Well, lets wait and see, but my initial impressions on how EA is pumping out BF games is very negative.

Also, why didn't they call it BF3? BF2142 is a ridiculous thing to have to type, almost as bad as UT2007. Infact it is as bad.
My guess would be its for the same reason they didn't name BFv.....BF2. And that somewhere down the road after BF2142 they will actually release a real "BF3" complete with a brand new next gen engine.
Because we all know this BF2142 will not use a new engine but a modified BF2 engine.

And thats what they did with BFv I think. They used BF1942's engine and modified it for vietnam. So vietnam wasn't a true sequel either.

Well, as a Dev for Shattered Faith (sf.prolificgames.com), I can say is that we are not worried that much about 2142, infact it's helped motivate us to make sure we have something solid and concrete before it see's it's release

However the one thing that HAS worried at least me, is the overwhelming Hatred of the sci-fi genre and aliens lol.

Almost makes me feel like we have to pull off some kind of Modding miracle to win over some of you hardcore Realism fans.

Although to our advantage, we cover 3 periods in time, starting with todays technology (modern warfare), Close future technology (like 2010+), and Far off distant future technology, catering to those that want modern, those that wan't near future, and those that want far out future sci-fi.

All our stuff shows a Realistic progression of technology through out the time periods. The only thing you hardcore modern types would have to put up with is that instead of blasting MEC's youll be blasting an invading alien force, although I think with our new unique classes (like the Rhino-esque Terror Beast), we may be able to win you over, at least I hope so :)

We are determined to put out a First Rate mod (we are the same Team that worked on Galactic Conquest) but it will take time, 6 months isn't a viable time frame for quality work from a Total conversion perspective.

Oh and to add my two penneth as far as Being miffed with DICE/EA, My only Gripe is the fact that in countless interviews, it was always bandied around as a semi joke to our Galactic Conquest team before BF2 was released, and at the EA mod day that our project leader SZier attended, that (to paraphrase) "Unfortunatly we weren't able to add in support for Walkers"

when it's quite clear to me that, what was actually meant was:

"we are sorry but we haven't added the ability for MODs to use walkers, as we have planned a future game with mech's ourselves and we want to be the first to do it, sorry, k thx bye"

ahh well, we shall see how things turn out :)

Definitely looking forward to BF2142. I'm actually a little surprised about the Fall release. I imagine because it using an existing engine it didn't take long to put together, but still was a bit of a shock to me. EA must need some Holiday sales lol.

Your asking why they didn't call it BF3? that's because its not the third generation game engine. It's based on the same engine as BF2, the same thing whit BFV for BF42, it was the same engine, thats why they didn't call BFV for BF2.

The game after BF2142, using next generasions grafik engine will be called BF3.

                  I know, I know :)

I don't know why I said that, I think I was reffering more to silly names with multiple numbers in. A la UT2004/7, FIFA06/7.

I truly hope they do plan a proper sequel, Battlefield 3. But then, those of you saying that BF2142 is the logical step in the series, into the future, it's pretty certain BF3 would have to either come back to the present or, past.

                      Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

Well considering the huge Mechs being used and cloaking devices, I hope the game style changes a bit, to a more conquering a entire continent as oppose to just a small map.

If we thought the helos were tough on a small map, how about an agile Mech?

I might consider getting 2142 if the maps are on a lot larger scale. I played Planetside for years and might still go back hardcore for a bit for when I get into my futuristic mood again.

Right now BF2 is still buggy and as a leader of my clan we fight through it. But to come out with a whole other game without making this one the best it can be sounds a bit odd and somewhat disrespectful to your hardcore paying BF2 fans who has been tolerant and waiting for the corrections to be made.

On top of charging your fans for booster packs which have caused problems which could have simply been patched in, now your looking to divide a community which already has a tough time recruiting members to help pay for ranked server charges(i know i dont only speak for myself). I could have a good group of guys playing on a constant level, then boom a patch comes out that changes up style of game-play and then boom my roster shrinks and have to go on another recruiting binge and find players who like the new style or try and convince former guys to come back. Pretty frustrating when you have to take your game playing time to recruit and post in numerous forums.

