I know when rizzuh is talking about "Xxon's CS site downlaod steam hear !" he probably means CS Central but let me please clear up some things.



I was at the movies when a newswriter of CS Central posted the news of CS 1.6 being released and the link came from the steam forums, I never published the steamclient I got from the playtest. I then send the url of the CSC mirror for the steam beta to Doug Lombardi and he posted it on the steampowered site, then I posted the link on CS Central because I was assumed if Doug posted it on steampowered.com it was free to publish on CS Central as well. Now I hear many people bitch we leaked the beta, we did not cause if it is posted on steampowered it is free to release for everyone imo. I am sorry though for the newswriter posting the link to anything prereleased.



Not defending myself with this but imagine it would have been posted on fileshack, csnation and cscentral at its current state, the mess would have been a lot bigger and worse so it has some good things about it, too.

The funny thing is that Steam Powered did release Steam 2.0. At Steampowered.com there was a link that said: "Download Steam 2.0 Here" (or something like that), that page linked to a page containing 4 to 5 links. They did not link to directly to the steam-installer but to fileshack.com etc... Steam was not to be found on those sites.



Then later in the evening, two new links appeared on that site. Linking directly to the installer on some pretty much unknown sites.



I call that official. :)

i like steam i think its pretty cool but i just cant seem to get cs to work i go to games after creating an account then double click on cs and steam just crashes..hmm i guess ill just wait and play it at my friends house or something

Here is my belief on all of this.



You paid 20 bucks for a game. 20 bucks. Valve is willing to MAINTAIN that game for NO additional fee to you. They're working on a system to prevent cheating more so than anything (Steam being able to push updates immediately). They're also, for a mere 30 grand a month, providing a DS3 for you to download this content from.



Ok, so let's add this up, they're paying developers at least 50 to 60 grand a year for their skills in UPDATING and EVEN CHANGING the game up so you don't get bored. THEN, providing you with a system that costs a mere 30 grand a month so that cheaters won't be so prevelant.



And all of you bitch because the BETA is not working smoothly? Might I say, pull your heads out of your asses. It cost me 20 bucks and I get the greatest game ever to be on the PC. Ya'll have too much time to be so damn inconsiderate.

ok right now i have 45 minutes to finish downloading cs and yes i do have dsl this is the second time ive actually made it to updating counter-strike the first time i finished downloading it and it gave me an error message saying "counter-strike is not available" even though i havent actulally played cs beta yet i agree with #244 i think you guys should stop complaining steam is the best

Hey, I had all these problems that you guys are describing but I did fix it. Here is how I manage to join games:



Start up 1.6 without joining a server (go to launch game under the my games list).



When you are on the screen with the new backdrop, hit ctrl-alt-delete, then go to processes, then hl.exe and right click it. Set priority to above normal or high. (this is how you do it on windows xp). Exit out of task manager, and click the cs bar on the toolbar, cs will pop back up.



Go to list server or whatever you do to see a list of games and click on a full one with under 100 ping (if possible). Then hit auto-retry and when someone leaves, you will connect. Nothing worked for me until i tried the above. For some reason, joining a partially full game never worked.

I start the game without joining.



I connect to a server, everything fine.



But when it disconnects on connecting KEEP TRYING and it will work (server will disconnect you 1 to 3 times sometimes more sometimes it doesnt disconnect you).

Can't wait for the final to be released. One bug I caught (wasn't really looking for bugs... this one was just obvious). For some reason, when I bought a riot shield, and then a DE, everytime I shot the DE, it reloaded. I tried switching to other guns, same result. But when I dropped all my weapons, picked up the gun first, then the shield, it fixed itself. Anyone else have that issue?

type -reload in the console or just press the reload key. This happens if you type +reload in the console, it is constantly trying to reload, so as soon as you fire one bullet it reloads, but just -reload to fix it. You must have been screwing around w/ console commands "+reload"
