This is unreal - after wrestling with steam all day I finally get the CS GUI open.

From there I try to join a few server; then get some SteamID problem (assuming its an old server that hasnt been updated) then when I get through to one server it hangs on the verifying screen.

I dont see how these problems will disapear; Steam is now a big part of CS - and every time Steam goes down; CS cant be played - Stupid idea and concept Valve GG

      10) precache errors on conversion. We emailed valve on this one. If you don't want to wait, move your 1.5 and don't convert. However, you will have to download EVERYTHING.
      Um....

Converting Base Goldsrc Shared Binaries files into steam cache...complete

Converting Half-Life files into steam cache...complete

Converting Base Goldsrc Shared Content Localized files into steam cache...

haha beat this: CS here is updating/downloading at the enormous speed of 40 BITS per sec :) I have 0.5 MBit. They really should have learned by now to get more servers etc.

Edit: so they can actually handle the sudden traffic. This won't hold if they actually plan to release hl2 on Steam on Sep 30 as Doug said in the Wired interview.

Around how many MB (or GB) you have to download to do the full instalation, if you uninstall 1.5?

i gues those valve peeps didnt count on a couple million users updating steam at the same time and the say steam will be dl content and updates continuasly wonder how there ever gonna get that to work?

Steam has been in beta for quite long. By now they should have learned to count on that :)

look on the bright side... theoretically, this should only happen once... every update from now on will be easy.

This one may have been 10x worse.. but just think.. a few versions after cs2 comes out, it will have made up for it
