STEAM SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE FREE! (vith a valid CD key from a valve product)

but in addition to that freeness, you can purchase games and expansion packs (you are NOT FORCED TO, n00behs)

yeah with a valid key you can use make a steam account and use the steam features for the game like Friends, server finders, and patching, but i doupt you will be able to download and install a game from steam with just a key. The game will most likely have to be installed on your system already from the CD.

To download the games through steam you will have to buy them through Steam me thinks.

Why won't I buy HL2 in this case? Well HL already scares the fuck out of me... Just put me in a quiet location.. and pop and headcrab in my face... and I'm on the floor. Just being honest here, if CS2 supports mods, that's the way I'm going. :)
So if Half-Life does that to you, what would Doom 3 do? :-P

I do not see what the big fucking revelation is. Who here thought CS2 would be a free addon? TF2? If you answer yes then the only person you have to blame is yourself for being so fucking ignorant as to think a company that developes a large, popular product for a new franchise would give it away. CS was free because it started free, and if they had made it go completely pay they would have ended with a split community and less popularity. Now look at the community and youll have trouble finding many users that even remember much about CS before it went retail, even if they play it as a mod. Most of you probably play cs to the point it was worth well more then 50 bucks, so I do not see why the fuck your so annoyed you'll have to pay for it now. I doubt it will be at a full 50 and even if so, it isn't like that is a ripoff. If you played the fucking game for even 2 months you have gotten more gametime from CS then you would almost any other game.

Get off your fucking horses Valve doesn't owe you anything. That attitude is why more computer game companies are dabbling in the console scene.

It's sad that it takes 4 pages and still some of you haven't figured out that you can buy the game just like you did 5 years ago, and never have to pay another penny (including multiplayer and mods put out by the community). Valve is giving the community great games and giving great options for paying for those games. Stop getting your panties twisted for no reason other then your lack of understanding basic english.

BTW.. Pharlap had the funniest ban done to him I think I've ever read. Props to rza or whoever came up with that one.

does any1 actually prefer 1.6 to 1.5? I mean as far as gameplay i guess it spices 1.5 up a bit but i cant stand the gawdawful layout. And having to go through steam first just makes me sit on my ass longer than i want to :\

MikeJ wrote..For those of you concerned about the pay to play rumor, fear not! You can purchase the game normally as a boxed unit from a retailer or through Steam with a one time payment. This will allow you to enjoy the mods, multiplayer, and of course single-player content of Half-Life 2.
So, as a final question of my own stupidity, I might have read this wrong, but you're saying that if I buy the boxed unit from a retailer or thru the Steam program, I will get Mod Support, Multiplayer, and the Single Player game? IE: It doesn't matter where I get it from, I'm still getting the total package?

If I was going to use an Aug that looked like an Aug, this would be my model of choice. Very nicely put together, good quality all-around, and a nice variety of skins to round things out and match your particular preference.

That said, the Aug is one of the ugliest weapon designs I've ever come across (to my eyes, anyway) so I usually prefer something like a scoped M4 or LR300. That doesn't take away from the quality here, though, and this is as good as it gets with Augs — definitely worth trying out.
