A collaborative game plus COVID are a dangerous mix.

The augmented reality game for mobile devices, Minecraft Earth, is set to shut down in June 2021. The game was a bit like Pokemon Go but instead of catching cute creatures, you would come together as a community to build structures in the real world out of virtual Minecraft blocks. You would obviously not see them in the real world but you could easily see them through your phone's screen.

Minecraft is an absolute juggernaut. But then again, most of you have probably already realized that a long time back. In November of 2019, Microsoft revealed that Minecraft had sold "just" 180 million copies around the world. Six months later in the here and now that is May 2020, Microsoft reveals that the game sold another 20 million units to hit the incredible 200 million units sold mark.

Build an alternate reality.

Microsoft wants to build a world within our own world. That's the basic idea behind the newly announced augmented reality game, Minecraft Earth. This is a newly announced upcoming augmented reality game that should be coming to a mobile phone near you this Summer with the launch of a closed beta program.
