Re: Is eng. a worthless class

what's being stated here by the engineer fans to make the class look "great" are the only roles the Engineers fit: driving and mine laying. The only other reason I would be engineer is anti-claymore work and only if I'm really frustrated with the things.

basically, the engineers are just like the pilot classes from battlefront. Their guns are short range, making them easy to take out at length, and they have little use outside a vehicle. At least the pilot class in battlefront could double as medic.

Are you guys smoking crack or something? Engineer is one of the most important classes, which along with medic can get you tons of points. Class that gives you the least amount of points is sniper, and then assault, considering that by playing assault you cannot get those special points, such as healing/repair/resupply points. Don't ever disperage the classes that will bring you aditional points, besides killing and flags only. If you don't know how to play with the engy class, that's a different story.
you, sir, are the one on crack and may I have some? I've gotten a hell of a lot of points as assault and play it almost dedicatedly. In fact, a couple weeks ago I got 62 points and a gold medal because I pawned with my F2000. If you're an idiot and a lousy shot, you won't get points as assault, but I think a good assault player could get more points that a good engineer, on foot, any day of the week.

        Bingo!
You started very well by making an accurate (if rather obvious) statement, but then proceded plow yourself under by attempting to counter the value of the class by making another accurate (yet obvious) statment.

        Engies drive/ride/drop mines/fix stuff. It's their point.
Would you conister a sniper useless because they don't rush the front lines? Is assualt useless because they can't blow up assets? Medics must be useless because they can't give you ammo, yeah?

BTW, I finished out a round with 110 points while playing engie lastnight.

but how many of those 110 points were in a tank? if so then that had nothing to do with eng

            Wow. Again.
I used the tactics I previously mentioned.
I got a buddy to go engie and come with me. Tank + APC. I was in the APC, BTW. Outscored my bud 'cause of the higher rate of fire and the fact that we were mostly engading "squishies" (grunts).

Mow, mow, mow the troops down! Oops, my bud took a kit. Oh well, a couple repair points! That's nice too. Hey, someone just hit my mine! Cool.

Getting the occasional supply crate dropped on us helped too. Crate repairs + engie radius repairs = An almost invunerable position. AT round? Pfft! Warn me when someone comes with C4.

Every class has a point to it. Just because the engineer is better suited in a vehicle than on foot does not make the class "useless". You can be effective in a tank with any class...but you can be more effective as an engineer. It's what the class does...it enchances your vehicles and uses it's mines against the enemy's. Running around with your shotgun in an attempt to slug it out with Assualt and Support troops shows that you are clearly playing the class incorrectly.

Re: Is eng. a worthless class

I'm with you Wargimp. I frequently play engineer on many different maps, in armor and lately often on foot. Drop the mines in good choke points, but try to hide them better than right out in the open. AT mines can seal off many paths for armor allowing your team's AT soldiers to take out the stymied armor. People might see them at first, but more than once have I seen someone roll up on my mines, back up, and come back later only to hit those very same mines. As for the shotguns and MP7, both have their stengths and weaknesses. Shotguns will protect you at close range, the MP7 at medium range and then there's always the pistol for further ranges. The trick is to use all of the weapons to maximize your points.

almost every class excels in 2-4 areas then the others while eng barly does better in 1 that being tanks and like i said many many times anyone with a supply crate is pretty much a eng.

I'm not positive, but I'm perty sure my toaster has a higher learning capacity than you seem to.

Just because you keep stating something (supply crates are better than engies), doesn't make it true. Especially when it's been proven repeatedly that you are flat out wrong and have very little ability to understand the issue at hand.

                    SO!
                    One more try to crack this cocnut with me nerfbat;

Supply crates are static. They can't move and the commander can only drop 'em every so often. That's assuming he's on-the-ball enough to drop 'em where they are handy and/or respond to requests for drops. That's perty rare all by itself.

Eniges working together are mobile. They can repair eachother whenever and whereever they need it. Plus, with 2 pieces of armour working together it's less likely that sneaky spec opps guys can get in there and blow 'em up.

Engies are a teamwork focused class. On their own, they aren't super effective. When gouped, they can be round altering powerhouses. I strongly suspect that this is where you're falling down. I'm guessing you don't bother with teamwork much.

i'v never had any problem getting a supply crate when i ask for one and to solve the problem of not being able to get them so often just send in a request to the spot your heading so by the time you get there you will prob have one droped. But maybe they don't like you, i wouldn't be surprised on that one :P

Re: Is eng. a worthless class

actually, shadowace has a point. If the engineers are only good at one job it's because that job can be a pain in the ass to the enemy. It's a balance trade-off: you get 2 armored vehicles next to eachother, forming a position that is impossible to assault for anyone but a good spec ops player but, you give up having the lethality the other classes (except for sniper) have, on foot.

So, if you want to pawn royally, be engineer get in an APC or tank and stick close to the other APC and/or Tank. IF you want to duke it out on foot, be assault, support or even just spec ops.

Apparently any attempt to education you is futile at best.

I was on our full 64 server tonight playing USMC Engineer on Karkand, i spawned at the left arty position every time, i never got past the square, & i never once got in a vehicle drivers seat.

But i got the most kills that game, all on foot...38 to 10 deaths.

All the USMC armour got through the bottle neck south of the hotel as i was clearing the AT mines.

I nly got 4th but we won and i felt proud that none of the armour got more kills than me and my hammer !

Key to Engi is stay in cover and use sprint to get across expanses, also use sprint to get in close to your enemy to make the hammer more affective.

Engineers repair faster than the crates. Crates also don't move, and repair enemy vehicles if you lose a showdown. An engineer will repair a tank almost as fast as an AT can damage it, faster if they're not taking shots as fast as they can. Two engineer-loaded tanks next to each other is devastating. Throwing an AT mine on top of a vehicle will blow it up as soon as it arms, it's like ghetto C4.

In other words, engineers working as a team are insanely effective. Engineers not working as a team are sub-par. Given most people here play on pubs which have practically no teamwork, I can see why people hate engie so much. :P
