Re: Which gun would you love to have IRL?

I own 3 guns and am planning to buy more. I thank God for the right to do that. There have been 2 times when having these guns has gotten me out of bad situations without a shot fired.

      1) Was taking the dog for a walk and came home. I thought I heard something in the garage so I grabbed my pistol and went out to check it out. There were 2 men burglarizing me. I held them both at gunpoint until the police arrived.

      2) I was driving home from work and apparently I accidentally cut this gentleman off. I was living in Oregon at the time and I always carried my pistol with me. The guy suffered from severe road rage and followed me to my next destination. He got out and started yelling and cursing at me. When he reached into his car and grabbed a bat, I knew this was going to be bad. I explained to him that he was making a mistake and to get back in his car and leave. He refused and started coming at me. I simply unholstered my .40 and put it to my side letting him know that if he took another step, he would be shot. After a few seconds, he realized how foolish he was being and left. He didn't apologize, but I didn't really expect him to.

My point is that, had I not had my guns, these situations could have been much worse. I have my guns because I LOVE to go to the range and shoot them. I find it relaxing and it allows me to let off steam. I will, however, use them to defend myself in my home if needed. I truly hope that I never have to use them on anyone. I love the fact that if I am in danger, I can use them to defend myself and not have to worry about whether or not I have a kitchen knife available.

An extreme conspiracy theorist's scenario, but unlikely. Even if a military coup was to take place, people in this country have a habit of rising up with pitchforks...
The UK has had a democracy for hundreds of years, and will continue to do so. Any attempt to erode our civil liberties is fearcely fought against. Even personal ID cards are frowned upon. Unfortunately this does have other implications. We're a little too free, and illegal immigration has become a political hot potato.
I understand the constitution allows gun ownership to protect you against your government, but if that's the case still, it does suggest that your society isn't as stable or as free as you think, or as free as us "Old Europeans".

Texas has very loose gun control standards (18 for a rifle 21 for a handgun) but ironically it has a much lower murder rate than New York. There will always be killers out there and i bet if that burgular had been armed, he would have promptly shot you without thinking twice about it. he was probably expecting the house to be empty
I agree, I live in Detroit. Don't expect to get away with such foolishness here like screaming at robbers. Crackheads will do absolutly anything to get what they want. My grandfather was mugged a few months back by someone that clocked him on the back of the head with something very large; that's what happens when you try to run away. Had he had a gun, who knows what would have happened. I know what my grandfather would have done had he had one himself though. My slumlord before I moved out of that dump was carjacked at gunpoint less than 3 blocks from where I live! A friend of the family also had her house envaded by a theif brandishing a knife. She lived down the street from me.

Just because it hasn't happened to you or you happened to fend off one sorry bastard with your looks doesn't mean you won't get killed the next time. I bet you were wishing you had a gun at the time Flares.

What do I need an assault rifle for IRL? Making sure my government doesn't forget that the people of the U.S. controls THEM, not the other way around.

Oh, and zombie attacks. Woe to the person caught without an assault rifle on z-day.
LMAO, I love zombie movies. Gotta make sure you have a weapons cache ready for the zombie invasion!

living in england i can't get proper guns. the best i can get without license is an air rifle and airsoft weapons (i own both). However i have fired the SA80A2 with the british army (i used to be cadet) so the L85 would be nice IRL. the workings of it are brilliant as its a bullpup.

I think it would be better if the "founding fathers" declined the right to bear arms... that way we'd have way more people joining the military.

You must remember, the US was founded by guys who realized how well pitchforks work against a repressive government.

Wow people need to chill out and not slag of each others country were on the same side after all . I've know one paricular american for years and he has all sorts of guns mainly because were he lives he has bears and crap roaming around his back garden at night. And owning a weapon for stuff like that is fair enough by me same with for hunting or because you like to shot targets i'd like to do that myself in the uk but i dont think ill ever get the chance. So basically different countries = different situations and reasons for those weapons.

On another note id aslo like to point out that there isnt a thing wrong with either capitalism and solciaism the uk isn't a solcialist society its actually very capitalistic with elements of socialism (the uk invented capitalism) basically we have a balance between both and theres nothing wrong with that. Imo there are certain things in life that you cant leave in the hands of a private company because people are genuinly not trust worhty and will steel and your money (thats the bottom line for any company to MAKE MONEY). For instance ive watched a couple of true life films about American insurance companys that have litterally taken peoples money and had a policey of automatically denying payments. In one particular true life film this lead directly to the deaths of hundreds of people they paid there insuirance and were covered for there illness but the company were arseholes and wouldnt not payout (that company still exsist to this day they just folded after losing there court case and reopened under a different name).

lol back to the topic of the original thread starter the only weapon in the game i would like to own if i was able to would be a L85 it supposed to be extremly accurate and its a question of national pride aswell with me (lol GB rules ).

I could not agree with you more Hando. These are the kinds of situations that I dread as someone who is financially unable to own a gun. Conversely, because of the crazy laws in our country it is difficult to get away with killing a criminal. Self defense laws are a minefield. You can't shoot someone in the back while they're running away, the guy can always argue that it was you who tried to rob them etc. The good thing though is that you can always perform a Citizens arrest like you did with the guys that tried to burglarize your garage. It's every citizens duty to uphold the law.
