  • XBOX: 1,600 Layoffs Today, Another 1,600 Over the Next Year, Four Studios Now Independent or Sold, Arkane in Limbo

More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

Arkane May be Shuttered by Microsoft

And obviously the Blade game might get canceled.

Arkane Studios joins four other XBOX owned studios that are being put on the chopping block. According to "sources familiar with Microsoft's plans" talking to The Verge, Microsoft is "currently weighing closing at least five studios, including the developers behind Marvel's Blade."

Those sources tell The Verge that Microsoft has plans to cancel Blade as part of their monumental cost cutting measures...

These studios are also in "negotiations" with XBOX.

Since news broke about the impending closure of Compulsion Games, we have learned that two other XBOX studios are in "negotiations" with Microsoft that will determine their fate. Those studios are Ninja Theory and Double Fine Productions.

A report from The Verge says that employees at Ninja Theory were told about the closure during a team call on Monday. Nothing seems to be set in stone just yet...

    Microsoft's culling has already started.

According to a report from Kotaku, Compulsion Games is currently "in 'negotiations' with Microsoft." These negotiations are to determine...

We Happy Few DLC 'We All Fall Down' Releases on November 19

This will be the game's last piece of DLC.

Gearbox Publishing and developer Compulsion Games announced the release date for We All Fall Down, the final piece of DLC for We Happy Few. Though the original game came out near the tail end of 2018, Compulsion Games has continued to support the title with a number of content updates and general updates here and there. Perhaps it's time to return to the game to see how it has improved since I reviewed it back in August of 2018.

    Final Review: We Happy Few

    A fleeting Joy.
The other week, I put up a review in progress for We Happy Few. For the sake of simplicity, I left that intact below this "final" review section up top here. So, how did We Happy Few fare given the extra time I spent with it? Not well. Not well at all. As the hours continued on, the love affair I had with the game started to chip away. At first it was just a minor annoyance when I would run into issues like poor A.I., but it became harder and harder to ig...

We Happy Few "The ABCs of Happiness" Trailer

There's a new "ABCs of Happiness" trailer out today for We Happy Few. That's kind of it. That's all this press release said so let me add in some filler information here so that this isn't a barebones post.

We Happy Few will be released on August 10, 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will retail for $59.99 (USD).
About We Happy Few We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in th

We Happy Few Approved for Release in Australia

Australia is known for a number of things like extremely hot weather and the Outback (Steakhouse and otherwise). It's also known to be really ass backwards when it comes to rating games even after they adopted the R18+ rating a few years back.

Case in point, the Australian Classification Review Board initially denied a classification to We Happy Few. Compulsion Games filed an appeal with the board and it looks like they changed their mind, granting the game an R18+ rating in...

We Happy Few to Launch on August 10

We Happy Few is readying the Joy and preparing to finally be released on August 10 for the PC, Xbox One, and... PlayStation 4.

In case you're confused, Gearbox Publishing is still set to publish We Happy Few on all platforms. The agreement came long before Microsoft acquired Compulsion and well after pre-orders were made. I just wouldn't expect to see any future titles from Compulsion Games make their way to the PlayStation 4.
Over the next few months, we will officially

We Happy Few Delayed; New Female Character Revealed

Alright We Happy Few fans, it's good news and bad news time. The bad news is that the game has been delayed. The good news is that there is now a playable female character that you'll be able to play as. The game is now slated to be released this Summer for the PC, PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One. The delay seems to be the result of the game being expanded to include a full-length story campaign, three playable characters, and "more than 250 unique encounters." All of this seems to be...
