So with Steam open for download for anyone on the web, that makes Counterstrike a free game for the time being. Or does Steam make sure you have 1.5 before it allows you to install CS? And if CS is free right now, what incentive do people have buying the game? The 1.6 beta runs just as well, if not better than 1.5, in my opinion.



Just curious, because you don't see companies that hold the rights to the largerst multiplayer game in the world giving their product out for free nowadays.

Nope - right now you can get CS for free. This will probably change once the final release comes out, as 1.6 was supposed to be a .exe update for CS, and 1.7 to be completely dependant on steam. Don't know where they are on this one now.

The shield is also cool because it makes cs_seige possible for the cts.

Last time I played Siege with the shield, T's never even got out into the daylight. They had no chance.

If they ever put a price on CS I think it'll die a slow death, because that's part of the reason CS is so big because it's such a great game that's free. I made the mistake of actually buying CS retail, cause I didn't know you could download the mod for free.



I think the price increase on the shield is good but I also agree that the shield should have some kind of breaking point.



1.6 really takes a toll on my video card (nVidia Riva 16 MB), cant play inferno or aztec because of all the new textures even on 640X480. So my res is real low just so 1.6 can play smooth.

I think its good that they are rebalancing the shield. It was getting a little out of hand if you ask me. There were some serious glitch cheats on public servers as well. Thanks Valve. You smell nice.

The shield was never meant for save rounds, thats where the Famas and Galil came in. They realized that the shield would be a much better alternative for the CTs on eco (which is shorter and easier to type than economy, and adding an h only lengthens the time therefore making it ridiculous and confusing for people to understand "where'd the H come from?" "oh its there for pronunciations sake", sorry buddy, pronunciation takes the backseat when it comes to shortening words for easier communcation; another point is that many people say ee-con-oh-mee instead of eh-con-oh-mee, its all preference) because to be honest.. the famas blows.



Sure, one could argue that its not the gunt hat sucks, its the player utilizing it, but for killing efficiency (damage) and accuracy, look far, far away from this gun. It pales in comparison to the colt and the galil basically puts it to shame. All it is is a slower p90 with less than 50% of the ammunition, recoil that is confusing to say the least, and a tad more damage (along with the ability for bullets to go through walls, at very minimal damage) not to mention that its bullet sounds are so wimpy that they make the glock sound like a lion. If taking off 100 dollars does that to a gun, wow. Wow. Burst fire setting shouldn't even be used in the same sentence as Famas, any skilled AK/Galil user, or even deagle user would destroy you before you got a second or third burst off (even if those 3 bullets hit).



Think I'm gonna go try it out some more though, I may be wrong about my above description of it because I've only used it about three times (I was so grossly annoyed and dumbfounded by how wrong it was, I dropped it for a shield instantaneously. Trust me, in weeks to come, if a Famas is sitting next to a shield on the ground, even the most newbiest of people will choose the shield over it anyday.)

I don't understand why ppl say the FAMAS blows - I've gotten tons of kills with it.

The Galil was created to counter the shield, however. So now that the shield is nerfed, I imagine that a Galil nerf is coming.

Famas is good for surprise kills. If you know someone is about to round a corner, it's fairly easy to down them with one burst fire shot and switch straight to auto for any more opponents that appear.

Same here, it's now my gun of preference when I'm a CT - but only on burst fire mode. It's excellent from a distance.

I think its referring to the video where theres a giant barricade in the middle of the street, with combine soldiers behind it, and freeman uses a grenade, and the 2 combine soldiers fly threw the air. It ends with the flying machine coming out from behind a building.

i think you just answered your own question. the term means to make something weaker/useless.



CTs? Forget CTs, its all about American Gladiators.



STORM, ICE, NITRO... man the legends will never die. (there's a nerf tie in too... remember when they have to run the guantlet while getting tennis balls shot at them and they have to shoot nerf type projectiles at the button? yeah... that was hot)

Seriously, anyone who thinks the famas is better than the galil is smoking some massive amounts of pipe. The galil is the best gun in 1.6, in my opinion, and you can get by just buying that plus armor, so you NEVER need to save. The famas is good for what it does; a saveround gap gun to buy second round if you win pistol to counter galil with NO ARMOR, but forget buying it later on in the game. This is what the galil needs to be, a gun that, while decent, is worse than the AK by a sizable amount. The famas needs to be the same price as the galil, and the burst needs to do what it should: eliminate the recoil on the gun. I fired 6 bursts one time with my crosshair on the target yet he didnt die.



Oh, the ricochet sounds in 1.6 suck. And the nades sound like crap. I like the new knife however, having played with it a bit.
