    Two BF2 'Booster Packs' Announced

In a press release, Digital Illusions announced they're planning to release two 'booster packs' for Battlefield 2 in Spring 2006. They also let us know the online release of BF2: Special Forces was successful.
The Battlefield 2 expansion pack planned to be launched during spring 2006 is now replaced by two booster packs. The change means slightly lower project revenues during the fourth quarter 2005 than during the third, due to a lower development budget. The anticipation though is that this will be compensated by higher royalty revenues during the first six month 2006.

The expansion packs in the Battlefield series have new maps, vehicles and weapons. Each Battlefield booster pack will have new but fewer maps, vehicles and weapons. Instead they are sold to a lower price: 9.99 USD. An expansion pack is usually sold at between 19.90 USD and 29.90 USD. Today at least two Battlefield 2 booster packs are planned for spring 2006.

You don't have to buy them if you don't want to. I think we're damn lucky that so many people are making free mods and conversions. At least it lets those modders buid an impressive portfolio though. Different strokes for different folks. I'll chek out the boosters and see if they spark my fancy. If not, I won't buy them.

You have this very same ability too =P

Ummm you all do remember that some people who brought the expansion online had major problems installing it..

You all do remember the long loading time of the expansion..

So to end this rant of mine I'll just say Dice unless you put this in a store I won't even consider it.

As community total conversion mods draw closer and closer I have even less desire for newer purchasable addons. I didn't even buy SF. So likely the first big mod that comes out will squelch any urge for these official extras.
I'm sure I'll go back and still play the original, but by then my tier 1 unlocks will have a nostalgic feel to them that I may want to hold onto :P j/k

Lets hope most of the fixes are completed in the ORIGINAL game before it comes out. I bought Sf, don't play, don't like it for various reasons. Hope this one is better organised in terms of functionality.

They'll probably sell it mid-late next year is my guess, incase anyone is getting bored of the game, thats only if they've already started making it.

I'd prefer most mods over expansions though...

I began thinking about this.. What I don't get is how the maps, vehicles, weapons will tie into the original. If they only get integrated in the same way as SF did I don't see how they plan to sell many copies. Now if they throw the vehicles in the original and make it so only owners of the pack can drive them or something then they will sell well. If they don't, they will further split their fanbase; That seems counterproductive to me. They might not have thought that far ahead.

Now I'm interested in seeing how this will blow up.

You couldnt have said it any better.....Im not too familiar with which dice made the original bf2 and which one made the exp pack but the only way ill purchase either of those booster packs is if they are developed by the dice that made bf2. Whatever dice conjured up the expack and couldnt conjure up any beta testers wont be getting any money from me.

typical EA, I actually feel sorry for dice cause now the EA hammer is pounding on them to not just release a reasonable expansion but leave two large chunks out and then release as' booster packs' its a friggin joke

lemme guess, in these booster packs there will be more unlockable weapons, and of course (like SF) you can use them in Vanilla, forcing us to buy them. Take a leaf outta valves book, release new, free, content or 'booster packs' as you prefer. Oh I forgot! silly me its EA

The Ranking system and coding with Python has screwed over the modding community to make slow release than the commercial ones

But when a mod does become sucess. EA woos them with offer of financial and mod techical support, In return EA/Dice takes over the mods creative control and future.
Which means no more updates for us soldiers

You'd think all the upset children around here would be doing something better with their time then bitching about how they hate everything EA and Dice does to bf2.

                            More content = More fun
If you like don't like bf2 whats the point of complaining so often grow up

No one said you have to buy what they put out... If you do buy everything that someone tells you to then U, sir, are a tool. (you can't afford $9.99 american? Wow... your a cheap bastard...)

All you people complaining sicken me. I love to see more stuff for a game and to have the option to run out and grab more offical content. No one told you to buy it, and anyways, these game companies need money to produce games, fix bugs, and create extra content. Do you really think they could do it for free without loseing money? i know a lot of you will say the typical "EA wants more money". Well, NO ****! wth is a company suppost to do? Go "Ok! We'll just go give away things for free so we can go bankrupt!".

Stop complaining, you should all be happy that there's gonna be new content for you if you want it. Hey if mods can keep you happy, then go ahead and play them but stop complaining about content that you have to pay for... (personally, after I played SF, I can't go back...)
