ok ill try that gunner. the thing is, i dont want to do anything crazy. I just want the four buttons to be able to do: squad commands, squad/commander screen, spawn screen, and map. for that should i use a macro or should i just use "assign to key" and assign one of the buttons to capslock for example for it to be the squad screen.

I have the MX518 and a 1030 Func Gaming surface. It is excellent. I can't believe how much of a difference it made from my old mouse+mousepad combo. Much more responsive, sensitive, and smoother gliding.
The MX518 has 3 DPI settings, making it useful for different situations. I want higher DPI in the tank but lower DPI in the TOW. Setting the sensitivity in game doesn't work for that.
It's slightly better than the Diamondback because it is more ergonomic, and it doesn't have a really bright light to keep me up at night. In fact it doesn't shine light out the back of it at all.
The fact that it has 3 settings, based on keys pressable on the mouse, makes it awesome for BF2.

Im using the MX518 and I love it. I almost went wit hthe razorback but my hands are big and the Logitec just fit better.

I'm using the Logitech MX1000 and I love it! It was pricey, and I'm not rich by any means, but I still think it was worth it.

i got the buttons to work on the diamondback, so now we're talking!!!! it looks like the mx518, mx1000, and diamondback are still battling for the top of the hill as the best gaming mouse. go diamondback!!!

I love my Razer Diamondback. There is one problem with it though. I'm a tall guy (6'2") and have fairly big hands, the razer is pretty skinny. If you have big hands it will take some getting used to. I have also heard complaints of the 6-7 buttons being hard to reach. You have to use your ring or pinky finger to access them. Wouldn't be a problem if they weren't so small. I'm happy with the performance on the mouse, but I wish the 6-7 buttons were larger.

i use a logitech mx510 (i think? or maybe 518) - works for me. I also use a func pad. not really sure that it makes that much of a difference though...

i have a saitek executive (i think again? lol) keyboard. it looks awesome. it blue lights underneath the keys. you can set it to high, low, and off brightness. i don't really care for the lights, so i usually turn it off. it is a zero slant (again, not sure on the terminology, look it up on newegg or something.) the keys are all flat, no slanting, so it took me a little bit to get used to it.

and my cyborg evo joystick arrived today. i think its made by saitek too. will see if that makes my flying any better, heh.

I have a MX310 mouse and tried my friends 518, 710, and 1000 and think they are bad for gaming, Especially trying to slow move the cursor. Since all the logitec mouses are designed to ergonomically fit the shape of your hand they dont take into account how your hands get when you try to slightly move it (sniping). So you have this crescent moon shape that right on your thumb (with the 310 on both sides). When you try to slightly move the cursor with logitec mouses you have to pivot your whole wrist, which is hard to do when trying to aim. The more practical and better way to do this is to pivot your thumbs with the mouse pad and have less contact to the fingers (the pointy part of razor's) so it looks somethign like this )< instead with logitec you have this )). I cant really explain this without actually showing you but i hope you get the general idea that with logitecs you are basically piviting your whole wrist to get those tight aim shots where you need little movement of the mouse.

MX518. Upgrade from a standard Microsoft 3-button + Scroll mouse. The Microsoft mouse served me well in many games, but with all the seperate Push-To-Talk buttons in BF2, I needed something with more buttons. MX528 is a dream, as I can change sensitivity on the fly. Let's say I'm tearing it up as a Support at 1,600 DPI, and I pick up a Sniper kit... Hit the "- Sensitivity" button twice to lower it to 400 DPI to get off perfect sniper shots.

MX518, N52Speed Pad, XTRAC XL game pad (mouse pad), XTRAC Mouse Dotz (teflon feet) and it's a whole new ball game. I'm a gamer who need all the help he can get, and this all certainly helps. I'm still getting used to the 3 (or more) sensitivites on the mouse (you can program upto 5), but I like the design idea. I have the MX510 also and the 518 is lighter so it's very easy to move slowly.

Not so easy to find a decent mouse when you're left-hander... The wheelmouse sucks for gaming but I'm not using it (I like its feel when surfing though), the mouse itself is pretty solid and precise enough for me.
