Also I think something we all need to recognize is the fact that this was infact an independent article and I seriously doubt he has the backing of valve.

I think it's a stupid idea. The writer of this column has not thought of the most important aspect. To make it simple, here it goes:

      1. If HeatoN plays pro-mode, then the countless [OneManArmy]nOOb and 1337Skill0rz*Sir knumskull will also want to play the pro-mode, because their biggest dream is to be as good as heaton, and how could you do that without playing the same mode. This would cause the other mode to slowly die out and make everyone play the pro-mode in the end.

Wow an article like this really exposes idiots for what they are.

The author explains how the community is already segregated every which way and it's even highlighted in the CSN newspiece and still it's picked up on.

Change of commands for zooming + silencer? A little confused about this one, anyone care to clarify who this would affect? (last i checked the colt didn't have a scope anymore ;P)
This article was a pool of ideas from various UKT posters and regulars, which DoZ compiled and wrote this article; the silencer suggestion was mine.

The basic idea is for people like me who use both colt and awp regularly to be able to bind secondary mouse to "+zoom" and another key to "+silencer", so when using the colt I won't inadvertantly put my silencer on by accident when I press mouse2.

          I agree with that definitely.

Just make a new cvar called +zoom, and the secondary function cvar can stay the same.

Then I can bind mouse2 to "+zoom" and F to secondary function.

doesn't cl_corpsestay let you have the bodies disappear if you want them to? Default is now 600 seconds instead of 10 like it was before, no? Change it back to 10 seconds in your config file and you've got the old behaviour back, do you not?

Why make a pro mode when the servers could just use a few commands to suit the leagues? Bah, morons.

Theoretically, this idea works, but when it is applied to everyday life, it becomes utter chaos.

Some people really need to read the article properly rather than commenting just to see their name on screen.

This idea is not meant to appeal to every player.

It's meant to appeal to people who were playing back in beta, and are dissapointed at how slow-paced the game has become since 1.3.

There are several CS sites in the UK, and UKT is the one that caters for the players that play or have played CS at a high level, rather than the whole community. The large majority of us would like to see a return to the skill-based gameplay of earlier versions. At the moment these players are segregated from the rest of the community anyway.

They play on different servers for public, and don't play eachother in matches. A pro-mode would not segregate the community anymore than it is already. Ideally we would like to see the changes mentioned in pro-mode applied to the normal CS game, but most of us have accepted that Valve aren't going to do that. So we are pushing for a pro-mode.

Personally I have lost a lot of enthusiasm for CS since 1.4 came out. No fast walk, slow down on jumping, random luck based shooting, slower weapon switches have spoilt the game for me.

Back in 1.3 you could play a fast attacking game. Now it's all about hiding round corners and waiting for people to appear, crawling around at a snails pace. I watched a few old demos of top players from 1.3, the game then was unrecognisable, you could really appreciate the skill of good players. 5 man takedowns like HeatoN's vs 4K at CPL are no longer really possible in 1.6 because of the randomness of the guns.

Thing was it was more frustrating for noobs if they got owned every round, so Valve changed the game to give them more of a chance, by taking away the good players advantages (ie fast weapon switch) and making it more luck based (random spray recoil patterns) and slower (worse accuracy while moving, no fast walk).

This has changed the game for the worst at a high level, causing very slow paced matches that are boring to watch compared to the excitement of the NiP/X3/TAMM era.

I love it, would add a change of pace to gameplay that would probably show a resurgance in a lot of the older players. Theres really no reason to disagree with any of it, if you dont like it dont play it, if you do play it. See, its an option, you can either play it or not play it.

Whoever it was from the csnation staff that said it was an absurd out of the box suggestion, ????? If you wanna spend all of your time only doing what people are already doing, then have fun. As for the rest of us, we'll be enjoying the fruits of imagination and discovery, and in some cases, rebirth.

wow...some people are taking this possibility too seriously :/

segregation? Shmegregation!!!!! this game would survive it...no doubt about that!!! What ppl shoud be concerned about is an increase in egotistical internet gaming NERDS!!!! Now, this is something that can ruin a game. Promote competition? Maybe, yeah....well....NO!!!

As was mentioned in an earlier post, the noob comments would be directed at who's playin pro and who isn't. And to be honest, we have enough of that already. Players need to promote new players, in order to keep the game going...shunning them because of their noobness, will only turn them away. Just take a look at Total Annihilation's history...it was and still is the greatest RTS ever created...thousands of people used to play this game...now? no more than 100 ppl play it at any given time, all over the world. Why? Well I just told you why... :/

Essentially, this pro mode will be available to all, as there is no way to control the distribution of it. And if you don't want to kill this game...you don't want to promote an elitist and egotistical "race" of CS player.

Remember...it's just a VIDEO game, and it's supposed to be FUN!!! :P

Let's just pretend that this is even somewhat sensible for a second...

There would be too much trouble deciding who should be considered pro and who shouldn't, what changes should be made, etc.

The "pros" can play the same Counter-Strike that everyone else does. That's what they got good on and have played up until now. To call for a mode that is made only for "professionals" seems to be crossing the line.

To be frank, this is a stupid idea.

Horrific. The point of the leagues should be to find the best clans who are the best at counter-strike not the best at their own custom special elitist edition.

I honestly don't see the reason to have extra features for better players simply because they're better than regular players. They should be better players because they can excell at playing the same game as everyone else.
These include less random recoil, faster weapon switching
Less recoil? The skill should lie on the players ability to use those weapons better than other players, not some watered down pap like this. If anything, surely less recoil would be better for an amateur version of the game? Since it apparently means your aim is now much better.

I don't think this is a good idea at all. Less random recoil? All that stuff are skills learned from playing the game. As pros, you have to deal with it. Changing the game just for "pros" is ridiculous. It's not the same game then.

I'm not a Steam hater, I use it and have no problems. But wouldn't it be so much simpler if they just got rid of Steam altogether and gave us a complete final version of Counter-Strike using the good old Half-Life method. It should be CS 1.3 but with all the bugs and exploits fixed. After that Valve should just leave it and let the CS community get on with it. They're getting to a point where we are going to see endless changes in Counter-Strike eventually changing the game for a second time. CS was turned into a much more restricted, slow paced game when they introduced the jump slow down. They also made the recoil worse on most guns causing players to slow right down and simply slowing the game down altogether. Of course, this was all introduced into CS 1.4. Many, many veteran players left the community and now what you see is a new generation of players (basically n00bs) who think this is the norm. Sure, we still have a number of veteran players left but the excitement of the game isn't there no more. Those changes totaly changed CS as we knew it. If they continue with these endless changes the game is going to be changed once again.
