This is bad... DICE is/was a symbol for the swedish gaming- industry. So the reactions here are harsch.

Or what would you americans say if China made Coca-Cola or Cadillac a chinese brand and convert it into garbage?

I'd thank them for taking that junk known as Cadillac off our hands. I also prefer Pepsi over Coca Cola so they can have that as well.

Easiest way to fight back is to go full tilt into Mod support!!, Play only BF2 Mods, that way you get to enjoy the type of game you want, and it's Almost like the modders are Stealing the engine for the communities gains

No one will be playing any form of vanilla BF2 and since mods can't be officialy ranked servers will not have to pay EA the priviledge.

So it kind of makes you happy on all levels

Well, they'll most likely be "consolidated" in the next 6 months or so, and dissolved into the soul of the EA machine.

Oh well, they lasted for a fair amount of time. On to another game after this one, not that I would have bought BF3 anyways.

i havent got in the mod servers much because the mods are in a very early stage, as soon as they start to come out u will see the ranked servers getting empty.

The food chain is going well.

First- Trauma Studios which made DESERT COMBAT MOD for BF1942
Second- Digital Illusions bought Trauma Studios Then became DICE
Looks like we have a Third going.. A little history of BF2

First- DICE make Pinball Dreams - 1992
Second- DICE make a ****load of games for various publishers including EA.
Third- DICE make a series of Barbie games.......
Fourth- DICE make Battlefield 1942
Fifth- Trauma Studios make Desert Combat for BF1942
Sixth- DICE Canada makeBattleField VietNam
Seventh- DICE buys Trauma Studios
Eight- DICE make Battlefield 2
Ninth- Trauma Studios gets disbanded (damned shame if you ask me)
Tenth- EA buys a majority of DICEs stocks
Eleventh- EA offers to buy the rest of the stocks and DICE agrees. (good or bad, that remains to be seen)

Well that's about it. :p

Have any of you ever worked a job or had a profession that is not well understood by the public?

If so, have you ever had a thought that went along the lines of, "man, if these people only knew the truth... oh, well".

Speculation is great, but ripping on Dice or EA really isn't fair. No one here really knows what went down, so lets not demonize the same company that you have entrusted so many hours and weekends to :)

You're all going a bit overboard with this.

EA has been the major shareholder in DICE for a long time now, there is no difference in the decision making process between then and now, the only difference is a structure and name change.

You know what worries me?

That the game developer is people deveoping games that they would like to play and having the abilities without outside or suit influence of what they determine mass consumer appeal will be.

A worrying sign for me was when the franchise director of DICE reckoned that they should reduce the missile count on the helis...not the community, i cant remember any threads compaining about the missile count, please correct me if im wrong.

That sounds like suit influence to me, or perhaps he's had the misfortune to be in the gunner seat of pilots who dont play it how its meant to be played and not give the gunner a shot - sulky admin - oops yer kicked anyone?

This is whats worrying about the aquisition of DICE. Will they give you the game you want - or give you the game'they' think you want, and push it out to us suckers as not 100% finished products knowing we'll except forever patching.

I have enjoyed the work DICE has done since Codename Eagle and got the BF42 demos the days they were released. Played Bf42 manily with DC to death and played far too many hours of BF2.

For the work you have done DICE, I salute you. I hope you can influence your future developments with the passion you have for game developing without being steered or pushed in directions that would be detrrimental to your reputation.

In the meanwhile, you have given us a great game, to modify and develop new content. The quality of the mods being show cased is exceptional all through dedicated individuals and teams doing it in there spare time with the gamer in mind.

Again thanks for your hard work DICE in the meanwhile viva la mods.
