thank god you're pretty much on your own with that attitude. otherwise we had no mod scene at all. (my only hope for bf2 btw)

It's not about "understanding" business, it's whether you think it's ok or not. Moaning in public forums may not change much - an attitude like yours ("thats the way it is - get it") is just pain sad imho because it implies that such policy/behaviour is legitimate.

Ok just my two cents... its probably very good for the DICE guys. They will benifit from this yes... But give it 6-12 months and things will go sour.

        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Boring Dribble by me, you can skip this to the bottom of my post... its 2.30am and i cant sleep!
        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I formed a company with a few mates a couple years back, we ran fine for a while had a few great peices of software and business tools we sold. Things were wikkid... we built what we wanted and what managed to give every client exactly what they asked for, total customised solutions. Things couldnt have been better...

Any how, we picked up a client who we shall call "Client E". Now at first things went really well, and client E kept asking to buy into our company. We said 'hell no **** off'. This went on for several months untill suddenly we noticed we only had 1 client, Client E. Now, Client E paid their bills on time, and started to really push to buy into us. We kept sayin no no we wont go. They kept making larger and bigger offers till eventually we couldnt refuse.

There were 2 reasons we couldnt refuse... 1 the offers being made by client E were just too good to be true (think about this one). The 2nd is that some how with all the badgering from client E we lost track of all our other work and had ended up intertwined with their business to the point we would have collapsed if we didnt agree. We got cornered.

So we accepted... had a big party and the next 3 months were fantastic. Pay rises, fancy computers, huge offices and the works in fringe benifits.

The problem now... they owned us. COMPLETELY. We had no final say in any process of anything and once they had all our IP they started to break us down and tear the company apart, employee by employee untill the only people left were those who had no idea about the IP or how to use it.

I was the lead programmer and had developed the software from scratch, and was the 3rd to be fired. Not that i was 'fired'. I was cornered and given a choice, leave or be fired. Mainly cause i wouldnt bend over and take it the way they wanted to give it... I stuck my ground expecting things to end that way from the moment we merged. Now, 12 months on... the company is long gone and forgotton. The bigger company? Its still there... still touting our software as its own.

        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
End of boring dribble.... back to the interesting stuff
        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Anyways... that aside kinda looks like the same path DICE is heading down. I had a read of the artical on their site about the 'merger'... but found another intersting 2 articles along the way that kinda set the scene for the now impending 'hostile take over'.

        First go read this...

        then....

        and finally..

Doesnt that all seem to have a flow to it?

Now for just that added bit extra... why dont you check out all their press releases, seems this day has been coming for a long time and no one saw it. But hind sight is a great thing eh? Guess thats why they call it hind sight.

If DICE merges with EA i wouldn't be surprised. In fact, al ong time a go i thought they already were a subsidiary. And if they do merge, i don't think it will be a big problem.

Re: Death of DICE or uprising of a new empire?

according to a Gamespot article, this has been ongoing since 2003. EA only had 26% left to buy. So effectively it "has" already happened.

In any case, here's my opinions as a result.

            1. EA is known for shifting developers around to differernt projects as deadlines and needs demand. To me, this means DICE will no longer exist as DICE and EA just bought a fresh injection of talent and developers to throw at whatever project they want. It's business. IMO it's no big thing.

            2. BF2 may suffer or benefit depending on how corporate EA reacts. DICE stated in their press release that being finally bought out by EA meant it had access to EA's technology, tools etc. To me, this indicates that DICE may have been facing time and man-power limitations to code the numerous fixes needed for BF2. Theoretically, now being owned by EA, they will have access to a larger # of developers (see #1) and we may see an increase in the turnaround of patches and new content. HOWEVER, if EA is the money grabbing, poor support company that has been raked over the coals numerous times on these forums, we may see BF2 have a very loud and painful death.

The next 6 months should answer which way BF2 is headed. IMO myself, and other consumers should be wary about buying future products if EA does *not* show intent to correct the existing bugs/problems.

I know for sure we will never ever see a revolutionary game from dice again. Ea only wan't good sales numbers and pushes developers to finish a game to soon.
Pff, BF2 was a real bummer and I don't think I will buy a battlefield game next time.

R.I.P. the chance for a GOOD new Battlefield game. 2214, 2011, I dont care, cause I'm not buying it. I strongly disliked Vietnam, and hated Generals from the CnC line after EA bought them out.

Sigh, I may be rushing to conclusions, but that IS my right as a consumer.

You want my money EA? PROVE! PROVE that you make games with a damn.

They'll fix this game. Thats prolly one of the reason's DICE has waved its flag. DICE prolly cant keep up with the production they're doing. Which is fine but, yes. DICE is no more. Better for us who already purchased BF2? Yes, cause now we will have a patch that works. Did DICE sell out? Yes, they did. Is selling out bad? No, its not really. Will there every be another decent BF game? Prolly not, EA nerf's everything. BF1942 was it. When vietnam came out and didnt have CTF. I knew it was gonna blow in the long run. When BF2 came out and didnt have CTF. I knew it was gonna blow in the long run. Did you really think the idea for charging for new content was DICEs idea?! Did you really think the ranking system was DICEs idea? Granted EA was the reason the server ranking files were not released to the public. I remember the day EA annouced it was cause ppl where hacking the timelimit on the demo servers. Its funny the amount of control they have with something WE purchased for rectreation! But we dont have control to get a decent product. I couldnt careless I want a good game. Not this crap. Back to CS:S I go.
