It's not cheap putting upkeep on servers. U need to pay for cooling, storing, the servers themselve, the programming, the energy, and the people to look after them. So, in the long run, they most likely don't get that much from the server rentals...

They help out the mod teams more then other game companies. A lot don't even give out tools. We are lucky they spent their time and money to build those for us. You really can't do much other then that to help support them (well, atleast i can't think of anything).

The new content they come out with helps put new life into the game, bringing back people who liked the game, but just got bored, back for another couple of months. I slowed down playing BF2 A LOT bout after 2 months from release. then, since SF came out, I'm back to playing it almost every day agian. Stuff like this makes a game last longer and we should be happy about it.

So then why is EA maintaining a monopoly on ranked servers? EA could easily reduce those costs to nothing by simply letting admin/isp set up a ranked server on its own boxes. In fact this is exactly what happens in Australia except that admins/isps have to pay ludicrous licensing fees to have the right to setup a ranked server. So please stop trying to defend EA, they are one of the biggest publishers in the world, they have money falling out of their pockets left right and center.

Yeah, thats when the ranking runs into problems. If everyone could host one then they would F around with it so that they get bizzare scores (very high). This has become problems in some others game before (Americas Army... this has happened quite a few times). And even though u need to pay for a server on americas army for it to be ranked, they still run into these problems.

Stop complaining, they aren't the only company out there that does this type of thing. It is what is it. If you don't like it then go somewhere else.

Dont worry, im just using BF2 to pass time until Quake Wars and UT2007 are released, im more than happy to pay gaming companies that are prepared to support their online gaming communities :p

See, with SF, they used lighting/shadding ALOT... which slows your computer. It's not a bug. An easy way to fix this is to either A- turn down your settings to the lowest until you find a nice proforming speed or B- go out and buy a new GPU. Don't expect a patch to be able to do much with the "frame rate issue" as it's your own computers fault.

I have not once ran into any bugs during BF2-SF... I ran into MORE when i played BF2. Now, I don't think i've gotten a CTD since i started playing SF (which was my biggest issue with the game). And they did a good job! Most people who have played it for more then lets say 2 hours can't go back to normal BF2.... It just isn't as fast paced and the new maps (more the most part... *cough* Iron gator blows *cough* the maps either keep up or surpass the original's)

All's im really saying is use common sense. Lag isn't a bug, just look at the maps and you can tell that they need more computer power to run because the shadowing and that soidlers are usally in the same areas.

I only said that some maps have frame rate issues so don't go into a tirade about it's all my fault and that I should lower my settings. Some of the SF maps just runs perfectly fine while some don't ie. Warlord and Iron Gator(even though Iron Gater does really suck just nade, tear gas, and flashbang spamming) And I expect patches to do some optimizations on the map to at least improve frame rates for everyone. And Karkand has a crap load of people gather in the same area and I never lag! So obviously some maps just need some optimizations.

Here some of the SF bugs or issues that I don't like, Elevator bug, seriously those things are flawed! Those elevators are like CS ladders; just jerky as hell , when you get on the grappling hook and it faces you sideways for no reason(just annoying), shooting ziplines and then falling off the cliff or building because of some apparent recoil that's the most annoying of all because you have to get the zipline in the right height so you can actually get on, or you have to try to jump and hitch on. Why bother with the NVG Battery life, those damn things were meant to run for hours not minutes even though you mostly die before it runs out, but still why bother?. And another issue is there is no new anti-tank unlock which it sorely deserves I still don't get why the engineer gets the MP-7?

And I don't know about people playing SF and just staying. Some maps on BF2 are just better in my opinion, but I do like Devil's Perch a lot more now but Karkand is still number 1 to me.

And shouldn't they be working on patching up the game more, than making booster packs.....................?

Run into what problems exactly, I've been playing Americas Army and there's no bizarre scores cept for those ebay whores that gets a hold on a High Honor account. IF your talking about those specialized servers, IE Snipers Only then they have their own ranking system to count kills and such and usually they're not an Honor Server. And America's Army only counts points, it doesn't count kills or deaths, so I still don't get what your saying.

You don't, but it Was rare, ill admit, but the servers in americas army were release Very odd scores for people (like 99 kills...). You play americas army so you should know thats nearly imposiable as there is only 7 rounds with (with most servers) 16 people. This was a problem back bout 3 months ago and AAO-tracker had an article about it. They had to block these servers from the AAO-tracker until things were fixed

Some Servers have 21 round matches and people could get 99 kills if they were good enough, and if you play in the server long enough you can get 99 kills in 1 session not in the 7 round matches, and about those weird scores, 100 kills in 1 round nothing but lame hackers and they are getting banned 1 by 1

FINALLY! Someone whose smart around here!

Also, to those people who say that EA/DICE doesn't want these mods cuz people will get them instead of buying the expansion packs... U GUYS ARE MORONS! They know that if they get some big hit mods, that more people will have to BUY the vanilla BF2 in order to play it! You can relate this to many games. Mostly Half-Life. I bet you most of that game's life could be credited to having the counter strike mod, then having people go to their friends house, see it, play it, run out and get half-life and then go get the mod. I would call this a "Chain reaction".

Also, if people buy BF2 because they want to play one mod, they might start to like BF2 itself, therefore, they might go grab the booster/expansion packs.

My point here is, EA/DICE know that mods help a game out, thats why they support them. They aren't going to go too far out of their way but just say that we're lucky that they WANT mods, unlike some game companies which are totally agianst them.

I'll probably buy whatever costs money for BF2, but I want physical discs. I'd only download a booster if it cost $5. I'd pay more for a privately released Mod as a download than something from EA who can easily afford the production costs. They either have had the maps/weapons/vehicles all along and figure those of us with the capability to download further products are the only people willing to keep paying on this game, or they're just stupid. If 1 out of 10, a number I really have my doubts about, got their expansion pack online, and a percentage of them had a problem that wasn't BTK, a problem addressed by an official fix, what makes them think that this is a good idea?

Like I said, I'll buy them as long as they're at the store. I'm not about to burn my own official copy of a game expansion.
