If they can properly implement it, go for it. If it will hog development time, drop it faster.... then.... something you drop in a fast fashion.

How about the ability to buy more powerful ammo for certain guns. Make it pricier, but also give it the ability to pierce the shield, maybe body armor depending on what gun, etc. The shield wouldnt be bad at all if there was something to equalize it. Also, some guns should already be able to shoot straight through the shield (ie awp, sg550, g3, m249) not because of realism "oh its only a shield, i know an ak could rip through that" but because it would make it more evened out.Comment

No. Its either change the wholeee fuckin game for something that half the players already hate, or just get rid of it. I say, give it the Boot, MikeJ speaks the truth!

he has it, exactly.
I'd like to make an intelligent argument against the shield here, hopefully.
I hate the shield. I think it is, was, and will be a stupid idea forever. It's one of those things where you take an idea from the real world and introduce it into a game that simply can't fairly accomodate it. In real life for example, Counter Terrorist teams usually have an extremely strong advantage and they usually have a base with a large squad set up so they can plan, look for entry points, gather intelligence etc. This is obviously too slow for a game, so we have the current setup of freezetime then run to spots, kill the other team, plant bomb, etc. All the shield does is slow the game down in totally unrealistic ways.
First off, real CT teams, assaulting a fixed position, don't usually use riot shields when they move out. They break windows, kick down doors, and flashbang the fuck out of people, taking down any bad guys who are blind AND deaf (the deaf part is something the CS team forgot about.) They don't use shields to move up near bad guys and say 'this guy is here that guy is there,' which is how the shield would work if there were any teamplay in a pub server. They don't do that because in real life, they have cameras and infrared sensors and all kinds of gizmos that give them a pretty good idea of where everyone is before they attack. That's one of the reasons they don't use shields. The other, is because they are heavy, slow, and if someone hits you with a grenade or with enough AP bullets, that shield is going to be pretty fucking useless now isn't it? In CS you throw your one grenade at a shielder, he doesnt die, even if he has no armor and it lands at his feet. Then you have the staredown for awhile because theres no way you can hurt him until he lowers the shield.
The reason the shield is cool to some people is because it's just iddqd in an online game. (doom god mode code baby, old school!) It's fun to a newbie to run around and not be able to get killed. But it adds nothing valuable to tactics, all it does is slow the game down. In the real world, there are just so many variables that lessen the shield's effectiveness... people could be hiding in a different building for days waiting for the attack to go off, someone could have a bomb that blows up the roof over the CT's heads, people could have RPGs or regular grenades that WILL kill a man with a riot shield. All we have in CS is staring at the guy until he moves the shield a few inches to the side and starts shooting with his USP.
I know all the hitbox issues will be addressed, and you will probably be able to do a few new things with the engine, and also, this will not be CS2 so we can forget about some of my personal crusades (making guns more accurate and recoil less random, making the jumping slowdown apply after the first jump, get rid of the idiotic awp delay, speed the game up some and make the game more based on skill and less on luck, less newbie-friendly) but if there's one thing that you can do to make the non-pub community happy, it's take out the shield for good.
A lot of the people on here who support the shield say "Just play on a server with it turned off!" This isn't an option for people who play in leagues. If you want to leave the shield in for pubbers, then by all means do it. But I'm begging you, make it a server cvar that's off by default so CAL won't allow it in league play, the way it currently is. (By the way, thank you for not fixing the glitches so CAL leaves it banned, it makes matches so much more fun.)
A very large and very vocal portion of the community simply doesn't pub anymore because it's not fun for us, playing the same game where we used to be able to dominate pubs simply because we were better, and now in 1.6, getting killed by some random guy running towards us spraying with a galil, or getting distracted by some guy running behind a shielder so the shielder moves his shield 2 inches to the right and kills us. The game has gotten less and less fun for the best members of the community, the people who play in CAL, so please listen to us for a change. Please get rid of the shield from CS:Source and please make CS2 fun for us again.HankPym wrote..
so your saying some random kid who plays in pubs, and will probably only play cs for a few months is better than someone in the cal-im/m/p/i or maybe even CPL level, that (if he was cpl level, or possibly cal-i) gets payed to play cs, and has been playing for years? you have it wrong. valve makes all these changes for the CAL/LEAGUE player. no one in pub servers looks at the radar, why do you think vavle changed it? they changed the awp delay (though not many people notice it) for the LEAGUE player, to make league play more interesting.
Congratulations on offending me, and causing me to dismiss your entire argument out of spite.
Stepping up and declaring your superiority is not a good way to win over a crowd.Comment
