      Modders Fault?!? Do you really think we want to take this long to learn the horrible software the was supplied to us? There have been mods released already that did what you have suggested and all of them have flopped with the exception of one. It's not easy kid, go try one of the BF editor tutorials and give me a mod in 6 months. Everything we should have access to EA hard coded ...

        Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

        Being a Modder and a Gamer, i've got a fair view on this new game.

        As a Modder;
        The Mod i'm involved in is essentially a heavily modded science fiction mod. We aren't exactly devestated by 2142 confirmation. Being very selfish, we can see plenty of potential in 2142's engine that could enhance and evolve our initial idea and steer the mod in the direction we first intended. Having said that, i can understand how frustrating it must be for people involved in more realistic mods.

        2142 is essentially a heavily modded version of BF2, they basically began work on this game when all the mods started, as soon as BF2 came out. What that tells me is alot of the models/weapons/statics that the community have made, will be portable, they have the quality to stand up in this game. The only thing i'm slightly concerned about is whether or not they'll add in modding tools for the release. It's not like the huge jump from BF1942 to BF2 is it?

        As a Gamer;
        BF2 was the last EA game i've bought. I've grown tired of their support and general lack of care for their completed games. However, this will deffiantly NOT be the end of BF series. To say that is bluntly idiotic. When you move genre, you get new players in. Some players play the WW genre, some play modern combat games, some play sci-fi games. If anything, this will bring in yet MORE players into the BF series. Not less.

        I'm actually stoked they've decided to go into the sci-fi genre, i think it's what the BF series needed. To me the BF series was getting a little stale, the only thing i'm disappointed in is the announcement of still only 64 players. I would have thought they would have tried enhancing the code to add more players in.

        A Friendly Warning;
        What EVERYONE must understand is that you do not trust anything EA say, or for that matter anything a Developer says. At the end of the day, they may put in lots of neat little features, but most likely half of those will get scrapped in the last few weeks of development due to performance issues. The only thing we can really be certain of with BF2142 at this point is;

        -A sci-fi genre theme
        -64 player servers
        -Enhanced visuals and physics

        Everything else spoken about in various interviews/previews could well be up for the chop. So be careful on what all of your expectations are going to be, as the game may change a fair bit during pre production.

            Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

            Doesnt look like a spanking new engine does it?

            You will be buying maybe a slightlly enhanced refractor 2 engine with modded content.

            It will most likelly be, an expansion pack, sold as a full new game.

            Reckon quite a few major mods will be released before this, most likelly showcasing a better standard of work and better gameplay than the 'new' BF title.

            And you have got to question there modding support and look at there release schedule for the booster packs.

            They make the game difficult to modify, and when it looks like the mods are going towards release, they try to squeeze more money of you, and try to release content that they think the mods will have - beleiving players will stick with it, mainly due to the perpetual stats system.

            Hope QW has good mod support when it comes out - Hope it does the job well, and becomes the next big thing in this genre, and maybe even the developer may realise that support to mods, gives the games a bigger player base.

            Question.

            How big and how much longetivity would Half life had without CS?

            And what about BF1942 without DC?

            I know myself, if it wasnt for the lack of a comparable game in theis genre which i enjoy and the release of the mods, fingers crossed in the near future, my BF2 DVD would be sitting back in its box now, as i'm quite franklly getting bored to f*ck with the standard content, and feel that EA are screwing us (yeah they may only be 6quid) with the booster pack pish.

                Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

                As a side note. 2142 is NOT BF3. BF3 would have a completely redone engine, with huge enhancements in both gameplay, player amount and graphics. This is an expansion, a sequel, an evolution of BF2. So please call it by it's real name '2142' and not by 'bf3'

                BF3 would be alot better

                    The fight for survival takes place in the year 2142. Sweden’s biggest game developer Digital Illusions are in the process of developing a new title in the prized Battlefield-series: Battlefield 2142 for PC. The highly anticipated game is planned to be released globally during the autumn of 2006. Publisher is Electronic Arts.

                    In the middle of October 2005, Digital Illusions signed a deal about developing a new PC game in the shooter-genre which has now been given a name. The PC game Battlefield 2142 is built on the same technical platform as Battlefield 2 and is being developed at the company’s Stockholm office. The game is a free-standing product and is based on Digital Illusions own brand.

