oh dont get me wrong i love bf2 and wont stop playing it even though it has its bugs but i think Quake Wars will wtfpwn bf2142 as EA/Dice look to be cutting too many corners to save cash.

Here's how I see it:
If they spend a good amount of time and effort on this, And make a good game, I'll buy.

Also, Do you realize this is the exact same scenario as battlefield 1942 and battlefield vietnam? Vietnam was good, And it added loads of new features. Many people loved BFV, Including me. The only difference is the time the games are set in. BFV is a redux of the BF1942 Engine. BF2142 will be a redux of the BF2 engine.

Personally, I think the people flaming EA right now are overreacting. If they started work on 2142 right after BF2, that means they used the engine as a base to make a totally new gameplay experience for the fanbase. If you read the PCGamer article scans posted on the 'net, You can see that they have a complete tactical system. Just like '2.

As for mod teams, BFV didn't stop people from making mods for BF1942, Like FH and Galactic conquest. Why would it stop BF2 mod teams?
I belong to the EOD team, And I officially say, Im going to keep working and make a great mod. If Icy Is leaving, (which I sincerly hope he doesnt) Then He will be one of the few that do leave. Most modders know they have to work hard, And eventually their hard work will pay off.

That's my say.

This new version of Battlefield is essentially what BFV was to 42. It's a glorified mod, and I'm nearly certain it will be the last Battlefield game, as this futuristic setting pretty much instantly wipes out about half of the player population, and as EA has bought out DICE, when DICE performs bad, they'll do what they did to Westwood.

This new BF game will flop. Honestly, can you think of the currently mayhem and retarded unbalanced, ****ed up, **** poor performance, constatnly needing patches happening 100 years in the future!!?! This game is like all the jokes people make about stuff they are kidding around and say they wish they had in a game, because its soo overpowering.

Cloaking? HELLLO!!!! Can you say Base raping?!!?!?

And how the **** do infantry stand a chance against a ****ign MECH?

Sweden’s biggest game developer Digital Illusions are in the process of developing a new title in the prized Battlefield-series: Battlefield 2142 for PC. The highly anticipated game is planned to be released globally during the autumn of 2006. Publisher is Electronic Arts.

In the middle of October 2005, Digital Illusions signed a deal about developing a new PC game in the shooter-genre which has now been given a name. The PC game Battlefield 2142 is built on the same technical platform as Battlefield 2 and is being developed at the company’s Stockholm office. The game is a free-standing product and is based on Digital Illusions own brand.

- Battlefield has long been synonymous with innovative and first class multiplayer action. Now we take the step into the future, says Marcus Nilsson, senior producer at Digital Illusions.

The story in the new product takes place in the future. In Battlefield 2142, players are forced to choose between two military superpowers in the deciding battle for survival. Year 2142, a new ice time has hit Earth and paralyzed large portions of the earth and the world powers are gathering their strength. Up to 64 players can face each other in two teams. With the player’s success, promotions and awards will follow in the form of new weapons, medals and much more.

Electronic Arts are publishing and distributing Battlefield 2142. The release date is planned to autumn of 2006.

yet another superly random decision by a white collar run-a-muck in some random office hoped up on too much coffee. i got an idea... let's take a broken car.. and make 10 of them... ooo and then make one that's a mech that can spawn rape ground troops like no others.. oh i can hear the complaints now.... 'hey! ... that's my mech! *pew pew pew* ~teamkill~' i was really hoping this was a joke, but apparently they want to dig themselves into the future and screw all remaining possiblities....

this is kinda like if they had made the x-men series correctly, talk about a story that could be turned into 100 movies and still sell, but no, like hollywood they just wanna make 3 and then call it quits to go make some dance dance revolution replica most likely.

What irks me is that many mod teams asked and asked and asked for bipedal vehicle support in BF1942 and BF2, they said it cant be done just give up. My question is this EA and DICE, why not say just wait a bit guys, keep your work in the wings and we will bring the goods to you. No instead you burn us like bugs under a magnifying glass so we run and hide when you do finally announce an engine that could have brought so many peoples dreams to life.

Wow I just watched the video. So thats what Betafield2 will look like when they finally finnish getting the bugs out. Too bad I will be 169 years old when this patch comes out.

I dont get this. Was there some major clammoring for mechs? does anyone think that in the future there will ever be mechs? it seems to me these are Transformers fanboy wetdreams. Such things just dont fit well into a franchise that has tried to be at least somewhat grounded in reality...they should leave such things to EF: Quake Wars and other types of games

I have bought every game and expansion pack in the BF franchise (for the PC) to date, usually with pre-orders. I just got Euro Force and plan on getting Armored Fury. But this BF2142 is the first product in the Battlefield franchise that I have very little to no interest in.

This game seems to be another 'interim' title like BF: Vietnam, and will be quickly forgotten just like that title.

The big question I have is...what can we expect for BF3. will it be Modern or back to WW2 or both maybe?? will it be a MMOFPS?

As you'll have guessed, this is a departure for the BF series as we're going into the future - something that a lot of you wanted to see happen in the BF universe.

never saw or heard that anywhere ...

We're developing this here in DICE Stockholm while the DICE Canada studio will be hard at work on a 1.3 update for Battlefield 2, as well as the Armoured Fury Booster Pack.

a game in the future is not a bad idea itself. maybe 10, 20 years - with cool reality based weaponry systems like networked battlefield and stuff ...

Seems to be Norwegian, and as you've already imagined, I do not and cannot read nor speak Norwegian.

Looks very "islandic" :)

It's Swedish, and means "We've been looking forward to Mine 2 and can safely say that we weren't let down".
