People are right, you will be playing 1.6Beta still. You have Steam Final but there was never any news about CS leaving Beta. You can still play CS1.5 for the next 2 weeks. Those of you with dial-ups should wait at least a week to install Steam so that the servers don't have as much stress on them, or even better find a friend with cable and get them to give you a CD with the full install on it. If you people would use some common sense you would get CS much faster, cause less strain on the servers, and have to ask less questions. By the way, if you want some GREAT mirrors with no lines for the full install go to www.filemirrors.com and search for steaminstall_cs.exe and right-click save as on one of the ones that is 388.53M. Just try a few of the links untill you find one that starts the download and has a good fast speed. This will get the cache files much faster then using the small Steam install and make this a much more enjoyable experience for you.
Man, that last tip really needs to be posted on the front page because there are about 20-25 mirrors on filemirrors.com. If you guys posted that on the front page the comments here would go down because less people would be having the exact same problems...
CS-Nation could also use someone to make a Steam FAQ, with answers to questions such as the LAN/Internet Connection problem, how this isn't how Steam normally is it is jsut that the servers are under extreme stress, and the million other questions that just about everyone has asked even though they have been answered already.Comment

most of you r freaking whiners...lay off of it...it makes me sick. more than half of these posts r in the lines of "steam sucks" "valve sucks" "steam is the devil". get a grip...its not the end of the world. this happened when the beta came out. stop complaining already. nothing works perfectly the first time.Comment

I'll be the first one to admit that we would have liked to have a much
smoother release.
We didn't release this to upset our users, and I hope that the past years of support we've provided backs that up.
We're working around the clock to make things work better.

reiterating a post i made late last night (page 21):
i just wanted to say, for all you skeptics out there (there are quite a lot of you obviously), steam will be a great thing. i know throughout these posts, many opinions have been regurgitated. the fact is, when steam was still in beta after the initial rampage to download everything at the same time (as we all are now), i had consistent updates of OVER 2MB/second...yes....thats MBs (on a cable modem). i believe the same will hold true once things begin to calm down. steam will indeed be what valve (and ourselves) hope and dream it to be. it will, however, take some time....time in which we need to stay patient.
yes, valve could have done this whole chaotic thing better....but its done now....lets ride the wave and help valve to make steam what we all want it to be.
if you feel otherwise, well....make your own damn game(s) then. in the least, for the love of all that is good in the world, stop bitching and moaning.
one other thing, ive seen a lot of questions posted here that are answered within this fine sites main steam info page. try THIS on for size before asking some of the 'simpler' questions. yes, you may have to READ something, but it could actually be worth your while....what a concept.Comment

if u dumbasses r still waiting 2 dl all the stuff from steam...go online and dl it through bittorrent. the more people dling the faster it will go, and even though itll take a couple of hours, you'll actually c sum signs of life from the program, unlike dling from steamComment

look i wouldn't mind if it was just an automatic updater - but why does it have to integrate with cs and change it and make the loading take ages and be buggy?
couldn't it have simply been an automatic update fetcher and kept the normal fast and non-buggy loading system?Comment
