i've gotten custom skins working but left-handed skins = right-handed in-game, right-handed skins = left-handed in-game. that can't be good

Your admin? Adminmod/AMX will have to update so they support steamids, if they don't already. To download 1.6 for free, try reading the news post instead of just posting a comment.

Well I'm glad you can play, but perhaps you wouldn't be saying "guys! steam isn't bad! it just needs some work..." if you were one of the MANY people who right now cannot play. You would think that after such a long beta Valve wouldn't have had these problems with Steam. Seeing how this release is so problematic, I fear for HL2...

strider, from what I found on the cs.net forums, it seems that this is still 1.6 BETA. When CS goes to 1.6 final version, Valve will supposedly open the cache files, allowing us to change weapon models and gun names.

Perhaps someone can help me here as I have 2 questions. I've had Steam since it was first released a few days ago and I'm a little lost.



1. What is the cache download for exactly?

2. I tried to find my Steam ID but there is no steam.log file in my steam folder. Where in the world are people finding it?



I first installed this thing and it work without a hitch and everything took 20 minutes tops. I'm just trying to figure these few things out. Also, when I typed status in console all I got was Steam 0.0.Pending or something to that effect.

I'm wondering, if I dled the cache file, does that mean I can't play the other games? Because I tried running Dod and TFC and I cant connect to anything.

There's now another version of the Steam installer which includes the CS 1.6 cache! I think it weighs about 360+MB. Get that if you have problems updating Steam. Would probably help!

Each cache contains all the files you need to play each game/mod. You will have to download them once when you install Steam, but they'll be permanently on your hard drive after that.



Each mod has its own separate cache which you will need to download. I'm also not sure if all the mods are up and running yet, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were still down due to all the bandwidth issues. Give it a few days and try when things have settled down a bit.
