Important Steam Information

Question - see if anyone knows the answer to this one...



I am installing Steam on my work machine today to register early with my cd key - when I install it later at home and enter the same key will it generate a new ID or will it see that I have an account already?

When you create your steam account with your HL cd key or whatever, say on the email address "joe@aol.com" you can then go home and download steam, and login with "joe@aol.com" with your password and it will be the same account and SteamID you already activated at work.

if you have HL or CS (or any other mods) installed so that it takes files from the hard drive rather than downloading them.



After HL and CS are copied over or downloaded into the new Steam directory, you should be able to safely delete the old installations and directories to save disk space and just keep the Steam versions.

So does this mean the new steam will not hook into the HL folder?

This is where my wickedGL is so I don't get 10 fps :/

^^ look at how slow that is loading, also, my current steam says its updating but then times out. So, maybe thats because it ended last night and we need to redownload it, and not just update it.



I hope i can get my noforceacc working, or im screwed, mx700 acc in CS is far too much.

Thanks Mike - I was pretty sure that was how it would work, but worried enough that I wanted to make sure.

From what I've gathered elsewhere, 1.6 won't be going final until a couple of weeks from now. But the above quote makes me wonder. I realize it doesn't say final, but it doesn't say beta either...guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Of course it's going to time out. The beta has ended. How many different ways can this be said? Just because the program runs doesn't mean you're going to get connected to a beta which has closed.



Steampowered is probably busy from all the other people who can't read spamming their forums.

Since alot of people want to DL this software, I'd like to host the file at my cs website and I'v mailed biz@steampowered.com, but I didn't get any answer. So I'd like to try my luck here.



Can I host the client file, without doing anything illegal?

Here's my comments on this whole deal:



1. New CS releases are always hectic. Shit gets bogged down and everybody bitches everytime. Idiots troll around passing their misinformation and negativity. Its been said before in this comments section. Wait for tomorrow and the truth will reveal itself...



2. I, personally, have enjoyed using Steam to play CS and TFC, and view the HL2 movies. I think its a great system and I think Valve is doing a good job catering to the community, even though their PR folks could have done a better job with the information flow.



3. Having to regenerate my banlist is going to suck. But then again if Steam is as dynamic as advertised and stops cheating the way it should, then I'm willing to give ppl a second chance. Re banning the assholes and jerk offs will be a pleasure...



4. All the LANs I attend regularly have an internet connection. But for those LANs that don't have internet connections, I'm sure Valve will come through with a fix. They always do.



5. Bugs aside, the riot shield isn't anything special. Learn to fight with it, and you'll know how to fight against it.



The only thing constant in this world is change....

there stands that you have to have a internet connection i you trow a lan party, how sick is that? I cant hold a lan without internet if i want to play counter-strike? That means that every lan without internet cant play hl and the mods.

just keep a separate copy of cs 1.5 for such occasions.

Three hours to go and I'm standing by. Observations and questions:



1) CS 1.6 is gonna own. New weapons = teh kewl. Smokes are better. Riot shield gives movable cover. Glock needed the power boost. Now it'll be interesting to see if 1.6 will actually be released right now, gg misinformation.



2) steampowered.com will be overrun. :/ Any other sources for the steam client? hang on -- I can't even connect to the site right now and the update hasn't even started!



3) So you need an email account to register? Damn, gotta go make another one..



4) If it's true that you'll need to be connected to the Internet to play single-player games IT FUCKING SUCKS, all kind of unnecessary net-awareness is just fuckheaded.



5) What files do you need to copy and then replace in order to use the old knife instead of the trout?

My steam isn't updating at all, and www.steampowered.com is SLOOOOW.

Complete disaster. Well done VALVe. I have stuck with you when everyone was complaining about the beta and etc. but this is sloppy VALVe.
