On the games menu, right click and select properties on all games highlighted other than CS. On each select 'do not update automatically' this speeds things up a little.

Why do I get Oleacc.Dll Error when I run steam. I installed a real client from CounterHack and I even downloaded oleacc.dll and put it in my System folder and the Steam folder and restarted. It still does not work. I have windows 98 first edition, I believe this is the problem because when I had se there was no troubles with installing Steam during the beta. Can anyone help me?Comment

Unfortunately, i don't think it can be helped. With all the bandwidth being used by people updating, the servers can't handle trying to play any games.
When i double click a CS server it displays a message saying "Steam will aquire all of the required content" then i clik ok and it freezes!!! So i can see servers but i cant play!!! arg Can anyone help me plz ?Comment

I probably agree with you on that point, i think that steam would have made a good system to play through. But they should have kept the updates separate.
Indeed. I don't remember saying I could do better, i just question the need to change to some stupid buggy update platform for no apparent reason.matt-118 wrote..
Well. It's up to you really. If you want to play as soon as possible then you should probably keep trying (but not too often). Otherwise, it should have calmed down a bit in a couple of days, if you don't mind waiting that is.
Thanks again Rabi person! So i gather i must be patient and wait a day or 2? Or should i keep trying? Says the update is 350mb but of course i cant download it cos it steam then freezes.Comment

I am hoping that this update will the worsed for causing chaos. Auto update is a good idea in theory as it cuts down on alot of overheads, allowing Valve to concentrate on improving the game itself. However, in practise, every time a new update is out it's going to choke the bandwidth, and there's no point upgrading to huge bandwidth just to cope with a few one off situations (it's not cost effective). So either stagger the updates (don't know how they would do this) or provide the updates in other places. sorry.. bit of a rant
Yea what was wrong with dwnloading updates from fileplanet etc? that worked great! Maybe Valve should not tell anyone they are making updates untill its actually finished and working. That way we avoid this nonsensical bs.Comment

yeah.. don't think your ID# will really matter that much. It's how you play that's important.
by the time i got to ausgamers (bypassed steam site) and got the file it was too lat toget a low ID
those fucking n00bs just had to shut down the site
oh well, in 2 months 32646 will be relatively 1337Comment
