Steam Update 8/11

Erik Johnson over at the Steam Forums posted a thread about a new Steam patch which updates a number of mods including, you guessed it, Counter-Strike.



Of course the Counter-Strike update is most relevant and there are plenty of interesting changes. Something of note is the increase in the cost of the tactical shield; it now costs $2200 which will most definitely affect its use in eco league rounds. On top of that some changes to the bot AI have been made and as expected there are plenty of bug and exploit fixes. You can review the full changes/additions list by following this link.



Another thing Erik mentioned is a new Half-Life 2 movie "Barricade" will be released tonight so keep your eyes open.

If you had XP, and ran the update a few hours ago, this killed counterstrike for you. They've got it fixed now, so simply exit and restart Steam. Now, it's too bad they didn't take the opportunity to make the shield cost $16,001 when they had the chance, but I'm sure it's coming.



(Actually, if they fixed the shield glitch it's probably over-nerfed at $2200.)

barricade is the video with barney when freeman fights the combine soldiers and use cars as barricades ... is my educated guess



the steam forums were mighty busy when the new update crashed CS. it brought all the 12 year old whining morons out of the woodwork to inform VALVe of how much they suck :P

Oh, Valve does suck. They shouldn't have designed Steam as a single point of failure for the system. Long after Steam and 1.6 are out of Beta we'll still be having these little "outages" whenever someone makes a mistake in a minor update or the servers go down for whatever reason.
