 has been out for awhile and most people can grip the blackhawk or the skycow pretty good now. If the pilots were really that worthless then you wouldn't see people doing kamikaze missions so accurately. The real problem that you fail to acknowledge is that pilots are indeed worthless if their minigunners can't defend the chopper properly due to the nerf. How is a loaded blackhawk supposed to accomplish anything when the gunners can't do jack against an AA emplacement? The reason splash damage used to be so high was to compensate for the fact that you are flying through the air thus making it difficult aim. Now the miniguns are practically worthless unless your pilot is stationary which is not an option.

if the pilot flys smooth, and the gunner can aim, the weapon system works, and thats that.

the role of a transport helicopter is to transport troops to a fight, and not to attack the enemy, but to support your friendlies. what i am saying is that the door guns are not meant to take out aa because you shouldnt be a target for aa. the door guns are for killing enemy that are shooting at the soldiers your drop off.

they can still be quite well utilized while doing a SMOOTH orbit

Unfortunately, the transport choppers are huge targets for AA as well as other aircraft. Hell, I've gotten good at taking down blackhawks with the AT kit. Jeeps and APC's can tear transport choppers to shreds as well. The fact of the matter is that the BH miniguns are pathetic now, they overheat too fast, do little damage, and are worthless for supporting any friendlies. The cold hard truth remains that transport choppers are hardly used at all anymore. This is a far cry from the pre 1.0 days when it was common to see people eager to jump in a transport. What has happened since then?

How can the purpose of a transport chopper be fufilled when the weapons it comes with cannot provide adequate defense? Who are you to claim what the role of a transport chopper is? Why can it not be used for attacking as well? Transport choppers were overnerfed and that's that.

in 1.0 everyone wanted to get in, yet nobody wanted to get out, thats not really transporting is it? lets take wake for instance, can you honestly say that people dont pile into the blackhawk on that map?

i never said it cant, but thats opperating outside of your role which is dangerous, and rightly so.

                      1 entry found for transporting.

                      <!-- begin ahd4 --><!-- google_ad_region_start=def --> trans·port ( P ) Pronunciation Key (trns-pôrt, -prt)
tr.v. trans·port·ed, trans·port·ing, trans·ports To carry from one place to another; convey.

This is what transport choppers do. Carry from one place to another, it is up to the chopper crew to decide whether or not they should stay or leave. A fully loaded BH crew can hop from flag to flag and wreak havoc for the other team. Unfortunately, the nerfed miniguns, chopper armor, and incredibily effective AA have made this tactic useless. The reason people pile into the BH on wake is because there is no other way to the island. Once USMC gains a foothold on the island the BH goes back to its dust collecting role at the carrier.

With a good BH crew in the pre 1.0 days it was possible to turn the BH into an effective offensive weapon. You can still take out armor with the miniguns just as effectively as before but it is really infantry that the miniguns are meant for. I have a few peculiar tactics that I use myself when I go solo in the BH. I like to park a BH on strategic parts of the map and use the miniguns to rain death down on tanks and APCs. I also use the BH to kamikaze attack choppers. Really, i'm not the only person that does this. More often then not I see the BH being wasted as a way to transport snipers to an obscure hiding spot when it could be used to cap flags and end the game quickly.

So to sum things up, you acknowledge that the transport choppers were used frequently but now since all the patches, hardly anyone uses them. It would be wrong to generalize what the role of a particular vehicle is just based on it's name alone. DPVs have the capability for transporting as well but they are also effective AA vehicles, C4 packed armor busters, temporary invincibility machines (repeatedly switch seats to keep from being hit :)), cartillery, C4 booby traps for enemies, etc. To claim that transport choppers are only meant for flying to one location and dropping off people is totally missing the entire point of Battlefield 2 which is open ended gameplay that's only limited by your imagination, much like the Grand Theft Auto series.

Re: Beefing up Transport Choppers on all sides?

Exactly, you want to talk about roles being played

The snipers role is to snipe, but I see all kinds of snipers driving tanks.

The role of F35 is to take down other jets and somewhat for bombing, but somehow I find poeple hovering over my uncappable and owning everyone.

The fact of the matter is, not everything gets used for what it is meant to be.

Agreed, all the noobs complaind in 1.00 and 1.02 how powerful the BH guns were, now look how mucked up the game is. They shouldn't have took away from the BH, only add to the non US choppers. All the noobs just refused to learn from the challenge and took it as an impossibility. The choppers were certainly not god mode, I remember taking them down many times in 1.00.

No, I know for a fact they certainly cannot destroy armour in the current patch, unless you are stealing someone's kill (it has 1 or 3 bars left). In 1.0 Patch I know it was not easy at all to take out armour with the mini guns, I remember it being possible, but not worth the effort at all...

But wen i see them on wake i ignore the things and wait till they drop there load on the target, i make no attempt to knock the helicopter out as its a waiste of time!

When I put this question in to the feedback forum I really expected some discussion about transport choppers

Why has nearly every post talked about the Blackhawk????

I understand that many US palyers love this game, but why do they care so little about making teams more balanced?

All I've seen from this thread is Blackhawk bla bal bal...........

I asked about all transport choppers, why does everyone just go on about the Blackhawk?

Don't you want to see all choppers equal?

Yes, the Blackhawk ruled and that was ****, but at least debate about making the other choppers having a chance at making a small difference other than just sitting there and doing nothing......
