It's going to be a good game, and deep down you all know it.

For those not interested in the futuristic aspect of it, you may not like the idea of a "single player co-op feature" either. I like any new idea, and as always I will wait and play a demo before making my decision.

Until then, all this speculation that the game will suck is purely that, speculation. All we know is that it looks nice, as does BF2, and it will most-likely run better...

Anyhow, I for one will want to try before I buy, as with Quake ET. I just started playing Oblivion today, and Tetris DS, and Metroid Prime Hunters...so that should keep me busy.

BF needs a change, and whether the community wants it or not, it's still happening and I'm welcoming it with curious arms!

Actually what the community needs is Frank D to come back, and re-fix BF so it lasts 2 more years.

a) This is basically a mod of BF2, yet it will have a cost associated with it, big deal.

b) No one is forcing you to buy this or any other "booster pack"

c) The release of a NEW game does not effect the game you already purchased. People STILL play 1942....and that was out 3+ years ago.

d) A game company releasing..GASP...GAMES?!? WTFOMGBBQ!

a) Yes it is a big deal, and EA know it. The majority of gamers are not 'hardcore', do not visit forums and do not give the game they buy much more than a second thought after playing once or twice. Reality is, most of us have much more important things to concern ourselfs with, and if the game doesn't appeal, instantly, then that's the end of that. I want to spend my money on good games, so I compare and constructivly criticise games like this on forums, so that I spend my money wisely. So what you're saying is, "so what a game costs money, buy it anyway, sometimes it will be good, other times it will be bad", luck of the draw?

b) No you're right, this is why I am expressing my freedom by not buying it.

c) You're dead right here, I agree. But I think the point really is that more development time was needed on BF2, before it was released last year early (under pressure from EA), and now since numerous bugs are known to be in-game. The fact DICE Sweden are working on this project, when they could have focussed their efforts and patched BF2 to a high standard within the first few months of release is what gets me.

d) It is the manner in which they are releasing games that is frustrating and angering people.

This is a good post :) I don't want to be too hasty dimissing this game, but I want to air my concerns, and hopefully DICE are listening, but we all know that's wishful thinking that it will impact decision making in any way. I don't think BF needed a change, but change can be good, it's just the scenery I'm not fond of

I BROUGHT BATTLEFIELD 2 because i was drawn in by the action that Desert comabt , and point of existence brought....

this 2142 BS is not original. i do not know where EA is is going with this, except toward our wallet.

I'm sick of EA, they are blood-suckers. First you've got the, what I like to call awake community, these are the people that know whats going on and are sceptical about these sorts of things, then you've got the asleep community, the ones that just go along with everything "Woo hoo cant wait for another game!" and really just don't know what's going on.

Looking over the whole BF2 franchise it seems that EA have either planned this or have been very successfull in pulling it off, they must really HATE mod teams:

# Releasing BF2 WITHOUT the BF2Editor
# Finnaly releasing the BF2Editor (Quite late)
# Releasing expansion packs and booster packs to basically put mod teams out of business
# Announcing a sequel to the BF series called "BF2142" and hence forth destroying mod teams' motivation, well at least I know I would be distraught if I was working on a big mod, say PoE, EoD or FH2....


JOIN THE EFFORT TO BOYCOTT EA AND USE THIS SIG....

EDIT: And to those that include that "boycott" EA, support the modders??? Come on, seriously. Continue to mod for BF2, the game isn't going anywhere. BF1942 and BF Vietnam running POE are still running servers, and BF2 and our favorite mods will continue to grow. The community is like a groupthink, you belong to it and you are what gives it life and presence.

Boycotting EA/DICE will only lessen the chances of a mod being made, and you will be to blame.

One more quick thing to all of you who think the people in this topic are "complaining" about BF2142....:

It's not ABOUT us hating BF2142 (Although some of us do in this topic), it's that fact that EA promised the things listed for BF2142 in BF2, and are still patching the game again and again... and there are always bugs, yet they dare to even BEGIN production on another game... It's like trying to build another house when the first one hasn't got a roof!

i cant see me getting this. Hell at the mo all my hopes for BF2 post 1.2 patch reside with the mod community. I thought 1.12 was good and with tweaking it could be better. but the Hammer they used to tweak it sent it in the opposite direction to what i hoped for. I can see the same for 2142. it will come out. it will be ok. it will get patched untill its sponsored by Fisher price. then it will be the mod community that will save it. Problem being this time that they have a rival with a better engine, a better group of coders who listen to the community and sift thru what they say for those nuggets that make the game better for everyone not just slant it toward a quick sell now now now! and a very strong group of memebers from more than one community coming together. Next to that EA/Dice's efforts so far and therefore what you would expect in the future really look old and tired.

Get out the shot gun, load up 2 shells, clear a patch in the barn and say goodbye.

Does EA even read the consumer Forums, I mean we are all Beta testers, since they haven't even finished patching the HARK outta BF2. They really should read these posts.

And what the heck is gunna be in 2142 anyways. If I wanted the future I'd play Dawn of War, right?
