The article handles allot of the annoyances of recognized players (http://www.gamers.nu/?p=feature&f=255). They all think pro-mode would be a bad thing because they are afraid the community would split up (as in Q3). But on the other hand, Valve isn't going to make it, as they are too busy with useless bs like making the TMP stronger, while they still haven't done anything about the radar like they promised..

Personally, I would love to see a pro-mode. Publics have become far too frustrating. I remember the point where 1.4 came out and I was constantly being by people who play for 2 weeks. Skill and dedication should be rewarded..

As for the recoil: it has become far beyond a stage where it's still controlable. It's pure randomness to give newbies a chance.

How does that explain why good players are consistently good?

because first shots are still reasonably accurate and ultimately top players adapt to the playing style that wins. you are in denial if you cannot see the skill factor being reduce with time

doesnt mean that the game as is fun now as when it was faster

          Can't argue with that

I don't really agree with a lot of the comments. Some of them have nothing to do with a pro mode at all (like radar transparency? someone explain why this should be limited to the pro mode). The other comments would make the game worse (Less recoil? No thanks - by logic a pro mode should increase the recoil if anything)

A pro mode isn't necessary for valve to implement some of those ideas. Some of them are great ideas that should be added to the normal CS.

Like that HLTV idea. That's a brilliant idea, but why does it have to be specifically for a pro mode?

hahahaha, yeah, you learned the output of the random function that gets called as part of where your shot's trajectory ends up and can predict it's location every single time. Good one. It's not April 1st anymore. The fact is when v1.6 went final there was a great deal more randomness applied to every shot's trajectory. This is not just guesswork, or a *feeling* people have. This is easily proved by loading up Target_Range in v1.6 and in any version previous, and firing off the same weapon (M4, say) in the same manner aimed in the same place and comparing the screenshots of the glass grid at the end of a clip. In v1.5, whiled crouched and motionless, aiming at the stomach or lower chest, the M4 gave you about 6-7 shots that would easily hit an opponent without much trouble. Load up v1.6 and do the exact same thing, and you'll see that 3, 4 at max, shots are about all that would hit somebody. That's a big difference. Look at a whole clip's worth of auto-fire and you can see just how big the differences are. In v1.5 you even have a reasonable chance to control it well enough to hit people with most of the shots going full auto for the whole 30 round clip, if you're reasonably co-ordinated with your mouse. But in v1.6 the story is completely different, because the degree of randomness is just so much greater. No guessing. No placebo. All plainly visible evidence. Glass doesn't break if something doesn't hit it. So there's no 'bullet marks don't mean anything" BS involved either. If one of the pieces of the glass grid is broken it's because it was hit with your ammo. Snag it and test for yourself, rather than just assuming that nothing's changed, because you're just kidding yourself if you don't absolutely know for a fact. Especially when you're spouting off about it without actually testing it out for yourself.

I don't think this is a good idea at all. Less random recoil? All that stuff are skills learned from playing the game. As pros, you have to deal with it. Changing the game just for "pros" is ridiculous. It's not the same game then.

Horrific. The point of the leagues should be to find the best clans who are the best at counter-strike not the best at their own custom special elitist edition.
              Agreed.

We already have split community as is as long as WON stays up. Just the thought of a pro mode makes me sick.

Pro mode would be a nice idea, if developed right. It has to be specific to the wants of pros. (ie. NOT the author of that article)

I read the article and kept getting the impression that this author is not a very good cs player.

Pro mode should be developed by pros (cal-m+) not scrubs who would get destroyed in cal-o

Pro-mode would NOT segregate the community. How often do the better players pub? after cal-m+ it's mostly priv server scrimming/pugging.

Once you get good enough you are already segregated from the community

well if you have the pro mode, no ones going to play the regular mode, then there would be leagues for it and the horror goes on. it wouldn't work out

How about this: You make a mod similar to CS Classic with all of the pre-1.3 features that you want and release it? That way you don't split the community, and if there really is such a vast demand for the promode, then there will be no shortage of servers. Personally I started playing CS during beta 6.5, but I'm not a snob about the "good-old days." I enjoy a few rounds of CS-Classic every now and them, but overwhelmingly I am content with the game as it is now.

Yeah, who will want to play the regular mode if they make an pro? In fact I think that these changes this guy want will make the noob mode. Change the game to a quake like game. Why dont u go play UT?

CS is now a tactical game where jumping like a bunny will not bring u any benefit. And thats is like it should be.

If all guns loose randomness it will be a pain, enay one in leagues can aim very well; the only difference is that the good players understand and control the recoil intead of just cry for a "pro" mod tha have nothing pro on it.

OBS: The only thing I agree is to fix all bugs, then it will be perfect.

As much as I want to start calling that guy different things, I won't. Let's just say that most of his ideas are so bad, I was surprised I was actually reading it on a respectable site. It's like someone suggesting to remove all weapons but knife, and others thinking that's a good idea. I just can't believe it...

Most of the ideas he brought up are just plain stupid, although I do agree with some (namely reducing the randomness, fixing the radar transparency, and in general, fixing all the "bugs" with demo recording, HLTV, etc.).

Nevertheless, I happen to like the idea of a "Pro Mode", but the way that guy made it sound, I would never ever want it to even be considered. Someone else, please, write a better article.

Hell, why stop there. Why not release a pre-1.3 mode? So then we'd have: 1.6 pub mode, 1.6 pro mode, pre1.3 pub mode, pres1.3 pro mode.

Who plays on pubs with cal.cfg?

Just because cal.cfg isn't execed doesn't make everyone feel below the average, and the same will apply to this "Pro Mode", I believe.
