Re: Two BF2 'Booster Packs' Announced

What you all seem to be forgetting is the fact that this, yet again, will fragment the BF2 community. SF has done this meaning less players in each game. The booster packs will mean that it will also be split again. How many times are they going to do this?

So we have say a 100 people buy BF2, 40 buy the SF expansion and play that.

We are then left with 60 BF players, 40 SF players.

EA release first booster packs and 30 of the BF2 players and 20 of the SF players buy it. Then we are left with this situation.

    30 BF2 players, 10 SF players, 50 BF2 Booster players

Then you get the next addon, and the playing grounds get diluted again and again.

Why dont they just hold a mapping competition, and then release the winning maps FREE to the community, this way would mean that everybody would get it. I know this isnt really good marketing sense, but at least everyone wouldnt think that EA was on a road to milking the BF2 community for everything that most other games give us in an update. The only freebie we have got off them since BF2's release is a dodgy update which we had to re-install for and Wake Island.....WOW!!!

Its 10 bucks. How many of you have tried to make a map? 1 good map alone is worth 10 bucks. Plus new things to kill peeps with. Im there all the way.

When I buy something with the Battlefield name, I buy it for access to the engine, basically. I don't particularly like vanilla Battlefield, for any of them. I don't like what they do with expansion/"booster" packs, because they add, they don't change.

What they should do, is try to sign deals with mods, to aid them(maybe helping them edit certain parts of the engine to accomplish certain things, hosting files on their servers, websites, etc), then charging a nominal fee(maybe 5 dollars) for the mod. Some goes to the mod team, and some goes to EA. Once you purchased the mod, you would be able to download updates for free, you would just need the serial for that mod. The catch-all is that EA wouldn't gain any creative control of the mod, it would be a cooperation.

But of course, they would never do something this helpful for the community. Its just not precedented.

It probably would have been better for EA/Dice to release these booster packs free to the community. If we get a lot of fresh new content, that means we could tell our friends about it and they'd be enticed to buy the game as well. However, by milking the community for all their worth route that EA/Dice have taken, they can stick those packs where the sun don't shine. Can't wait for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars to be released in 2006 so it will rape BF2 and EA/Dice.

What is wrong with you lot! Moaning, whinging, complaining, all the time! If you don't like it, don't buy it! Please do us all a favor, you'll only complain in the forums it's buggy when it's released anyway.

Milking the brand? Just like every other game developer? HL2:Aftermath? JointOps:Escalation? Call of Duty:United Offensive? For god sake it is standard practice. Would you prefer they release one game, then we wait two years untill BF3??

Who said anything about being an EA supporter? I support this great game, for all it's faults. Unfortunately, EA ended up as the publisher, which is a shame. Then again, nothing in this world is perfect, what can you do?

All I am saying is, to me, $10 for a "booster" pack is cheap. So I am more or less happy to buy it, after we see some media on it, and it is something I think I'll enjoy. You can do what you want, obviously, but what is the point of coming on these forums and saying you're not going to buy it? EA is ripping us off? Why? Do you feel like you're special or something? Not a follower of the trend?

Edit: Dammit Blackfox, you edited your post!

Well, if nobody complained...then what would we talk about in these forums?

Anywho...I think I give up arguing against expansion packs. I'll stick with the many excellent free mods.

Yep, well I don't blame you. Whenever Forgotten Hope 2 comes out, I am downloading it sharpish!

Who knows, these "booster" packs may be utter rubbish. Like most people here, I thought Special Forces looked extremly cool, with some great new features. So I bought it straight away. Mind you, if I had of gone by the comments on these boards I wouldn't of bought SF, or BF2 :)

As much as I'm loath to admit it, I suppose that's actually quite true. There are very few companies that release things for free nowadays, and EA isn't one of them.

I do think BF2 should get a few free maps released for it though, ahead of (and as a teaser for) the booster packs, since the total amount of maps released with the core game is still bloody weak, and more maps were promised when the game was released. The addition of Wake 2007 technically fulfilled that promise, but frankly I don't think very many are very satisfied with it, since it's a rehash of an already familiar map, and plays poorly to boot.

I'll buy the booster packs, make no mistake, being a BF2 consumer whore. But I'll grumble while doing so.

anyone else remember the good old days when you didnt have to pay for updates like this???

BF42 and Vietnam had a good deal of content patches...looks like EA is really putting the choke hold on DICE now:cry:

I think it was about 6 to 8 months ago that EA increased its sharehold from 20% to 50% in dice. I remember at the time some of the shareholders were trying to prevent this because they wanted dice to remain more independant.
