Yeah, I saw that episode. My thoughts exactly! Taken directle from CS!....the riot shield is tight!
Did anyone see last weeks episode of 24??
In it, some CT's have to break into a room with a hostage and a gunman. The CT leading in has a Riot Shield and a pistol, possibly a USP (but not sure). So he leads in, then Keifer Sutherland jumps from behind him and subdues the gunman with a bean bag shotgun. All the CT's outside are wearing almost the same uniforms as in CS ( navy blue clothes with helmet, which team is that?) and all carrying MP5's.Comment

Above all, the majority of you are idiots. You need to shut up and be banned, and rizzuh needs to look into disabling registration during release periods like this. You cannot type for shit, and you have fuck all to say that a pullstring doll couldn't. You are wastes of bandwidth, not to mention air and skin. If you registered just for this "release", i do not want to hear anything from you other than a streaming audio file of you killing yourself. Shut your fucking pieholes.
The shield may have decent applications, so long as it continues to nullify AWP rounds. Watching my teammate creep up to some skilless AWP bitch (head-on, no less), deploying the shield every time the AWPer was about to fire until he got close enough to USP his candy ass was a grand, grand experience. That alone was worth putting it in. My opinion on the Galil and FAMAS will follow as soon as a game occurs in which 1.6 does not run like ass.
Yeah, ok. The rest. This is, in fact, well beyond the realm of "beta". I'm actually overlooking the typical "takes forever to get registered" crap. Even without that, 1.6 is in a state that is best described as inexcusable.
First up, STEAM runs on startup, regardless of if you wanted it to or not. See, most developers realize that not including such an option is FUCKING RETARDED. Valve apparently missed a whole slew of classes dealing with the issues of FUCKING RETARDED.
I have to wait to start up a LAN game on a map i've already played? Bullshit. That's called "stress testing" the PLAYERS, not the STEAM system.
All this time and with this new interface, i STILL have to wait while it takes way too long just to accept my gamma changes? Bullshit.
In accordance with Valve's "we must fuck up even the GOOD things somehow, in some small but really irritating way" rule, the simple ability to use the up and down keys to scroll through previously used console commands is not present. Only Valve could make typing "retry" more of a pain in the ass than it needs to be. Especially when connecting to a server is damned near impossible without it. Their server browser? Half-assed at best. License ASE from UDPSoft for shit's sake.
Also, the game itself manages to do what was previously thought to be impossible by running worse, caching god knows what IN GAME for 5 seconds at a time. It seems to really like doing this when there's someone trying to kill me in a sensitive close-range situation, AFTER the shooting has commenced. As if it has to check with steam to render each and every bullet fired. That's just really tubular. Even UT2k3 and its shithole "Wheee! Spikes! Everywhere!" maps make better use of resources than CS 1.6. But hey, if you're looking for a game that pushes your top-of-the-line system without any visible benefit, this beta is for YOU. While STEAM may have a thin excuse for being unoptimized, CS does not.
I'd also be more than pleased if someone could let me in on why 1.6 causes my video card to overheat in 15 minutes when 6+ hours of Natural Selection on a full 16 player server DOESN'T. I'd prefer it if the reason were something more than "Valve is fucking incompetent"; i already know that much.
The "leak" is a cheap excuse. We were hours away from getting the same craptastic offering. Bottom line? Valve can't do shit. This is the result of 6 months to work on the patch. I have doubts that anyone there could even make a Duke3D mod at this point.
More fuckups to follow as i inevitably find them in plain sight.Comment

Calm down Your letting people get to you way too much. Your constructive post mentions lots of things. What kind of video card do you have? I agree with the annoying steam startup. I disabled it manually. The requirement that your game starts over (reloads it) just to change some display settings is really annoying as you mentioned, most likely it will be done some other way in the final. You call this release in a state that is best described as inexcusable...sorry you couldn't find it as fun as I did...but rather than waste bandwidth as you mention in your post, send an email to valve about the bugs and maybe you won't be so mad anymore little johnny.Comment

Anyone else having problems with binding certain keys/getting netgraph to work? I use to have CAPSLOCK bound to walk, but now it does not work even if I use the config menu. Also, is there any way to get the netgraph back up? If you open a console, netgraph is an available command but it appears that it does not display anything.Comment

mouth writes well when he' pissed: a very good rant.
do the dedicated server "tickets" expire like the client's? half the time i join a server it dies in 10 min and is gone from the server list.
i think all the lag is from the all those super-high poly default weapon skins.
the galil's combat effectiveness is inversely proportional to the models appearance.
T's with shields and the darkness of 1.6 confuse the nubs.

I'm disappointed in a lot of things surrounding the release of Steam 2.0beta and CS 1.6beta. Most notably would be the revisionist history and finger-pointing being practiced by many of the parties involved. I'm particularly disappointed by the inference/rumor/story that the failure of the Steam 2.0beta/CS 1.6beta is the fault of an early leak of the client installer. If a Valve rep came out and said, "The leaked client was the wrong version and completely screwed us up," then it would make a little sense. I have not heard a reputable/dis-reputable source claim this though.
Everybody involved with the launch and its news coverage, (and I do mean everybody), just looks so amateurish right now. I sincerely hope for a smoother try soon and until then, 1.5 is still a blast to play.Comment
