>_< luft's and that other guy's article both miss some points (and coherency..heh)..just because people are up in arms about steam being beta doesn't mean that that's the reason why valve delayed release...as far as i've seen, the release delay was due to horrid bandwidth planning...and that 100mb of garbage we download each time is stress testing the network (even though we already know how much stress it can be put under)...they've mentioned that before on the steam forums or website (my memory sucks)...and on top of that, valve is encouraging those who have downloaded steam and are playing cs1.6 to give bug reports and feedback, meaning that the beta has started, be it official or not...so go find steam 2.0 and do what you have to do to play if that's your thing, otherwise, quit complaining (to save the sanity of everyone else X_x) and go play 1.5 or another mod of choice.

1.6 final will be released as a patch. 1.7 will be Steam only and it'll no doubt work just fine because of Valve fixing problems that came up with this 1.6 BETA Steam release...Comment

You guys are doing LuftWaffle a favor when you agree with this idiot. Can't you agree to say that most of the part is not Valve's fault at all and lies to those who leaked out? This is getting insane. Okay, maybe Valve wouldn't have handled well with the official BETA release if their bandwidth ran out by unofficial releases. But that's just a blind prediciton. The thing is that Valve would have been fully prepared for the worst when they actually released it to their website (Though I didn't understand the temporary link that acutally did pointed to the program) I really agree with rizzuh and he got most of the point.
Steam is a great program. Period. I used the previous version myself and there was nothing that I hated about it, apart from long loading times. I was a CS 1.4 Beta tester when it was released to the public, and I liked it. No comment that says negative to Steam will change the fact that Steam is a great program that has a bright future.Comment

Finally, a steam article that isn't already 10,000 comments long. I want to say (without getting banned) that I tried playing Half-Life on Steam (you remember, the single-player game?) and it was horrible. Every time I encountered a new sound, my computer would stop for about 5 seconds to download the sound. Think about that. Any new sound not encountered yet must be downloaded. And while it was downloading, the last couple seconds of sounds that were played were looped over and over again. It was really annoying.
Steam is not meant for single-player games that rely on new content all over the place. Repetitive round-based games are good (as they are download quickly, play forever) while single-player games are bad (as they are download different things as you go for 40 hours of gameplay).

I agree with some Luftwaffle's comments, but the last thing where he said that the guy stated that it was all a waste of time for nothing, Luftwaffle took it the wrong way. The guy was probably saying it was a waste of time to DL the Beta, not the enitre Steam Project in General.Comment

I don't get why people piss and moan when people let it be known that a program has bugs, be it a beta or not... I understand when people are bashing the program completely when there are a few bugs, ok yes "it's a beta," but most of the time, if a fault of anykind is brought up, hell has hit the fan, and sometimes the criticism is probably for people who maybe haven't downloaded the program yet, or something along those lines...UghComment

this is all very funny. Hmm... of course valve STOPPED the release of steam 2.0 beta AFTER they DID RELEASE IT as reported on THIS WEBSITE because their network couldn't handle the load. all of the sudden we have rizzuh equating the failed release to an alpha (in so many words). get your tongue out erics bung rizzuh... that's nasty. salad tossing is a terrible habit.Comment

Hmm I like this Steam thing its pretty damn cool, and its a great step forward in CS progression. Ok fair enough Steam is slow now but it will be sorted soon enough and everyone will get used to it just like the change from cs1.3 to cs1.4 with the 'jumping' issue.Comment

Way too many people judge what Steam will be based on a version of it that they aren't even supposed to have.
Thats bs, in my opinion. Steam released the official version on their own site, and then the servers went down because of overload. So, suddently they decides to withdraw it. Why hide that fact and blaim the community instead?Comment