New games are always going to be spawning up, thats not the problem. Deliverying an incomplete product and charging as if it was complete and then saying you'll patch the fixes later is pretty busted. Considering we are paying server dues to play a product which is incomplete, basically using our time and money to further test your incomplete product. Thats irritating.

Dont get me wrong I do love BF2 and the entire concept of teamwork and in-game coms, etc. Its just frustrating to see a game try to evolve quicker than its own good. Excuse the rant, I know its probably repetitive, but I fell better .

Some people complain about Sony charging $15 a month for Planetside, if you break it down EA is basically doing the same thing, yeah EA isnt charging us directly for server use but we still have to pay somebody, then on top of that booster paks(those that dont pay server costs arent the hardcore clan gamer Im refering to). EA as you can see paying isnt the issue, all the hardcore gamer wants is quality and quick bug fixes. Those are my thoughts. Thx totalBF2 for running a great website.

                      Flame away!

All this whining about a $50 game.. How many quality hours online does it take to justify the cost ? I feel the game payed for itself after about 150 hours online. I've had a blast playing it, so another $50 for a newer version is well worth it IMHO. Also, a lot of the people whining about the cost have systems that cost upward of what $3000 or more ?

Keep making new games, I'll keep buying them... Bugs and all, it's still the best :)

Hexadecimal, Kosmig, Kamandor and others are correct when they say that BF2142 is coming out way too soon. BF1942 had a three-year life-span and BF2should also. --Jeff in Houston, TX

If I wanted a sci-fi battlefieldish type game, I'll play SW Battlefront. For one, its got a better engine that wasn't done half ass.

Thats probably another source of this idea, EA saw Lucasarts' success with the Battlefront franchise and decided to make their own sci-fi FPS wargame.

                              Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

Preacher, I'm a fan of any game/mod that delivers original content, great gameplay and offers the chance to play as a team.

I don't think your team needs worry about the BF2142 game being released, as those like me will undoubtely download and play SF and have great fun. (it'll be free rather than have to spend $$$)

Considering the game will be running the existing BF2 engine, with the possibility in having "graphical tweaks and overhauls", as they did with BF Vietnam (think 1942 with grass), the mods will be a community driven process that won't die anytime soon, considering the amount of people that have purchased the game.

I think that your team and the other teams creating mods will excell in what BF2 has to offer, and prove that a modder can and most likely will create a better game. How do you think BF2 came into life in the first place? :) (1942; DC)

You cannot be distraught by the few idiots that can't express themselves in a proper manner, let alone voice their opinion with valid content. Take into account those that ARE interested in the prospect of a new game/mod being developed, and consider that to be your motivation.

The TotalBF2 crew can confirm the exact amount of registered members, but the amount of "active" members such as I are a rare breed. Most of the others, I imagine, just read and sift through what they find interesting and pertinent to their enjoyment. I have time to write in forums, but that does not mean that potential players aren't reading what you have to say.

Again, those that want to compare Q: ET to BF2, you've got another thing coming. There is no, I repeat NO other game that can offer the amount of gameplay that BF2 offers. Sure they can try, but so far only DICE and EA have released something productive and successful. You pay 50-70$ (depending on region) for a game and some of you have played over 200hrs...yet you complain that this game sucks, blah blah blah. Normally, when I play a game that sucks (in my opinion) I will not give it more than 1hour of my time. I will wait for a demo, if it doesn't please me, I don't buy it.

I for one don't intend on playing anything else for the PC in regards to online play...well, other than COD UO, but that's because the game still rocks! BF2142 and some upcoming BF2 mods will be my next "step" into online gaming!

                              PEACE

Please bring out the mods.. If I wanted a lame asss Mech game, I would go buy,you guessed it, A LAME ASS MECH GAME. How can EA be so ignorant? You can see that even in their last few offerings in the BF series, Infantry maps(hard hitting combat) are always the top rated and most heavily played. Peeps want good combat! It sells! Go make a MechAssault game.. thats cool, if I decide to play that, I'll buy it. Dont ruin the BF series with futuristic HORSE SHIITE! They already have those games you foooools!
