Steam totally smashes that to pieces. The .exe updates worked fine for CS and HL, so why bother changing that?



I'm not saying Steam is a bad idea, for future games it may prove an excellent program but the CS and HL .exe updates worked so much better in my opinion than everyone having to download Steam, sign up and then download CS just to play a game that could have been updated by a patch (or two).

A little buggy but hyped program, it just doesn't feel finished



You all haven't seen the power that Steam can use, please don't be so impatient and wait a week or two. Go make a cup of tea, read a good (like Ender's Game, I hear it's a great read), exercise, spend more time studying, get a girlfriend, go out with your mates more..



Do something for a few days just to get your mind of Steam, Valve and all that jazz.

dood restart that shit..same thing happened to me..except im too impatient to wait fuckin even 5 mins..and then once it resytarted it was fine!!! except i still cant even get past this "Preparing to load counter-strike"

I had this problem, I came home from college, booted up Steam, left it on that screen, went to college came back and it was still the same.



A good ol End Program ctrl-alt-del style should force close Steam, then just reopen it, make it find those other mods and it should convert them properly. I took me about 30 minutes tops to convert everything, but I have like 3 gigs in my HL folder so it took a while.

well valve screwed the pooch on this one i gota say this is the biggest executive mistake since vietnam (joking, well maybe not lol) but i mean wtf did valve hope to accomplish sigh maybe they were pissed at ahckers so they decided to in a big fluury destroy the cs infastructure in front of our eyes.....oh shit

i downloaded steam, updated, converted, all of taht SHIT. when i try to play it just gets stuck on the Preparing to play Counter_strike box. FUCK IT! (help?)