                    - Battlefield has long been synonymous with innovative and first class multiplayer action. Now we take the step into the future, says Marcus Nilsson, senior producer at Digital Illusions.

                    The story in the new product takes place in the future. In Battlefield 2142, players are forced to choose between two military superpowers in the deciding battle for survival. Year 2142, a new ice time has hit Earth and paralyzed large portions of the earth and the world powers are gathering their strength. Up to 64 players can face each other in two teams. With the player’s success, promotions and awards will follow in the form of new weapons, medals and much more.

                    Electronic Arts are publishing and distributing Battlefield 2142. The release date is planned to autumn of 2006.
                    Sorry it's just laughable. Still only upto 64 players? If they doubled it, or even increased it to 84 players, that would be a big selling point. Also the same old ranking system, medals and new unlocks, this sounds very familiar! I expect the ranking system will start from 0, don't expect your stat's to be transfered over, and it will probably be run by Gamespy, with all the problems that brings.

                    They really have shot themselves in the foot, because it is the same engine, we're all fully aware that it will have bugs on launch day. That's for sure. What we also know is that their customer support in the form of listening and patching games is dire, I won't buy this game to have to wait two months for a crucial patch. Or a hotfix which screws it up, then forces me to re-install.

                    There is no way I am buying this on release day like I did with BFV and BF2, SF and EF. I'm going to keep an open mind and watch the forums, see how man hundred complaint posts come in, then decide.

                      I personally like the sound of Battlefield 2142 and would of been willing to buy it just for the mechs . But i'm not willing to buy it when its going to be running on the BF2 engine game play wise BF2 is great but the bugs are horrendous and that's what lets BF2 down in a big way. And i personally am not willing to put up with that from another game only reason Ive put up with it from BF2 is i bought it the day it was released and the bugz were unknown to anyone (probably even to DICES crappy beta testers).

                        This sets everyone back to an even playing field again :) All the hard-core bf2'ers can all rejoice in getting rid of the noobs.. (Who don't stand a chance in bf2 these days.)

                              Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

                              I'm not even going to bother including some of the quoted comments I've read, but wow..just wow.

                              I knew there were idiots on this forum and community, but you're outdone yourselves.

                              If you could even conceptualize the purpose of business, half of you wouldn't be posting the idiotic comments you are posting. If you have any common sense in how a game is developed, marketed and released, most of you wouldn't be "afraid" of the mod scene.

                              Not everyone will want to buy BF2142, and that's OK with EA/DICE, the community and the modders. Get over it. The game has been in development since the beginning, and all this speculation on how Q:ET and other sub-par multiplayer games will blow away the competition is, once again, pure speculation.

                              Why not write something productive? Oh, is it because you've got nothing but childish and uneducated ranting in that mind of yours?

                              If you think Q:ET will be "better" than BF2 in how the game will run, play and compare, you've got to realize the fundemental differences. No other game other than MMORPG can support more than 64players simultaneously. If your system or network connection cannot support it, then why bother complaining?

                              The game is buggy on certain levels, and I agree that the game and patches were rushed. Comments like "this game will suck" and "fix BF2 before releasing another game" only proves one thing, the community seems more content with complaining than offering any form of support.

                              You've paid your money, and you've gotten what you paid for. The developers are still at work creating patches based on "imbalances" rather than bugs, and the community (not only this one) are the ones to blame.

                              Create a productive post, forming what are called sentences and paragraphs, and give off a productive comment on how "YOU" would be making or editing these games for the enjoyment of the community it obviously supports. If you can't, something simple like a point-form list of the problems you are experiencing is all that is needed without a rant such as:

                              a) argh, this game sucks and will suck forever (coming from a player with over 20000 points)

                              b) 2142 will be pwned by [insert game here] even though neither are released or have public BETA details about them

                              c) mach, stay informed in your posts, you don't make any sense calling us idiots

                              I hope some of you realize that as much as you may think your comments seem feasible, they are not looked at with credibility and the ones supporting your product will consider you nothing but a "kid" with "nothing good to say".

                              Help us out by saying something intelligent...for once.

                              PEACE

                              EDIT: For the record, I will be looking at playing a demo of BF2142 as previously stated, and a change of scenery will be good since I am finding BF2 rather boring now. I will still want/need to play modern warfare combat, and the mods coming out are doing just that: POE2, USI, etc etc.
