    A Possible Pro-Mode?

UKTerrorist has yet another interesting column that builds on its collection of some insightful articles. In this particular read, it addresses and details with strong merits for the need of a possible "Pro-Mode" to be implemented for Counter-Strike, reminiscent to that of Quake 3. "Pro Mode", according to UKTerrorist, would include changes that cater to professional gamers. These include less random recoil, faster weapon switching, and many other factors.
Secondly, the "splitting of the community". Please. The community as it is now is not a seething united mass of gamers, it's not some highly organised like-minded hive. It is segregated by language, by country, by leagues, by skill levels, by forums and at the very heart of it by human nature. We just do not handle knowing groups of more than a hundred or so people at a time, and when we reach that size we tend to split off and form separate groups again.
Whether or not separating Counter-Strike between professionals and casual players with a "Pro Mode" seems like a truly wise venture in this day and age, you may check out what this article holds.

I can't believe this is even being considered, this has to be the most out of the box thinking around. I hope this never pulls through, if a pro-mode will be implemented it will segregate this game into three major sections, one being CS:CZ, one being CS 1.6 pub, one being CS 1.6 pro. Now, if my clan were running four servers, as they are right now, which will make a pub, pro and two privs. I truly, truly, TRULY, hope this never gets considered as a possible move for the CS community.

Face it, on paper it appears to be a good idea, if executed slightly improperly we'll have another game fall completely on its ass due to poor judgement.

i could see myself playing cs 2 years from now.... but at the current rate they are going to have mucked the game up with all the price changes, accuracy changes, damage changes etc. 1.6 was an improvement to start with, steam rocks, but i think Valve are now seeing the $ signs and realising they are not getting any money from this vast user base and are now going to try and milk it (LAN cafe licences etc.) for what its worth in the short term and kill it in the medium to long term. Lets face it, valve have no incentive to keep this CS going, HL2 is out (soon/maybe/years) and that will bring CS2 (maybe?) and the CS community (might) start again.

Part of the fun of CS (for me anyway) was starting playing absolutely awful (over 3 years ago now :x ) and seeing all these really good players and working my way up. Now I would class myself as a good player. It has been an experience. It is a poor game that any person can pick up first time and be pro at it already.

do not remove the skill aspect from CS!

Everyone who plays now and thinks they are hardcore will play pro. They will say "If you aren't playing pro, you are a newb." Others will play pro so they aren't called newbs.

Then you'll have "sv_pro 1" on any server with people playing and it wouldn't make any difference.

The article is also very short sighted.

Go for it. I'm tired of seeing league players come into pubs, own everyone and their mother and then complain about how everyone sucks. You don't see NBA teams going to the local court, kicking everyones ass and calling them "nubs". I think it'd be great if they implemented a pro mode. Then we'd(as in, the casual pub player) at least get less of the "if you're not in a clan/league you're a worthless POS" attitude that is getting more common. I know not all league players are like this, but I see too many that are. Damn ethugs.

I hate the idea. We already have the community split. (Counter-Strike 1.5, Counter-Strike 1.6 and Condition Zero) Why split it even more?
                * Removal of dead bodies - I don't want them sitting on a floor and I certainly don't want them floating through floors to the depths of the earth. What was wrong with bodies just disappearing?
But the thing is, no one gives a fuck what you think.
                * Variety of crosshair choices - let's face it, nobody likes the current one
Cry me a river, I like them just fine but I'm not everybody.

This guy just sounds like someone who wants to kill everyone in one shot and hop around the map. wtf?!

And he has to be a moron to call COD realistic.

Remove the jump slowdown and weapon switching time too? no way. Standardized server settings would screw up people hosting servers on residential broadband connections.

I think this person is thinking they can make valve change the game just by writing an article. I hope this isn't even considered.

This lesson has been learned before. When you add options either

A.The community splits. You anger players because everone is always trying to find the server with settings they like. CS already has this problem with post-release server side mods, they don't need to add more.

B.Everyone will have sv_pro or whatever set to 1. You will end up with every server on pro mode anyway.

Most "pro" modes just add tourney options. It would be like having a built in LO3, not changing core gameplay mechanics.

Some of the man's points are quite valid. There is no real reason to make the game 'newb-friendly' anymore, as most of the players ever likely to play cs, are already playing it. The slowdown after jump, even though i used to be in favor of it, is seriously slowing down the rate of gameplay and brings most matches down to long mexican standoffs.

Regarding the deagle and awp, i agree, bring them back to the point of sanity. Deagle shots are pretty much 50/50 with most of the clip being wasted due to recoil. Having an increased reload or some restriction on the awp, to bring it back to some level of skill required to use it would be awesome as well.

The Shield? don't like it, don't use it. Most of the time it will be a new player using it, or someone just goofing around. You know how to kill them, why whine about it?

Standardized server settings? I'm all for it. If Joe Somebody can't run his 24/7 iceworld server on his home connection, tough luck. Perhaps it will reduce the number of empty and useless servers.

Change of commands for zooming + silencer? A little confused about this one, anyone care to clarify who this would affect? (last i checked the colt didn't have a scope anymore ;P)

The Pro-Mode is nice on paper, but the community is being split with too many options as it is. Perhaps valve should release a low detail cz map pack so we can get rid of the whole cz-cs1.6 split and remove that argument entirely?

anyways, it's somewhat late. i might bring up some more points later.

I think its a godo idea except CS will be dead once cs 2 coems out.. They can implement pro mode then, except who knows if osm other hl2 mod superceeeds cs...

"These include less random recoil, faster weapon switching..."

That combined with the possibility of bunny hopping again.... sounds to me like this pro mode would be even more noob friendly than how it is now. Stop trying to fuck this game up ppl there arent many other good ones.

sum nice ideas dont agree with all of it tho. end of the day the community is as split as he says and if sum pppl want to play the game and have it less random then i say let them. it wud make cpl MUCH more fun to watch if it was faster

less random and a bit faster is more fun!

be gud to see some well thought out reason for y sum of the changes shudnt be made. ppl just sem to think itll change ALL cs everwyeehre
