I must be seeing the worst of NS in my experiences. See, the server that I usually played CS on switched over to NS, and I and many others stuck around on the forums. I Tried NS before, and I hated it, but that's just me, it's a good idea, but I didn't like it at all the first time, so I'm not about to go back. Anyways, all the new people who play NS are constantly whining about people swearing at them over the mic, and people exploiting map glitches, and pretty much just bickering. It'd almost be funny if it weren't for the fact that I had to trade a good CS server for it.

Wow, maybe you misread, this is taking place in NS, not CS, and it is whining when it's someone just saying "f*ck" when they die, and it still gets reported.

I've been playing CS since beta 5. I don't like the CS noob types, but they are just as bad as the bitter CS elitists that think they are so cool because they played the game before the retail. Natural selection sucks... it's just a bad game. Period... the only thing that saves you from being a lamer, Trevelyan, is you said you play DoD. A real game.

FY_ICEWORLD is like smoking CRACK... you get that instant "HIGH" of playing the game without all the frills of having to worry about map objectives, with all of the fun of killing! It is the ultimate DM cuz you can hop on and play for an hour to fulfill your "CS addiction" for the day.



I personally wish that this map was around when I got started playing CS which was over 3 years ago, cuz it allows noobs to practice shooting and killing people with a quick learning curve... you die, you don't have to wait too long til the new round and start all over, practice what you did wrong, etc.



...and who cares if the noobs records are 10 and 90? At least they can hone their skills without waiting in a dust map for another 3 min between rounds.

THAT'S HOW I HAD TO LEARN AND IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET GOOD!



And for the purists who say iceworld is bad, lighten' up it's just a DM practice map for noobs, and a quick way to let off steam if you're good... I love going into iceworld and coming out 100 and 25.



As long as the noobs realize that map objectives and team play are just as important, then iceworld achieves what it was supposed to do.



Each map is good at 'honing a CS player's skills, like awp_map for whoring, aim_ak-colt for long range sniping w/ak or colt, deagle map for killing w/deagle, scout/knives for scout sniping, and iceworld is good for weapon control in close quarters and picking up/dropping weapons adjacent to you quickly... we all know that the bullets in your gun will run out way too quickly which forces you to look around for another weapon to pick up, it's kinda like watching a graceful ballet when it's done right... if you've seen it happen you know what i mean.



So for the advanced CS player, rush the other side and work on your weapons/close quarters skills, rush 4 opponents and see if you can kill them all with 2 weapons... I can say that those skills have helped me in the dark hall on dust2 a couple times when it was me vs. 3 opponents, and I killed em all.

don't know why people hate Fy_iceworld so much, I love it, whats better than fy_iceworld, Fy_iceworldx ofcourse.

fy_iceword maps are realy the only ones that allow u to use some of the weapons you would not normally use like TMP and Mac 10 u wouldn't use them in other maps like Italy unless ur lost or something, or ur realy bord.



I see alot of people shooting through the walls in Ff_iceworld esp with shotguns...bunch of lost cases, they rearly get anyone and usualy get shot from the other side.

wow, horrible article, no offense. you seem to be obsessed with jumping over that little wall... thats what half the article is. the other half is how sometimes your team gets killed and you are left to take out a large group of enemies, doesnt this happen on every map?

its so true, I have lots of friends like that, they dont even know how to play any other maps, and are like "is this map new?" when playing inferno or something. on another note Iceworld makes me sick, its a map with no skill involved, all you need is a good computer and decent ping and you can pwn all the people who have like 10 fps because of all their hi-poly modely lying around.

Iceworld is a GREAT map. It's one of the best out there in CS, I consider it one of the best. It is the base of what has now become a HUGE variety of aiming maps, run-and-gun maps. Okay, they have no objective, run, shoot, kill, next round, i'll give you that much. But, have you ever considered playing Iceworld all day for some practice? I mean seriously, grab some bots, grab some friends, or join a small game of Iceworld. Yeah, go into one of those " 24/7 ICEWORLD ONLY" servers, grab an AK and show off your skills. For those of you who don't consider yourselves godly CS players, PLAY ICEWORLD. Practice your aim, practice your tactics while under HEAVY fire. Learn to survive with your teammates. It's a great practice map. You don't need to go through the hassle of buying what you want, and running around a map until you find yourself in a nice spot, or running around finding the enemy. Iceworld is a straight-forward, practice your skills map, or it's a have some fun with admin mod and friends.



It's a great map. Play it. :-D

I spit on Iceworld, what a piece of turd. There are so many better maps out there. Custom maps where the creator spent months on. Beautiful maps with superior playability. And they are all gone to waste, because no one plays them. This is like a little boy who plays with the box instead of the model plane that comes with the box.

nah i dont think its worth a 10. Something strange going on as the model has a constant shadow cast on it making it look permantly dark. Most likely due to bad smoothing/compiling. Its also using Snarks model which also makes me deduct a point since Snark doesnt seem to get people to skin his models, he just hacks his meshes onto another models skin. Dont get me wrong, Snark is a good modeler, but hacking skins onto his models really ruins the whole feel imo (just check his AK47 to see what I mean)



all in all, its a decent replacement, but could use a bit touching up.



/EDIT actually no thats not how its meant to look, if you check it out in HLMV you will see that the model actually has a shade over it making the skin look dark. which is also probably why you think it looks bland

Um, I think it's just meant to be dark like that... Anyway, this is alright but there's better out there.



Modelling is pretty damn good, though I don't like the aimpoint, and the model overall feels a bit stumpy and squased in. I'm not quite sure what it is exactly, I just feel like it should be a tiny bit longer and a bit bigger overall. Anyway, overall the modelling is fine I guess.

The skin is okay, though the brush work is pretty blatant which detracts from it. Also the metal parts don't have enough contrast on them, so they don't look too great either. In fact the whole skin is kinda bland and boring. Still, it's okay I suppose (note: if you check the skin for either lens in HLMV, you'll see that the crosshair is wonky lol)

The animations are the usual stuff, thoguh thankfully now annoying origins with this one, and it's 'incorrectly mirrored' which I like since you get to see the ejection port in action.



Overall pretty good but a few niggles let it down. Don't write this one off totally but have a look at some of the other SG552's in the archives first.
