Sounds as though you think its fair you should buy a game specificly because you have a wank comp, play it for a month, then have to upgrade to continue playing the same game.. not because it looks much better but because they want to distribute their software differently. I guess that must be an opinion based thing (I just think we're guiny pigs for HL2).



As for the traditional patch, well thank fek for that, coulda done so earlier when they made these "trade off" decisions... If they acnt support the numbers and knew htat, why even bother, I meen realy.



m8, I'm on ADSL but I do have a few m8s who are restricted to 56k and would pay more for a better conection, if only there exchange was enabled... and ISDN, is actualy pretty damn expensive here and not that much faster... And yes they would get the files anyway over other methods, CD fom a m8, a decent mirror, etc.



and using steam is a joke, its slow as.. it feels like I'm back on a 200mhz machine. 5 mins to load, 5 mins to bloody close.

i waited 'till like 0:30 am this morning (eastern), then decided "screw this" and went to bed... checked in the morning (i have a 1st period spare, so i can wake up late and still have time before going to school... it owns) and turned out it was already out.



thus my steamID is 33006. ;\

steam took forever to update even after it locked up and restarted. but steam is happy now :P



but my main question is:

Where are the Half-Life 2 movies at??



i remember that you could watch HL2 movies via Steam only but now where are they?



i only dl'ed steam mainly for the movies, hell who knows when 1.6 will come out.

Installer DL'd in no time, Steam finally finished updating itself after multiple freezes and "do-nothings" (which the last several updates have done as well) each of which required several CTL-ALT-DEL kicks in the ass to continue. It then successfully converted all the Half-Life and CS stuff to the Steam cache, but when I tried to join a low-ping game from the server list I got a "380+ minutes to go" progress bar. Screw that. I'll try again later.



Removing the bots was lame and the fake weapon names are (and have always been) just plain retarded.



UPDATE -- Steam now refuses to respond at all.



ANOTHER UPDATE -- Steam responding, server list updates, "Preparing to play Counter-Strike" window sits mockingly, doing absolutely nothing; occasionally shows up as "not responding" in Task Manager.



ANOTHER UPDATE STILL -- "Updating Counter-Strike" window bouncing between 77 and 80 minutes before I can play. What year is this again?



LAST UPDATE -- Now getting as far as the CS splash screen before Steam stops responding and HL has just performed an illegal operation and locked up my machine. If this is the future of game delivery we might as well all sign up with AOL and play Slingo.
