Lessee...where to begin...
1.4...do I like it...sure. Is it basically the same as CS in the past...yes and no. The dynamic of the game has changed dramatically. Strategies now must totally be modified. This isn't an awful thing but it changes the game a bit. No more of the jump plant in Dust_2 so u can guard the bomb from the ramp. Things like that.
Broken down individually, here are the big changes to me:
Walking speed - In my opinion, it's WAY too slow. The old walk speed was fine. With the new speed, it takes too long to sneak around anywhere. There is less stealthing and more moronic rushing. Players who relied on stealth are the ones taking 1.4 the hardest. The change of the walking speed in 1.4 has turned the game into an almost pure rushing game. In a public server, this is fine, but this totally screws up the dynamic of tournament play. Don't like the new walk speed at all because it changes the total dynamic of play.
Jumping - To me, this is actually a minor change for the most part. Getting slowed down so dramatically takes some getting used to but overall, that's not the biggest change in jumping. Accuracy is. Jumping and shooting was a staple move of 1.3 star players. Now, I have seen some pretty amazing players get ruined by jump shooting. This is especially true for pistols. Again, I don't mind this one much. It only affects individual play, not teamplay. It is actually more realistic (tho personally, I think the slowdown after 1 jump shouldn't be so much) and that is fine.
Spectator Views - Very nice. Love the first person view. My only comments would be to be able to use the overhead in first person split and to allow for either fade to black or a locked spec cam. Hopefully someone will make an adjustment to an admin mod for that.
New Maps - Chateau...love it...great map...fast and deep...great textures, lotta access points...already one of my favorite maps. Havana...umm...what's the best way to describe this...a Maze? Yes, that's right folks...Havana is confusing as hell. It's built like a circle so people end up running around in the same spot all the time because areas look similar. Its design creates alot of havoc because it isn't anywhere near straightforward. The new Train...same as old train but brighter...nice, simple change...take that campers!
Bomb Planting/Defusal - Interesting change. It changes a few strategic things and makes both very difficult to pull off, especially defusal with someone shooting at u is now almost impossible. This is something I can deal with though. It's more realistic and I understand the change. Basically, planting/defusing has become more of a teamwork thing...someone HAS to cover now.
Dead Bodies - Not many peeps have mentioned this, but I gotta say, LOVE IT. It's a small change and it helps tremendously. Now you know who died where...even if you weren't looking at the radar at the time. Also, it adds some more realism...now...next step...make the bodies solid so you gotta jump over/on them :)
Radar - Like the new Dots on the radar for the Hosties and bomb...also the green BOMB on the scoreboard to identify the carrier is nice. One fault...Hostie dots can be difficult to identify...should change the color. Another fault...change the dots so they can be identified not only in area but in elevation.
Kevlar - Bout friggin time they made it so you only buy what u need instead of a whole new set.
Muting - Very nice...mute with a built in gag...weee. Now I don't have to listen to those annoying teenagers anymore.
Radio - Changing it so that opponents can't hear team calls...well...this is good. It allows people who don't have/use voicecomm to be effective again.
the Rest - The rest (kevlar sound, setinfo items, etc) is basically cosmetic and I don't care either way.
Overall, I like 1.4. Only change I'd deem necessary would be to revert to the old walk speed. It limits the game too much. The jumping/pistol accuracy...well, I can get used to that.
