For the "Steam Network Down" error - just make a new account. It worked for me, when it wouldn't login to my beta account.

Now I'm converting to the cache. We'll see how that goes. =\
How did you get to the stage to make the new account though, as soon as i click on steam the network down erorr comes up. Thnks for the help.

Well.. IMO Steam is a ghey POS... and before anyone writes me off as a stupid kid, I think I have a good arguement.

First off, my m8 recently got CS and loves it, got the retail. He has 128 meg RAM, and now it apears Steam needs a min off 256... Don't bother saying RAM is cheap and to upgrade, we know but as students, money doesnt grow on tree's and why the fek should we anyways?

Second, say we need to reinstall - We gotta go d/l all this crap again.. Cant imagine what that must be like for 56kers.

Third, VALVE once again understemated how many people would get Steam.. Would it be that hard to have an old style patch we could apply to steam to update it, and have the option off getting ot off the steam servers too? Or is it too difficult to do sensible things?

I wonder how this traditional installer will work...a patch for standard CS to use the new steamid system and CS 1.6, or just the gcache files? My guess is the latter. Anyway, im off to bed.

THIS IS AN ALL CALL. Did steam work for anyone at all? I've talked to like five of my friends and it hasn't worked for them either. From the look of this message board it seems that steam didn't work for anyone.

I had that problem, answer is to delete or rename the file 'registry.blob' in the steam folder then restart steam, you then get to log in again.

if it fails again after that just restart it a third time.

Where the Hell do you people get off? I mean, seriously. You feel the need to bitch and spam about the stupidest things in these threads that nobody wants to hear about.....Steam takes a while to upgrade and use because so many people are trying to do so at the same time.....just calm down, be patient, and stop whining.

Honestly, do you know how dumb it looks, when you come to this site, and every Steam news item immediately has 200+ comments of NOTHING written all over it.....? Geez, get lives, people. Come on.

                      EDIT: And thank you, Street.

It's an excellent argument. However, in response to your question as to why you should upgrade your RAM, I would say because you have to if you want to play CS. It sounds as though you've heard the "RAM IS CHEAP" thing before but I will reiterate, RAM is cheap.

Secondly, maybe VALVe didn't underestimate the amount of people trying to download the packages but rather weighed their options on cost effective methods and which would better suit them and customers to reach a compromise. Seems to me that dishing out more money on bandwidth and servers won't help them in the least and would minimally help us.

As the update says, a traditional update is being constructed and even though it's hard to imagine a 56k'er trying to update right now, I can't really fathom them ever updating because files are ALWAYS big. Actually, I remember playing on a 56k like 2 years ago and all I can say is get a better connection. Cable and DSL is available in many places and even options beyond 56k almost everywhere. Sorry, $9 a month to spend half my day trying to download a site doesn't make sense to me. Spend the $35 on Cable and tell me when you feel you haven't gotten your money's worth.

Everything on steam has worked for me except that I can't play any games. If any of you know why I would really like to know. :) THX

Hehe...yeah, I could understand why some people might be frusterated. Honestly though, I've seen quite a few problems that don't have anything to do with network congestion.

Congestion? My steam is updating in less that 5 minutes. I don't know about you guy's but i'm not seeing any congestion. Steam is screwing up because these steam losers wrote a shitty program.
